bradleyd3 - 2012-12-13 7:54 AM Going to surprise the 6 year old for lunch today.....I love to see her face when she's waiting in the lunch line and we walk in with McDonalds.

You're a great dad.

Actually we walk in with McDonalds for us....and make her eat a ham and cheese. I know that while she's crying on the outside, she see's the humor on the inside.

Roadhouse

You can't Roadhouse a little girl!!!

Bull S#!t you can't. You can Roadhouse anyone who deserves it. Another comment like that and you might get a Roadhouse! Even though you may not feel you deserve one.

also...there are lots of middle aged moms where i work and they have all been wearing ugly christmas sweaters this month...and not in an ironic way.

please god don't ever let me become that.

Snerk.  My cappuccino is gone and I want more.  How much is too much espresso???

There is no such thing as too much espresso!!!

Just so you know Meh I am a middle aged mom and I own NO christmas sweaters! I also do not have the cutsie little chritmas earrings and the little dinging snowmen broaches or and of that other frightful paraphernalia.

x2 ....and I'm beyond middle aged. I've NEVER had any if that crap.

How do you know when you are middle aged??

When people start treating you differently JUST based on your age and not much else, when you have a harder time finding a job (cuz ya know they are doing the math and see you're close to 50), when you are dating and men your age have very "odd" sometimes old fashioned ideas of what a women should be/do .. I have found, for me, that it isn't ME feeling older, or middle aged, or old .. it's the way others perceive you.  Some folks still subscribe to a "way you should act, dress, etc" when you are a "certain age".  I hate them all!

I would completely agree. At age 85, my grandmother said that inside she still felt like the same old 16-year old girl she'd always felt like.

Morning TAN!

Can BT guys meet y'all in South Beach?  I need me some warm sunshine!!

Ok, so there's no way I can get there before the New Year, but that's beside the point

That reminds me of the best line from that movie Act of Valor:

LT Rorke: Before my father died, he said the worst thing about growing old was that other men stopped seeing you as dangerous. I've always remembered that, how being dangerous was sacred, a badge of honor. You live your life by a code, an ethos. Every man does. It's your shoreline. It's what guides you home. And trust me, you're always trying to get home.

i'm not even close to middle aged and i've been told plenty of what i'm supposed to be and do.  i just do not belong in this society...reason number a billion i'm over the whole church thing.

I have t-shirts and sweaters and jackets from when I was in high school.  I was ~50 lbs lighter at the time so they've gone from the baggy-grunge-look to actually fitting me.

So Tony, Don't worry, you aren't strange if you have clothes from when you were 20.

I know I have socks that I got when I was 18...  That's a little strange no?

How do you know when you are middle aged??

One thing is that you become invisible.

When I was about 34, I filled in as a lecturer for a professor at UT while he was off at a conference.  It was the first time I had been back on a college campus since I graduated.  I was a beautiful spring day so I walked around campus.  I was feeling like a college kid again.  But there was something different.  At first I couldn't put my finger on it.  Then I realized.  I was invisible.  You know how when you meet someone on the sidewalk they either meet your eyes or they avert their eyes.  Either way your presence is acknowledged.  On that day, I realized that the true college kids did not do either they just looked right past me on the sidewalk like I was invisible.  It was a revelation.  At 34, I was already middle aged.

cool story, bro.

but to be fair, i've never seen a picture of a wedding dress from the 80s that wasn't hideous, at least you didn't pay too much for it.

At times I WISH I had gone into the store and asked for whatever was the absolute cheapest thing they had.  In less than a year I've had 3 different dresses (yes, I realize this was MY choice) the least expensive of which was a $300 cocktail length white dress for the ceremony in London that never happened.  Ugh.

As Meh said... ALL dresses from 20 years ago were terrible, and at least you didn't spend a carpload on it!

Exactly ... I had some monster puff sleeved thing.  The 80's were a rough time for fashion.  Funny thing is I went to Bakers (remember that cheap shoe store) and bought some white pumps for $15.99.   My entire wedding ring set .. engagement ring and band was only $500 and it was still custom made to what I wanted.  We were saving to buy a house and saw no point in spending tons of money on things neither of us cared about.  Frugal we were!

Sorry the questions begs to be asked- why would you try this dress on today ?

I also am part of the cheap wedding dress clan.  When my ex and I got married, i really did not want the big ordeal.  450 people later......ugh.  I was suck-in to having a weeding that cost us 35K.  My mom and dad had passed, so we mostly paid for everything.

The day I went shopping for a dress, I found one that was absolutely beautiful and it was beautiful BUT it was $3500.  Everyone was there to see it and  did the whole crying thing that I never got?!? I could not justify a 3500 dresses for a 12 hour day!!!  The next weekend I walked into david's bridal alone and they had a $99 sale.  I picked-up one dress, tried it on and walked out with the dress that day, no alterations needed at ALL.
