Do you think they will only have one flavor?  I just assumed they would have all 3.  You may not get to select which one you want, but why wouldn't they offer all 3 at various points along the course.  Do other IM only have one flavor?

Speaking of the Ohio and sewer overruns, I thought this article from The Onion was hilarious and rather timely: http://onion.com/90l5XM (warning: NSFW, crude language)

102 with heat index of 115 here in Central Arkansas... On one hand, heat training is good. On the other, 115 is dangerous. Lots of fluids today. Lots and lots.

Should be interesting.

Heat is starting to arrive in California as well.

Feeling good; I'll get to see how running in the heat goes this weekend.  No real humidity though.

With as hot as it has been so far this summer, is anyone willing to make a prediction for the temperature at IMKY? Looking back at past years it is either blistering hot or pleasant/cool.

My own bet is on blistering, but I keep hoping for cooler temperatures.

With the switch to PowerBar nobody really knows.  Normally it's one flavor on the bike and a different flavor on the run.  It might be a nightmare for the volunteers to try and get you the right flavor of drink.

It would be nice to know the flavor though.

I thought it was typically lemon on bike orange on run (at least that it was I read in previous athletes guides.)

Have you already bought your 4 from the website? Are they $30 each for the dinner and banquet? When I first read it I thought it was $30 to attend both but on Active.com it has them listed separately.

According to the race website, aid stations are every 10 miles on the bike and every 1 mile on the run.

Ginger, I will hurt some White Castle!  Back from the 100 mile ride and 8 5.4 mile run.  Ride went very well.  Lessons learned today:

1.  Pace was same as last week, a little faster but I rode 2740 ft of climbing vs last weeks 2000, and felt more comfortable
2.  Carbo Prop does not work as well for me as INFINIT therefore
3.  A BRICK 8 mile run will turn into a 5.4 run due to sever calf cramps from or perhaps poor fueling, and or severe heat, and or lack of run training and or maybe all 3?  or worse, and unknon variable?  I know I didn't like to Carbo Pro and I vered from it and drank less
4.  I went through 4 fuel belt bottles of Gatoraid w/i the first 4 miles and started looking for a neighbor water flowers...doesn't anyone use the waterhose anymore?

Summary, I can ride this baby, not fast but no worries, and I'll be that guy walk/ running the last 10 miles..it is what it is

Good work dude. I did a 56 mi bike/6 mi run brick today. I hit the bike pretty hard and just suffered through the run. I've been pretty pleased with carbo pro, but based on all the rave reviews I've decided to try infinit. Today I used the last of my carbo pro, which means that next week's 100 miler will give me a chance to put the infinit to the test.

BTW, thanks for convincing me to take the training wheels off today...It was supposed to rain here today and I was planning to ride on the trainer and then run on the treadmill...that was until I saw your exchange with Destroyer. I decided to venture out and take my chances with the weather, and as it turned out we didn't get a drop of rain and I had a great brick.

Long run tomorrow, and hopefully I can get a couple of "bonus" hours on the bike in sunday afternoon heat.

Harold, did you use the unflavored CarboPro or the CarboPro 1200?

Hi everyone.  Had a few setbacks this week.  My foot/ankle had been bothering me, so the doc decided I needed to get an MRI.  good news is that its not broken and no tendon damage is present, but I do have bursitis and swelling. Soooooo, no running for a week, and limited mileage at that.  No 20 milers in this body.  ah yes, marathon walking here I come.

Then my ear started hurting Thursday, and really hurt Friday am. I decided to go to the doc to make sure it wasn't an infection before I swam, and even though I always swim in earplugs, I have an ear infection. No swimming for a week. ARGH!

Eh, it happens.

BTW, at my only other IM experience, participants didn't pay for the banquet. Do we have to pay for our tickets? I need one besides myself.  Thanks if you know...

Sorry to hear about the injury setbacks, keep your head up.  Nothing wrong with the run/walk marathon in an Ironman.  I have had conference calls, email messages and lunch dates with Ironman finishers, and without fail they ALL ran/walked.

Are any of you on this thread doing the July 31st swim bike organized by Bob on Iamtri?

To all of you guys racing IM Lou: I have been lurking and reading your posts religiously as I am going to try to sign up for IM Lou 2011. I just want you to know that you guys are AWESOME and soooo INPIRING!!!

I remember being a third year Med student and HATING my life, just getting by day-to-day and then I ran into this undergrad who was trying to get into med school and he was so excited to speak to me about it and I realized how cool my life actually was.

I am the undergrad to your med school here!

You guys ROCK and are where I want to (hopefully will) be in a year! Do not loose heart, keep strong, push through the injuries (but rest them like your should!) and realize just how cool what you are doing is! You are almost all Ironman's (some of you for the 2nd, 3rd, etc time)!

Fight the good fight and keep on keeping on!!!
