Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Merry Xmas or happy holidays everyone. I had a nice birthday yesterday and a very nice giggly xmas eve with the husband. Wednesdays weigh in was 187 (+1) not too bad considering all that's been going on I can't wait until all these holidays are over and I can get back to business. I did manage to get a late night run in last night though. Tomorrow I have some friends coming over for dinner. Have a great holiday! -Debb |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got in my Christmas virtual 10K tonight - 1:08:13. Respectable. I'll take it. My Christmas with the family was wonderful. How about for everyone else? Right now I am in Avila Beach with the sound of the ocean in the background. Doesn't get too much better than this. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Merry Christmas everyone!! I had a great day with the babies and family. I LOVE my family!! Work out gear included - safety running mace for my night runs, silicon ear plugs for my swimming (the last couple of longer swims I couldn't get the water out my ears!), new water bottles my bro-in-law loves, a new running outfit that I will probably wear for my Half Mary, bike socks, and heart rate monitor. I'm pretty stoked. I ate too much, I drank too much (mimosas were flowing all morning), BUT I did manage a 4 mile walk. We'll see if I can regroup before Wednesday weigh in. Tomorrow - I need to clean the house and get ready for the in-law who will arrive at 9pm, and I'm hoping to get a long bike ride in while my momma takes the kids to a movie. Hope you all had a great day!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi there ladies and Scott! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and are back into their tri training. My local Y had a "fitness marathon" this morning. I spent two hours and forty-five minutes there in spin class, pilates, Abs of Steel, group personal training then I ran on the treadmill. I ordered my new scale last night so next week I should be able to start with that and continue with the racing weight book. |

I think a couple of them are doing their first HIM in August too. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Awesome work out Lisa!! You are so good! I'm not being so good. I think I officially have the holiday blues. 1st Christmas without my dad. Sad. Today I napped for 2 hours instead of going on my bike ride and I ate WAY TOO MUCH pecan pie. UGH. I'm going to try to rally, perk up, and get some kind of work out in today. Wish me luck. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just looked at everyone's logs... You all put me to shame with all that working out over the holiday! I'm not really pleased with the way I've been thrown off track this month. Anyway, luckily the holidays are winding down and we can get back to business here. Sounds like everyone had a good time. Sorry it was a bit sad for you Kate - First holidays without a person is pretty hard sometimes. I didn't get any Tri toys, but I got a really nice digital camera for my Birthday which also takes great videos, so come Ironman my husband will be prepared to take lots of photos hehe. Registration opens for Door County on Jan 1st and I'm all psyched to register at midnight. The race has a REALLY good reputation and the buzz about it has been growing, so I want to be sure and get signed up early. Pretty positive it will sell out. |

Every day is a new beginning. You have accomplished so much and I think you can hold on to that. The holidays are tough, but now they are over and we can all work on our goals without the distraction of the holidays. I didn't get any tri gear either, but a nice digital camera is a great gift. And think how great you will look in the pictures at your IM! |

I don't know where you are because your training log is kind of empty. I would greatly encourage you to log all your training because it does help keep you honest. I tend to be delusional about what I actually did if I don't track it with my Garmin and upload it or otherwise account as precisely as possible about my training. We are a nice manageable group of ladies and Scott who are pretty much all training for an HIM in 2010 and several of us are signed up for our first IMs. Feel free to join us. We are a lot like a mentor group except that we are all the mentors AND the mentees. Anyway, good luck with your training and good luck in your first HIM. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello all.. You r all doing great. It has been hard to get a workout in going from relative to relative. We are now on a six hour drive to minnesota. The weather has also been brutal. I did get a couple of runs in and what a differencerunning at sea level. Averaged 9:30 miles instead of 12: 00. Hopefully this post isn't too screwed up coming from my blackberry. Take carr. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Gang! I had a great run today. It wasn't fast but I felt like I could have run longer if I needed too. It was also my first run with my polar heart rate monitor. It was interesting. I need to do some more research on what my numbers mean. I was in Zone 4 for almost the entire run. I did pick it up to get into zone 5 just to make sure my watch worked. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a polar watch with 5 zones. It made me load my age height weight and DOB and came up with my heart rate. I figure it was a good starting place. |

It made me load my age height weight and DOB and came up with my heart rate. I figure it was a good starting place. That is a good starting place, but a better one would be to do some sort of time trial and get your zones based on the result. In a nutshell, after warming up, you go as hard as you humanly can to get your heart rate up as high as you can. That would be your max. Then you figure out your zones from there. I think I will skip the challenge this month too. I am pretty consistent with my training and don't need it (much) for motivation. I do acknowledge that it has gotten me off my fanny to get that last workout in before the end of the month, but overall, I'm OK. I always look to see if there is a new and different one that might tempt me. Don't know what that might be or I would have to start it. HOWEVER, I was thinking of having a little contest with just us folks to see who could get to 2010 miles first. I would count running, biking, walking, hiking, swimming. Anything with forward motion involved, the exception being logging the "miles" on the trainer. Right now I only log hours, but I could log miles as well. The reason I don't is that it seems to show that I can go more miles at a given speed than I can really do on the road and that seemed like "cheating." Are you game for it? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in but trainer miles have to count otherwise I'd be going nowhere for 3 months. I get distance on my trainer through the Garmin cadence monitor. I haven't been tracking my mileage either (though I do have some of the data especially from the bike) but I was going to start adding to my log on Jan 1 so this will be fun. 2010 challenge...lets go! Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Excellent article on "saddle comfort." And a new saddle was barely mentioned and not much recommended. I buy mid-price bike shorts and am now itching to go out and buy the most expensive I can find. Same thing with chamois butter. I've never used it, but now think I probably ought to. |

Bike Sport Michigan is closed for business and I don't know how long their website will be active. There are other good articles there. |
