thor67 - 2012-03-09 6:21 AM Bounced back trying to save a poor week of workouts with an hour on the cycle trainer last night. Will try for another ride at lunch today then taking bike in for a tuneup...bought a voucher(wagjag) online for MEC(similar to REI). Will see how that goes...
hope they do a quick tuneup. I have heard they can take quite a while.

They just called....bike finished, going to go pick it up this aft!

A very wet 16 miles today.  I had a 17.2 planned.  This morning, even with the 100 reminders, we forgot to spring forward.  I got out later than planned, and had to cut it to 16 miles.  It rained the entire run and poured for about 5 miles.  still was able to manage 8:20/mi pace.  will do the 17.2 next week, or maybe bump it up to 18.

Darren, I took your advice and only had 1 beverage yesterday, and it tasted fabulous.  A Seasonal brew by Widmer, BRRR.

Beer must be one hella recovery drink with the speed and miles you are putting in and the amount you drink.  Surprised  Think I may need to try a little more than once or twice a month and call it recovery!  You are doing a great job running in the rain and all...you say you are short in stature but you are NOT in mental toughness!

Sorry it rained so hard during your run.  If it's warm enough - I love running in the rain - but I Wouldn't imagine it wasn't too fun this morning considering you got off to a late start.

I tried the Widmer Pale Ale today.  Not bad.  Loved the fact that the nose was all malty - yet the finish was pretty hoppy!  Nice job on only having one. Keep it up!

In all matters, moderation is key.  You had the Drifter?  that has a unique lemony/citrus flavor for a pale ale.  Their signature is there Hefe, and I think that flavor makes it into their pale as well.

Thanks for the encouragement all.  I'm having my one bevi for the evening right now, savoring it.

After making beer this morning (I helped a friend make a maple wheat ale), I went out for a ride this afternoon.  The weather was great and the temp was in the high 70's.  The ride was great and I really pushed it as I headed for home.  Unfortunately - I probably pushed myself a bit too hard and now my hip is bugging me.  Grrrr!

Plan for the week - My wife has gone to her parents house in VA and she took two of the three kids.  So,

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - See if I can take my son swimming with me in the evening
Wednesday - Based upon how my hip - I might go for a bike ride
Thursday - another swim
Friday - Off
Saturday - My son has a scout outing so I might be able to get in a hike
Sunday - Bike ride

Have a great week everybody!

Did-not-want-to-run-today!

Forced myself to run 45minutes and am glad for it!

Usually don't really work out Monday after hockey but managed to pull a Kevin and get booted out of my hockey game last night(3 penalties/out!) Managed to get home earlier then planned!

Soooo, if you don't feel like running/swimming/biking, at least start walking, piddling, gliding and you will be amazed what you end up doing.

It also helps when you can hear your comrades in your group in the back of your head telling you not to be such a lazy a$$ and run! Smile

I can totally relate to this post.  We play the winiest group of guys in the league tonight at 10:30.  It's our last game.  I cannot guarantee I will finish the game this evening.  Good times.

Good for you working out even though you didn't feel like it.  That = 1 beer.

As stated earlier, I hope to keep my head and be cool tonight.

s/b/r today at the y.  I had 1650 pool workout.

wu/ TI drills

2x50 catchup

3x50 side front side.

did pretty well.

ms 3x400 at 9:30, 9:30, and 9:40.  pretty slow

200 cd of TI catch up.

I then did sprint 8 on the treadmill at 12 mph :30 intervals, and am now increasing incline to 2.0 to get 100% effort.  brutal

Then I woke too early, so I had 30 min extra at the gym.  so I got on the spin bike for 22 min. easy spin.

A great day of workout this morning.

First time posting from my iPhone. We will see how this goes...

Went to the pool tonight with my son and I'm glad I did. I had my best swim workout yet! For the first time - there were a couple of laps when the swimming was effortless. Didn't last long - but it was there. Reminded me a lot of running back in high school. There were times when I felt like I could run forever. It was kind of cool to experience that feeling again. I'm closing in on being able to swim a mile during every workout. I promise you all that I will get there by the end of the month.

Hip is getting better. Hoping to get out there for a quick ride tomorrow between hw and scouts!

Love seeing everyones posts. Keep up the good work!

Finally making headway in the pool.  4x500 swim today.  Swam it to the end w/o having to correct form issues in the middle of workout.  Felt way more confident this morning.  I just got my fins in the mail, and looking forward to puting them to use next week during drills.  Done with hockey, so I can now train 6 days a week.

Way to go flipper!

Question - are you just hitting your stride or has TI totally helped.

Whatever it is - keep it up.  What beer did you enjoy the celebrate

Totally doable - you;ve got three weekends and three long runs.  You can make that happen - when you do, what beer will you enjoy to celebrate your accomplishment?

Evening All - I had a kick a** bike ride today.  I threw caution to the wind and asked one of the strongest riders who lives at my school to take me and out and gauge my progress.  So he picked a hilly loop that realy challenged me.  While I wasn't able to stay in his draft (every time I got there and thought I would be able to catch my breath - he would pull away again), I managed to keep up with him.  When I asked him how hard he was trying - he told me that he was putting forth 50% effort.  No question there is room for improvement - but hearing that made all those hours on the trainer worth it.  When I got home, I checked my logs and found that I had never biked so far so fast!

What was my motivation you ask?  A pint of tasty home brew.  So good!

This is going to sound wierd, but I'm not celebrating with one tonight.  I'm trying to not eat after dinner.  Going for some more weight loss.  That hasn't happened in a month.  It's 7:44, and I'm still holding fast with water.  Hoping to turn in early w/o snacking for tomorrow's 4:40 wake up and 11.6 mile intermediate run.

Will be celebrating this weekend.  I'll update all on the selection then!

Tastes much different to me. I can drink a grasshopper in 2 swallows it seems. This one has a lot of wacky flavors going on. Doesn't get great grades.

Got my first ride in of the year. Nice 26k jaunt to work. Man, my hurt rate was through the rough even though I was 11 minutes off my pb and took it super easy. 4 months of the bike sure costs.

Was supposed to be 0 was more like -5, but the weather has been so warm the paths were super clear.

Awesomeness though.

1) Have you gone bike shopping yet? Any thoughts on what you are going to buy?

I did go look at some bikes last week and got all excited. BUT, then I rode my bike today, and dang, I like my bike. Flat spot in the wheel, broken pedal. It is in much better shape than I remembered it from last year. Weird, I was really hating it last year, ha. Absence makes the heart fonder I guess. So not in a big rush. Just going to get a commuter.

I wear magic mitts and bike gloves. But you are right. Losing a layer of fat sure doesn't help you stay warm. But the more muscles you got the more heat you can generate, so there is that bit.

Update.

I lied, I ate at 8:18.  3 things, but very moderate portions.  My 2 year old is waking up in the middle of the night multiple times.  Killing me.  I woke today for run, and hit the couch instead.  Only good thing is I weighed 181 this morning.  I needed the rest.  I would have had a horrible run, and would have been worthless all day at school.

Will get the run in tomorrow eith rest.
