Karl Hungus,  you are in Iraq (with my son-in-law), fighting a war and we inspire you?  Dude, you are so much higher than I could ever hope to be.  Thanks for your service to me and our country.  Keep your head down.

I did Cardinal Harbour yesterday and thought the bike was not that bad.  Does anyone know how the other 56+ miles for the full IM compares?  Is it about the same, or more difficult?

I went 18 yesterday in the humidity and had my a$$ handed to me.   Sometimes a good a$$ kicking is just what you need to cleanse the soul.

Just finished a 92 mile ride and 3 mile run and it felt awesome. The revised nutrition plan with perpetum works like a charm.

x2 million!  Dude, any man or woman in uniform is an IRONMAN every day!  Funny thing is when I get tired and hot and want to call it short I use our military to pump me up.  Those men and women in full camo, IRAQ or AFGAN, 110-120 degrees, really...what do I have to complain about, absolutely nothing and I am training at the pleasure of what our military provides us, a very safe country from fear!  Bottom line, I was going to take it easy today and just thinking about this just put me out the door......

Are any of you on this thread doing the July 31st swim bike organized by Bob on Iamtri?

Yeah I'll be there for at least the swim. To be honest I'm not a big fan of group rides. For one thing traffic is even more rude towards big groups than they are to individual cyclists, and besides I don't like having to constantly slow down or speed up to the group pace. It is fun to be with lots of other IMs-to-be though so we'll see.

Since swimming is still my weakest I'm definitely up for that though.

Well I didn't do CH but most people agree that 1694 is the toughest part of the IM course and since you guys did most of that then yeah, that's a pretty good indication. But Ballard School Road and the parts immediately after it are pretty tough too and 393 ain't exactly a picnic either.

Most of it is like the part you did though, just endless rolling hills. Actually the first & last 10 miles or so along River Road are mostly flat so that part should be easier than what you did.

Did cardinal harbour this weekend to see the course and there is no reason to worry about that bike course. Honestly there is a couple of big hills but nothing that hurts.

Subject: Group Swim and Ride Weekends at IMKY
Hey All,

I have coordinated group swims and rides for the next three Saturdays (July 24, 31 and August 7) on the IMKY course.  We meet at the Yellow Lot on River Road which is 1/8th mile from the Tumbleweeds Restaurant (IMKY swim start) which is located at 1201 River Road, Louisville, KY  40602.  For those wishing to swim in/around/behind Towhead Island arrive by 7:45am for a short swim talk and then swim starting about 8:10am until 9am.  Cost to do the swim is $5 so we can tip our kayaker(s) there for our safety.  For those riding be at at the Yellow Lot by 9am to set up your bike, register and hear the pre-ride announcements at 9:15am.  Our ride commences at 9:30am sharp.  Ride cost is $10 to cover our SAG/aid (two vehicles on the course supporting the whole day with water, ice, Gatorade, bagels, bananas, energy bars, oranges, etc...)  Ride options are 80 miles (one LaGrange loop) or the full 112 mile bike course.  Riders sign a waiver and it is an open course with traffic along the route the entire way, just like on race day.  Last ride we had 83 riders so everyone found someone/group/cluster who was riding at/about their speed.  Speed averages from 20-22mph down to the low teens.  If you are interested in riding on one or more of these rides (July 24, July 31 and/or August 7) just email me at   [email protected] .  We also have a big group of 370 people doing the race over on www.iamtri.com where we post these rides and have alot of discussion/info sharing if you want to check that out.  Also for these rides if you want to bring your SPECIAL NEEDS BAG to test this out before race day bring it along and we'll have it for you out on the course at about mile 67-68 on your second loop on the bike.  If you have questions just email me.

Hope you can join us.

Bob

Thanks for the heads up Bob.  I'll be doing the ride on August 7th, looking forward to riding the full course in some HEAT!

Did my first olympic triathlon ever last weekend in Illinois and boy was it an eye-opener.  I have now re-adjusted my training to offset the discrepancies in my race times.  I raced in the collegiate division, which went off with the first wave with the elites.  It was like a collegiate conference race or something so there was a strong showing.  The swim start was reminiscent of Ironman Wisconsin/human washing machine.

The race was on a Saturday so I put my typical long bike and run back a day.  Is anyone else racing this late in the season?  If its on a Sunday do you just split the long ride/run (ride Saturday, race Sunday, run Monday)?

I ran long today, and I'm about to head to the pool for a swim (combine my Sunday and Monday workouts to make up for the "lost" day.  I did poorly in the open water swim last weekend but it reminded me how much I love swimming in a warm lake as opposed to the indoor poooooool.

Hope everyone's week is strong!

Just realized how close we actually are to taper!  I'm switching up my schedule a bit and doing my PEAK peak run this weekend, moving a long ride to next week and then the following week is the final Peak Week!  This weekend I'll be doing the San Fransisco Marathon, but not at my pace.  It's my girlfriend's first marathon so I'll be running it with her at a nice comfy pace.  I just hope that it isn't too comfy because you know how sometimes when you try to run below your normal pace for too long it starts to hurt it a bit in the knees.

Feeling good!  I'm going to fly through this Ironman and finish before the heat even knows I'm there!

Had my first 70.3 this weekend, Cardinal Harbour, and it went pretty well. The bike is not as bad as everyone is making it to be. I guess I am lucky enough to have similar terrain in Alpharetta. The run burnt my up! I was walking a lot, as was everyone else. The swim was alright, just dirty water

Just remember to hydrate well and grab ice come race day, if it is as warm as it was this past weekend, we will need all the help we can get! Almost there, people, this is the last push!

I know we're getting close, I'm counting down just like the rest of you, but that question just turned my stomach.  I don't want to think that we're close enough to have bib numbers just yet.

Just wanted to see if you needed my name or money in advance. i would like to swim a bit and then ride as well on Saturday (July 31st) if that is possible. Please let me know what you need from me.

Thanks!
