japarker24 - 2012-08-17 9:51 AM I thought we agreed to not talk about the weather.............
Not a snowball's chance that you'll get tapering IM athletes to not talk about the weather.

Exactly.  I can tell you one thing though I did not start to get nevous until this AM.  I am harping on little aches and pains.  This next week will truly suck.

I bet everyone has nervous energy in this group! I just did IMLP and remember counting down. I have plans to do this race next year. My question is about lodging. I'm looking to at the Galt house, Hyatt, Marriott and Seelbeach. Are these all with in walking distance of the start or finish? Do they have a minimum night stay? I'm also looking for no more than $150 a night. Can anyone give me some info for what you are paying this year? Any other recommendations??? I was going to book early ( I think). At Lake Placid all the close hotels were sold out by race day.

Good luck to everyone!

Staying at the Galt House.  For three night it is costing me $600, $200 of which was due at the time of the reservation. I opted for the queen suite, so we had enough space.  If I could not have gotten a room there I would have went with the Hyatt.

I'll be staying at the Hyatt for the 2nd year in a row.  It is a little farther to transition than the Galt House, but it is at the finish line.  Very convenient.Smile

I was at the Marriott 2 years ago and will be at the SpringHill suites this year. Both 150 a night.

The Marriott is about 2 blocks closer to the finish but the Spring Hill suits is 2 block closer to transition. They are both well within walking distance. Advantage with SpringHill you get Breakfast with your room. Marriott you have to pay for it unless you are a platinum member.

This has been the worst taper.  Weather and logistics have kept me out of training as much as I wanted.  I was on track up through my peakweek and then I was only able to get 4-5 hours in last week, and if I get my ride in tomorrow, I'll be on track for _maybe_ the same amount this week.  And I haven't been able to even swim in a week (I can only swim after work, and afternoon thunderstorms are killing my pool time).

Mild things to complain about whilst I waste time for the next week.

I am getting about as much accomplished as you this week. I have been on uber taper due to work. But I have been able to get a few quick runs and swims in and a very quick 22 on the bike

I feel your pain!   I was super consistent with my training throughout and then I hit taper and caught a NASTY chest/sinus cold.  Last 2 weeks have been miserable - even an easy 1 hour z2 ride felt like a major undertaking earlier this week.

I'm starting to feel a little better but certainly not close to 100%.

This close to the race, your fitness is what it is........

Look at it as a way to get to the start line rested and ready to go!!!!!!!!

I would be shocked if it was wetsuit legal. Way to warm this summer. Doesn't matter, wouldn't use it any way.

I hear you. During my run to Bible study this morning a car failed to move over at all. When I stepped off the pavement my left foot went straight into a hole hidden by high grass. I rolled my ankle & hit the deck all while rolling out of the way for the next vehicle. Now I've got a sore & swollen L ankle & road rash on my R side. I doubt there will be any major impact on my race but not cool nevertheless.

Seems I recall something about getting to the start line healthy ...

Louisville is NOT like Lake Placid as far as lodging.  I booked the Galt House a whopping 3-weeks ago, and they still had plenty of rooms available.

Question: Mind you I am New Yorker, when I called the Galt House the girl who answered the phone had a thick but lovely southern accent.  Does everyone in Louisville have an accent like this?

I am staying at the Brown Hotel.  Pricelined it and got it for 90 per night.  Did it two years ago and got the marriot for 85 I think.  In my opinion, this is the only way to go.  You can't pick your hotel, but you  can pick you location such as downtown area and the star level of the hotel.  It saved me a bunch both times.

As far as the weather.......I looked.  If you did the race in 2010, you will look and pray it won't be a repeat of that sauna!

I did the race last year-my first IM. Not this year however. To all you racers- Best of luck. No matter how bad a day is going- I can always go back to the memory of crossing that finish line and a smile comes across my face. All of your work is going to be rewarded and you will carry that memory with you forever. Take it easy this week and enjoy the moment. Have a great race!
