Member 52 Lehigh Valley | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Seems like everyone has trained, as best they could, and is getting ready for the race. I am excited about race day approaching, due to a fractured femor after the Escape from Alcatraz, I am merely attempting to finish this year, gone are my goals of sub 5:30, I just want to finish. I saw some earlier posts about rides race morning, I am staying in Laconia on Sullivan Way, looks to be right off of Rt 11/3. Is there anyone that might have room for 1 more and also may be near or traveling past this on Sunday? I am willing to share in any fuel costs, or maybe throw in some gels to entice someone to pick me up I hope to see you all at the finish line. |

Veteran 254 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread dsmallacomb - 2010-08-15 4:27 PM The weather is going to be GREAT for the race!! However, if thunderstorms where on there way at the start of the race what would happen? Please tell me they do not change the swim to a run? If so, how long of a run? We don't need to concern ourselves with this because the weather will be perfect. Thanks for all the tips and the don't forget ideas!!! I did a 40 mile bike ride today and finished right before the rain started! One week from today..... I can tell you when there were thunderstorms and bad lightening for Mooseman earlier this year, they just canceled the swim and had a shortened bike, this was the international distance though. I believe the HIM went off without the storms the next day. -Andy |

Veteran 351 Bucks County | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Staying in Laconia and Sullivan way also. My cuz and I are heading over to Ellacoya early, early Sunday morning - try to get there before the gates open at 4AM. Figure we can find somewhere to relax whether its in our cars or elsewhere until our waves go off close to 8AM. |

Veteran 229 New York | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread We're staying at Misty Harbor, about 5 minutes from Ellacoya, so I'm thinking we'll be fine getting up early and driving over. If anyone is staying there and wants to think about riding together let me know. |

Expert 657 Portland | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread I have to work on Friday, so I probably won't get out to Laconia until730-8. By the time we get checked in and settled, I imagine that I will just opt to crash with the family. I think the friday night get together (vs saturday) is the right call though. Since I probably won't be there, I want to wish everybody good luck in the race, I hope everybody nails their goals, and I look forward to reading all of the race reports next week! |

Member 52 Lehigh Valley | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread michael2..will there be any room race morning? getting there before 4am is a great idea, I would just have to cut back on the number of margaritas saturday evening. My wave goes off at 7:55, good thing swim is my strongest. Bucks County, PA? - that would be just down the road from me, when r u heading up to Laconia? Let me know about the ride if you could, thanks - [email protected] |

Extreme Veteran 475 Watertown, MA | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread So Fratello's does 'call aheads' - you call an hour or two in advance to book. Not sure I like the sounds of that for Friday night of Timberman weekend...I guess I'm fine sticking with Fratello's and I'll just call ahead a fwe hours in advance to give them enough warning. Does anything think we should switch to a different restaurant? |

Does anything think we should switch to a different restaurant? Ray & Sam - thanks much for doing the numbers and calling. I'm also fine sticking if Fratello's think a 2 hr call ahead will work to accomodate a party of 15. I guess with that number it would be optimal to guarantee a reservation so if there's an alternative restaurant it would be worth checking to have a backup. I'll let others chime in and see what the consensus is. Final track workout today with GC Tri club (there's about 8 of us from the club doing Timberman) 6 x 600's in the morning heat. Definitely getting excited!! |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Ray- (and Simon...and others)... I suggest we stick to the original plan. Ray can call ahead and we can all meet at Fratello's. If it doesn't work, we still have a chance to meet eachother (in the parking lot if need be) and then if it comes to simply going to the local ice cream shop and hangin' out, so be it. I'm just trying to keep it simple, but I'm open to suggestions. My family and I are leaving tomorrow morning. Pumped! Peace. |

Veteran 248 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread I am with Sam ... if Fratello's works out, great; otherwise plan B. On another note - I am debating about trying the hairless (leg) route ... any guys have pros/cons here? Main reason is comfort; after finishing my last HIM my legs were gritty, caked w sweat, snot, and who knows what else and just felt really gross ... (Taper week - too much time on your hands...) j |

Veteran 248 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread i may go the cream route...my assumption being that approach has the smallest chance of hair coming back in *thicker* ... that would stink. |

I'm just not too keen on rubbing something on my body that makes my hair fall out. Doesn't seem right. |

Member 52 Lehigh Valley | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Used to shave as a swimmer, grew back thick. Now when I shave for first time in long time, I use the nair product...works good, not great, and follow up with an electric razor, no nicks or cuts this way. Havent shaved for a tri event but havent had road rash in about 3 years, prolly the reason why no shaving. |

I will probably not make it to the friday night gathering to meet everyone. Is everyone picking up their packets on Friday or Saturday? I was planning on picking it up on friday for convenience. It says in the guide we can pick it up either day but they suggested 70.3 athletes pick up on Saturday. Not sure why they say that other than them wanting not too many people there on friday (sprint + 70.3 people). |
