RR up.

Great job... That is a long freaking sprint... pretty near an Oly looking at those distances.

Swim... off by ~600 yrds, bike... off by ~6 miles, run... short by ~2 miles

cami bee - 2008-09-08 10:29 AM Do you ever question your enjoyment of triathlons?

I sure as hell did yesterday on that bike course. But I keep telling myself that it's just the inexperience talking. I like the swim and am starting to LOVE the run (crazy!). Actually, I thnk, no, I know I am more excited for Marine Corps Marathon than I was for this Oly, even before it turned into a du. Only thing is, even if the bike sucks for me (which it usually does), I love the feel AFTER the race is over. And yesterday, I remembered how much I HATE the feeling of DNFing or DNSing or just plain not doing a good job. And that is enough.

What's eatin' ya?

I think doing my marathon last october got me to enjoy running... i understand what you are saying about getting excited for the marathon... totally awesome experience.

yeah... sometimes races suck so I don't think about tris so much in the midst of them... just focus on the task at hand.

-B

Yeah, I'm pretty psyched. I know it's going to HURT and I very well might collapse, but assuming that my hip doesn't give me trouble, I think I can do it Plus, I've got a few people to show up, so that's always an incentive

Nope... If it ain't fun... what is the worth of doing it? Now during my HIM, after the bike, being really dehydrated on the run... was it fun? No, not really, but it got better and felt fantastic to actually finish. What is dragging you down?

Hmm.  I'm not sure the most coherent way to express what I'm feeling.  Basically I always thought it would be fun to do a triathlon so I did one.  It was pretty fun, but yeah it kind of sucked through the actual race.  However I really like doing the training.  Now that I've done a couple, just doing the training, I don't know it's not the same.  I'm not that fast, and I'm not really a competitive person, but I don't know why I spend so much time at tri's if I'm going to be DFL in my age group. I mean I know people that won't train for months and can still smoke me by over twenty minutes in a sprint.  I mean, I'm not a competitive person, but I still feel like a loser.  And I'm not a really much of a racer - I don't like biking fast, it holds no appeal for me.  And to get better at tri's people seem to spend at least 40-50% of their time on the bike.  I dunno.  I feel like I've already invested a lot time and moneywise into the endeavour.  Also, I'm afraid that if I don't have races on the schedule that I won't keep up with my exercising and become a chunky boo again.  I'd rather do tris and hate them, then end up with type II diabetes.  It's not that I don't enjoy being active/athletic, it's just really easy for me to get sidetracked without a specific deadline looming.

I'm signed up for a race in  two weeks and I'm just not feeling it - I mean it's free and I still not feeling it.  Bah.

Morning TAN peeps.

How is everyone today?

Morning Crowny.

10 hours of sleep last night and I'm feeling good to go today.  Drive home seemed a bit on the long side, but I got to listen to some football.  F-ing Bears.  How did that happen?

Heh.  Yeah.  You left, and we passed out for like, 2 hours.  Then I fell asleep again for another 45 minutes.  Then we were in bed at 9.  All in all, I think I slept for something like 12 hours.  Guess I was more tired than I thought.

Yeah.  In reality it is a tweener.  The long course was between an Oly and a HIM.

Oh yeah, my RR is up too.

I feel ya. The bike scares the crap out of me in the "race" scenario. I like it just fine out on training rides. But whizzing around corners at 30 mph isn't currently my idea of fun. I hope it is some day. I love running fast and swimming fast. I like fast - I just like fast that won't kill me!

What about just focusing on running? Or the rare beast of the swim/run event? Running is good because you don't HAVE to be fast. You just go out and do it - there's a lot less pressure when you run in a road event with several thousand people - I don't even look at where I place. Just my overall time, for my own knowledge.

Yeah, and with the way that 'tweener went I'm going to have to agree with you on the whole "I think I'm going to stick to sprints for a while" concept. And that extra ~2 miles of running may have been the death of me.

I think it is all about perspective. I am not fast either (for my age group and sex). I am always right smack dab in the middle of the field. No matter the race... but I am not there for everyone else. I am there for me. I am there to beat my own personal bests if I can... I am there to test my metal. I am there to race myself against the clock.

I can see where you can get caught looking at the field's time. Look at it this way. The winner of my HIM raced and finished... over 2 hours and 68 other people later I crossed the line... that is bad. But, I did it... I raced it. I trained for 7 months to race it. I did it.

You know you best. Love training... then train... but if you think that you need a goal in order to train... I think you will just need to find a goal and that might mean racing.

My goal for this coming season will be to work on my bike for Olys. I can do the swim and run easily. It's the stupid bike. A sprint bike course is easier to fake your way through. After MCM is done, it's onto some serious bikeage for the months of November/December, until I join the tri club I want to do. Then lots of everything, as always.

I've seriously considered that.  I definitely feel like running is more just about getting out there than triathlons/biking.  I actually really like the primalness of running - how equipment plays so much less of a role than say in the biking.  Also I like the fact that you can maintain your health with running with a lot less time than biking as well.  I've thought about taking a year or two off from tris and just running with swimming as a crosstrain - maybe joining a relay team or two.

Yeah, I'm just not even sure if I'm really enjoying training as much anymore either.  Part of it is an uphill battle with my body type.  I guess the best way to describe it is this - when I started swimming I loved it!  I just loved it and I still do.  I don't want to swim 3000 yards a day, but I still love getting into the water a couple of times a week.  Even though I'm not built for swimming per say and I will never be "fast", I've been doing it so long that I'm not bad.  I guess I was kind of hoping for that with tris - but I just don't think I'll feel the same about bike training as I do other stuff.  Plus I like strength training, so ya know ...

Rule #1 - No Pics in TAN.

D'Oh! Sorry. I will remove it promptly.

That's okay. It was one of the few rules set in place by the mods, to allow us to continue with TAN. Pics eat the bandwidth of the site, so with a thread this large, we already eat enough of it

Did you get the rule rundown yet?

#2 - no "L-O-L" in TAN. We just think it's dumb. 'Snerk' or BWAHAHAHA are acceptable substitues.

#3 - What happens in TAN stays in TAN.

#4 - No "talking" about non-TAN'ers or other threads in TAN.

you forgot rule #5.. you may kick ryan or 2goggs in the ding ding
