Yes, trying something new...running faster!!! I can't see me doing that run/walk thing again unless it's in a full IM and then only walking aid stations. It just wasn't for me. It did make for a faster recovery though. That made me smile! Me too! Love THAT strategy! |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Tripopo - 2012-01-17 10:49 AM Thanks for all the well wishes y'all rock! How long is recommended for running shoes? I've been wearing the pair I ave since August and by the end of the race they were feeling a bit thin, it felt like I could feel every crack in the road or is that just usual foot soreness during a race? You should at least get 375ish all the way up to 700-800. The higher miles if you have a more efficient stride. 500 seems to be the rule of thumb, though. There are a lot of variables including your weight and the type of shoe. If it is a racing flat, it will be on the lower end for sure. |

Often it's not my feet that feel it, but rather my knee might hurt or my back before I sense pain in my feet. Now rather than wait for discomfort I just buy new shoes and it works pretty well. Thanks for all the well wishes y'all rock!
Had planned to start my HIM training today but still a bit chafed so will see how it goes on the bike today, was going to stretch a 12 week plan to a 14 so I can delay if I need to. I'm still enjoying the accomplishment so I want to get that positive energy right into the HIM training to get me into the groove. How long is recommended for running shoes? Congrats on your race. I read your report and it seemed like you really enjoyed it too! That is SO GREAT!! And, yes - get some new shoes. Have a great HIM training start when you're recovered. I think you're going to swing right into that groove. |

Veteran 158 Golden, CO | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED kgore - 2012-01-16 8:06 PM Sounds like you are enjoying your mini vacay...which movies are you seeing? Have FUN!!!As for me--I did a 25 mile bike followed by a 3/4 mile run---basically 2 hours...yesterday. I t felt great, with no residual pain today (always a good thing.). Today was my rest day, but as I have few actual FULL days off from work and school left, I NEEDED to go birdwatching (another passion I have). Clint and I hightailed it about 75 miles out of Sacramento to Willows at the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge--There were a good amount of birds there--I got to see a few bald eagles (always cool), and tons of ducks and other birds of prey. We also did their wetland walking tour (the rest is a 6 mile car tour)--so we walked for about 40 minutes. On our way home we stopped by one of the local Indian Casinos, where we lost about $30...Thankfully, Clint won $80 in blackjack, but it didn't cover the last $30 we had spent. It was a nice break though. Tomorrow I have a workout (I think its a spin bike workout--something about using only one leg for power???), but after that we're hitting the nearby movie theater--Tuesdays are $5 movie day! We're planning on 3 movies....Yeah, we ARE party animals on our vacation! |

Seems kinda like a quiet day around here. Got off the easy hour trainer ride and got my sweat on, so now just stuff around the house. I know, I know, truth be told you guys might be better off without me on occasion ... but you know how I like to worry and how I hate to miss the Manatee Partee! Enjoy your back-down week. Those are sometimes the hardest, though! |

X2 Sounds like you've got the shoe discussion figured out. All I would add, that is once you buy new shoes (and where they heLL are you finding $55 shoes?) that you log them in your training log everytime you run in them and then you'll be able to track how many miles you have on them. It's below the running info when you enter your run for the day. I've been using it and it seems helpful, as well as my back telling me it's time. |

This one...not so much...lots and lots of build up with a couple sorta graphic bits every here and there, and SHAKY CAMERA!!!! (I HATE HATE HATE shaky camera--I will literally turn off shows and movies that don't have stable camera work....I'm telling you, it was basically Blair Witch Project 2012! Ug. On the bright side, we only wasted $5 on it...We SO should have gone to Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, or The Muppets. On the bright side, I got my training in (yay me), got the house ( well the cat room anyway) cleaned up and prepared for the cat we are adopting on Thursday.... Tomorrow, we're taking a trip to the Bay Area to look at a Natural History Museum and then hike around the Marin Headlands--should be fun! |
