Due to work stuff, I decided to run on the treadmill at the Y instead of outside.  Bad decision. Frown

There were no fans and no air movement.  Once I got going, the temp in the room is too HOT.  I thought I was going to get sick from the heat, so I slowed my tempo down.  There was also nothing to distract me from how horrible I felt except a silent TV  tuned to a investment program.  Watching it and reading the captions just made me feel queasier.   Don't know if I want to do that again!

On the flip side,  my run DID get done.  Smile

Couple of questions for you all this morning...

When I went out for my run last night it was 33 degrees and the sun was going down, it had dropped to 30 by the time I got home. My legs were fine (2 pair of tights), my head and hands were fine, my arms were fine, but my midsection was COLD! My tummy and back were freezing, I was shivering near the end. I had on an Under Armour cold gear compression top, and a midweight windproof jacket. I'm thinking that where I was cold is where I sweat the most. Anyone have any suggestions on how to keep warm?

Second question... I'm still working out the kinks with my swimming. I've only been swimming 500 or so meters during my pool sessions because when I notice my form starting to get worse from getting tired I stop. Should I keep on swimming to build endurance or should I stop then?

Thanks Ghoulies! You're the best!!!!!

MORNING ANN!

HTFU on the run!  WOOT.

i suggest wearing a tank top (wicking) under the Underarmour, somthing thats snug closely to that core.  and a vest if you have one.  jackets are great, but ive found im actually warmer when i wear my vest.

if your cores warm, your warm.

as for your swimming question, question for you?  is the 500 a continuous swim or is broken down into sets?

if its continuous i suggest that you break it down into sets until you can go 'longer' w/out losing form....

if its sets than decrease your speed and increase the rest interval in between sets.  once you start to see that your form is consistent, then you can increase your speed, decrease the speed intervals OR if its a continous swim being to elongate the sets that you broke the total distance down into.

just my advice.

HAPPY SWIMMING!

WELL GHOULIES.

im off to spin out my legs this morning.  still full of kinks.

i can tell you im NOT gonna be doing boot camp again any time soon.

i was gonna do 20/20/20, but im so 'afraid' of that room now, im gonna swim instead.

im feel safer in the pool.

meetin an uber cool Tri Chick today for lunch.

its been a b i t you know what trying to coordinate her schedule and mine, but i think we finally picked a winner and we'll actually be able to get together.

im really looking forward to meet her, the only 'contact' ive had is through FB and the tri club page....but i just know ALREADY, were gonna get along famously.

so full day on tap for me (what else is new...)

oh and i scored a job....short term, pays crap but....exciting nonetheless.

and im waiting to hear if theres an open position at the Y, that hasnt been filled yet, that they'll offer to me.  i would be working the front desk, answering questions, registering people for classes, giving people a tour of the facility, 'selling' the membership.

ya think i can do that job?

AW YEAH.

the other one is uber cool too....i have some fantastic friends.  the one that i will work for does harmonic therapy - he plays the digeridoo - which omits the same sound frequency wave as an ultrasound.

ultrasounds are often used medically to treat certain conditions/the principle is the same w the didge.

ill be doing all the advance work here in PGH/OH for my friend to come and do classes/workshops.

pretty groovy gig.

well.

im on with my day.

stay warm GHOULIES!

Ann, really good advice from the Queen.  Only thing to add re the swim is to ask if you incorporate drills into your swim.  I try to make at least one of my swims each week be drill focused.  In the end, swimming is alot more about form than anything else.  *Advice from the slowest swimmer in the pool*

Good advice from all so far.

The layering thing is hard to figure out.  A lot of trial and error involved there if you ask me.  You'll want plenty of layers to keep the core warm, but not so much as to cause you to sweat more and thus making you colder by trapping the wetness there.  After 2 years of running in the cold I still haven't figured out an optimal layering system and unfortunately I haven't been able to test any new setups this winter.

I like the idea of splitting your sets up.  If you feel your form starting to fall apart take a break.  30s, 1 minute, 2 minutes whatever you need to recover and regain some form and then attack another 100 or so.  I know the goal in triathlon is to do the swim continuously, but by breaking things up I still think you can gain endurance.  And like Kim said drilling is also a great way to break things up, and it will help you focus on form.  The majority of my workouts are probably about 50% drilling.

ya.  i was just recently one those customers that the front desk people had to put up with.

im actually ashamed of myself now, but.....

they have sign ups for spin classes, and they have a 3 day in advance policy, meaning that any spin class you want to sign up for you can start signing up three days before the class day.

so i was waiting until Thursday to sign up for my 2 hr endurance class and Tuesday for my Thursday class.

i was signing up on Tuesday for the Thursday class, and commented how i would sign up on Thursday for the Saturday class.

they looked at the class list and noticed that people were already signed up for the class.

i got rude.  cuz. i wouldve waited until Thurs to register for the class, like im 'supposed' only to find the class full like i did two weeks ago.

i said that i didnt personally care what the policy was, if its three days, then its three days, but whatever the policy is it needs to be 'enforced' consistently.

i did raise my voice, and communicated that this has happened to me on several occassions (and not that the particular woman that were helping me were the cause) and that there needed to be some resolution.

i did apologize before i left, but....

im hoping this karma doesnt come around BITE me in the azz.

Good morning Ghoulies!!!!

They're calling for snow here this weekend. I've heard anywhere from 1 to 12 inches. My 10 mile run this weekend should be exciting!!!

Have a great day!

Robin, what part of NC are you in? I read that some parts could get a foot of snow.

We are right in the are where they are calling for "significant buildup of ice (1-2 inches)covered with a significant buildup of snow -3-8 inches). This in an area with winding, steep mountain roads. I would enjoy the heck out of it if I didn't have to travel tomorrow to Charlotte in the middle of the storm to pick up my mom from the airport. 1 1/2 hours each way. Did I mention she has made worrying her profession for 80+ years!

We are in an area that doesn't get a lot of snow. They get a lot all around us (25 minutes east/ north) but we usually don't. It would be a really fun treat if I didn't have to make this treck.
sigh.
Today, I WILL throw snowball(s) though!
