karen26.2 - 2012-04-30 10:11 PM Alcatraz is on my bucket list.  I didn't know you had to jump off a boat.  Must go read up on it...

It's on my list, too, so I'm putting my name in the lottery for summer 2013.

Ooh, we should all put in for the lottery and have a mentor group destination race.  That would be so much fun.

Cindy was just saying how she wanted to visit San Francisco.

Yes.  If I get in, then my husband and I will be leaving the kids at home with my mother.  Adults only trip to Cali

For the women here -- I ordered SOAS tri shorts and tri top.  They fit perfectly and feel super comfy.  Shorts are pretty short though, so if you like them longer, then this brand isn't for you (they only have the one option for inseam).  I ordered the set with the hot pink accents and polka dots down the sides  Anyway, it's a newer line of clothing, so I thought I would share my experience.

3000 in the pool this morning 1 hour run tonight.

Question I currently have a pair of Desoto 400 mile shorts I like them to ride but I feel like I have monkey butt in them when I run has anyone tried the Oomph Kilauea compression short?

Those are interesting.  I was just talking to an EN team member yesterday about his IMAZ plans and he plans to go 400 mile shorts on the swim and ride and then change into running shorts.

I just wanted to say ya'll rock! Your numbers and your commitment have motivated me especially after the last 4-5 days I have had nothing. New month though and looking forward to the challenges ahead.

1400 yds in the pool this morning. Might get a bike in a little later today depending on whether kids have soccer or not with the rain we got today. Have a great day!

Let us know how you like them.  I actually perfer shorter tri shorts, so I may try them out.  My Desoto's that I love, are starting to get stretched out and I need a new pair of something.  I like pink too!

Question - I used to wear 2XU tri shorts and loved them because of the shorter length.  But, they have that stupid seam that runs up the middle, which I HATE!!!!  Why would you put a seam up the middle of tight fitting shorts???  SOAS looks like no seam up the middle, is that correct?

And, how long is the top?  I never find tops long enough.

Scott can't wait to hear the race report play by play!!! Good Job!!

April totals swimming was down this month due to pool not being open for spring break.

12 weeks till IM Lake Placid!!!!

April's totals:
Bike:26h 59m 55s  - 501.77 Mi
Run:16h 36m 06s  - 126.18 Mi
Swim:6h 00m  - 17900 Yd
Strength:2h 40m

Damn and I thought my month was big. Very well done.

Everlong,

Thanks for the kind words. 12 weeks out from IM Lake Placid those number need to continue to improve and build.

They will! I'm only 6.5 weeks from one of my two A races so I feel the crunch as well. Mine is an HIM and my first. One of Bill Bellichick's great lines about performance is if you make a bunch of small improvements it ends up being one large improvement. A little volume here, an extra hard interval there and you'll be primed.

Had I known I was at 99.16 miles running I would have done .84 to hit 100.  I'm anal that way.  Swim will pick up this month with joining masters.

April's totals:
Bike:26h 51m 30s  - 488.43 Mi
Run:18h 05m 35s  - 99.16 Mi
Swim:6h 09m 23s  - 18055.68 Yd

Wow our numbers are so similar. I so wanted to get to 500/100 this month but it just wasn't happening. I'm happy in retrospect I had the discipline to not push. May I'm doing it!

Bike:27h 25m  - 491.51 Mi
Run:15h 00m 46s  - 96.07 Mi
Swim:8h 48m  - 25450 Yd

karen26.2 - 2012-04-30 4:47 PM That picture is cool, but kind of freaks me out. Not sure I could jump off.

Anti-inflamatories can work wonders. Remember to drink plenty of water, they dehydrate me.

Freakin Awesome Picture.  Is that from NOLA or IMTx?

It was from my race yesterday.  It's an Alcatraz qualifier so they try to make it as close to that as possible.

Karen I had a friend that crossed the timing mat, freaked out and went back to the end of the line.  She ended up jumping but her time had started.

Scott - Do you still feel the startline rush looking at that picture?  Are you planning to enter the escape from alcatraz?

The seem up the middle is so bad for guys.  Oh and tri tops are never long enough.  I have the nice tramp stamp suntan right now.

As far feeling the rush now, no I don't.  I felt the rush walking through the doors from the cabin to the bow and then they were just screaming for us to get out ASAP so I was gone and swimming.  I do want to do Alcatraz.  I know there are 2 or 3 races that are pretty much the same there now.  One sells out quick and the others don't tend to, so maybe we all shoot for one of the lesser know ones?  IDK.

DeSoto has a longer top now, at least for the guys, I am not sure for the ladies. I picked it up and like it so far. I have only biked and ran in it just to test it out though. I think it is 1.5" longer in front and 2.5" in the back than their standard Tri top?

Yeah, I need to wear them for a swim and bike and then decide how I feel about them.  There isn't a seam up the middle.  The top could use another inch of length, but I'm going to see if it rides up or not.  I'm hoping it does not!  I've had 4 kids...no stretch marks or anything but still...no one needs to see all that.  LOL  Why don't they just make the darn things longer?!!!

@Scott -- nice pictures!

w/r/t tri clothing, I'm going to do a sprint in July in just a speedo.  If I could get away with it for longer distances, I would race in just a swim suit but too much chaffing for a marathon.

I'm going to do a sprint in a Speedo, too.  I worry about wedgies for the olympic distance run though.

Scott,

What single rear single bottle set up are you using? (X-lab Delta?)

I have an X-lab mini wing set up.  When I race I take one of the two holders off and maneuver the one I naturally reach for (right) as far to the center as possible.

So 900 pull, 900 paddles, 900 free in the pool followed by 35 minutes of recovery running.  I really would like to have seen the stroke I had in the pool today in the ocean last Sunday.

Wetsuits in 80 degree water are dangerous.  So easy to over heat.

Yep.  Lots of chatter on which shops in town have the best deals on speedsuits.  Speaking of who has one and do you like it?
