We are staying at the shores of panama and have two little ones we plan on taking trick or treating. They are 18 months and 4 years. Please PM me if anyone wants to get together so a bunch of kiddos can all go out togethers. Don

I'm definitely in for the swim.  Helps me keep calm on race morning.

I arrive in PCB on Tuesday afternoon late.  Haven't rented a car yet.  I lucked out last year and my bike case just fit in the trunk with the back seat down.

September's totals:
Bike:36h 06m 42s  - 526.57 Mi
Run:17h 52m 14s  - 96.7 Mi
Swim:5h 35m 30s  - 18501.61 Yd
Strength:5h 48m

This month was kind of light - especially in the swim department.  Perhaps I should get in the pool.  Last week was tough, I pretty much screwed up my previous recovery week, and paid for it last week.  I just need to get back in the saddle.  Lots of time left eh?

Anyone else freak out this morning when they turned the calendar page to October?  Right there on the same page, peaking out at the end, is IMFL!

I should go ride my bike now.  or something.

I would like to do the swim.  I get in Thursday AM.

I can't decide if I should have a recovery week this week and train hard the next 2 weeks with a 2 week taper.  Or train hard the next 2 weeks with a long gradual taper 3 week taper.  Thought anyone?

I vote option ! because 3 weeks is a long frigging time to taper!!!  ALso if you re feeling a bit tired rightnow, and who isn't the following 2 weeks after a recovery week you will feel great

I will get in on weds.

Ok it time to think about BT swims!!

Traditionally we have met on the boardwalk at 8am thursday and friday.  Whacha think?

I would love to get in the ocean before the race--yes, I'm on the seacoast, but we're talking Atlantic here   And a group would make me feel more comfortable!

I am definitely down for a swim. That was one of my best memories from Lake Placid, the BT Swim.

I really can't give you a great answer with just that info. But without asking you a million questions I will assume a few things. You have been training moderately for several months, you have a good base, you are a bit tired from all the training but not exhausted, you have done several long rides and long runs, you are "almost" getting adequate sleep and you have a few 70.3 races under your belt. Depending on how hard you have been hitting it for the last 5 or 6 days I would take a full day off and then hit it HARD for a week. If your not that tired hit it hard now for a few days, rest a day and then hit it again. Personally I prefer a peak and then a very gradual decrease in volume over 3 or even 4 weeks. Everybody is different so trust your body.

I may be up for the kids trick or treat also. My wife is going to wait to see how my daughter is doing in school before she takes her out of school for 3 days. They may come down on Friday so I will let y'all know as time gets closer. I also will have 5 training partners down with me that are doing the race. We will definitely be up for cruising the course and shooting the bull. Two of them are members of his post, I'll warn you know thee are slow ; )

Rough patch. Ankle bruise. Looks like I have to bag a few runs. Substituting some biking - and a little worried about the run at this point.

My wife and I were just talking about the trick or treating scenario. The one thing I do know is that you don't want peewee anywhere around your kids and trick or treating. He'll eat all of their candy.

I am up for a swim but probably not until Friday morning.  We are driving to from NC to Navarre (near Pensacola) so my daughter can trick or treat with her cousins on Halloween.  After a quick visit with the brother-in-law, we will head over to PCB on Thursday morning but highly doubt I will get there in time for an AM swim Thursday.

Arriving Wednesday and absolutely in for a few swims. I need it. I'm starting to freak out about this swim. To the IMFL veterans...any advice for the "non swimmer" IM? I just did Augusta in 33 minutes but I know that was all current.

1-Take a deep breath
2-Play in the water when you get there.  A lot is about simply being comfortable enogh in the water that you can concentrate on SWIMMING
3-Forget about sea creatures they won't bother you
4-Swim the course and pick out landmarks on shore to aim for
5-Get tinted goggles.  Across the top of the swim on race day the sun will be DIRECTLY in your face and clear goggles will not cut it
6-Play in the water some more
7-There is a huge draft factor in an IM swim and its FUN

Ill be arriving Wednesday afternoon and hope to make the swim on Thursday.

I actually had a bit of a trail running accident on Sunday and gashed my shin up pretty good. Though I dont think anything is broken, I am black and blue like you wouldnt believe. Going to try and test some running today, but honestly I am not feeling too optimistic about it.

Just to add to this, after doing an ocean swim on site last month, I went out and bought some polarized, tinted lenses. Those have really helped to cut back on the glare of the sun, and glare in the water. You can definitely see better with something like that.
