itsallrelative_Maine - 2010-04-30 2:59 PM (Just a general warning - feeling kind of snarky)

So Warren - I had a thought - how about aero on the rollers?

(end snarky)

And I was just starting to feel good about my roller performance.  That would be quite an adventure, but I bet worth it in the long run.  Man, just what I need, more challenges!

Warren - Be sure to have the video rolling when you do aero on the rollers... America's Funniest Home Videos, here you come!!!  Hey, it could win you $10 grand and think of the tri bike you could buy with that!!!

Ok - you guys are making me feel like I will be fine this weekend...thanks so much for the encouragement. I now know if things start to get me down, all I have to think about is Warren riding aero on the rollers.

Glad I could help by providing entertainment for everyone!  I'll try to get video of me wiping out.  Follow the plan Jennifer - tapering is an important part of training.  You WILL be fine.

I just wanted to let everyone know some stuff going on in our lives.  A very close friend had a tragedy last week.  Their 16 year old was riding a dirt bike and a tree fell on him and killed him.  He was a great kid and so far the parents are doing great by focusing on all the positives and celebrating the time they had him.

I almost didn't come down to this golf trip, but my wife has been helping them out this week and they all really didn't want me to cancel the trip.

I'm not trying to be a downer, but just reminding everyone that life is precious and your relationship with your family is so important.  Don't leave things unsaid, and make sure you let them know how you feel about them.  And this tri thing is a great pursuit and hobby, but remember to keep your priorities straight.  I love seeing those race reports, training rides/runs, and great vacations with the kids and/or spouses.  That's yet another thing I love about this group.

Warren, I am so sorry to hear about your friend and their family. What a loss for them.

You are absolutely right to remind us that this is a hobby and that friends and family are vitally important. It too cheers me to see in all of our logs mention of including families in your sport and how compromises are made. Balancing work, family, friends and triathlon is a huge challenge - it helps me a great deal to see others struggling and succeeding at this balance.

Many thoughts and prayers going out to this family.

There is no greater loss than to lose one's child.  I can't imagine what they are going through.  I've always made a point to put family first, sometimes at the expense of my career.  My grandfather always said, "there's never been a person that sat on their death bed and said, 'I wish I would have spent more time in the office'"

Sorry to hear about your friend losing their child.  Mon....I couldn't imagine....painful.  I am glad they are being positive about it and celebrating the time they did have with him.  That is awesome.

You aren't being a downer, it is actually a great reminder to keep our priorities strait.  I constantly need to remind myself to be grateful and to live in the NOW.  Thanks for sharing that with us.

Rene,
Congratulations on completing your first triathlon... WELCOME TO THE CLUB, MR. TRIATLETE!  Your pace on each leg were awesome... sub 2:00/100yd swim, 19mph bike and (holy speed demon, Batman) 6 min/mi run.  Blistering, my friend!

Nice first effort.  15th overall. Wow.  I'm glad Idaho is a long way from Oklahoma and I don't have to go head to head with you.

Wow Rene, that was a smoking race you ran.  I agree with Ray, except there would be no fighting at all from me to stay ahead of you.  6 minutes miles?!?!?!?  I could keep up for about 100 yards!

Random thought... Feeling more and more comfortable in the water after a 4 month off-season break.  However, I have a love/hate relationship with swimming.  I hate just thinking about having to go to the pool.  I hate the first 10 minutes while I'm in the pool.  Then I start to enjoy my swim after I'm warmed up.  Then I LOOOOOVE it the second the workout is over.  I'll have positive thoughts about it until I have to start thinking about my next swim workout.  Why is that?

Bill,

I'm with you. swimming is the hassle work out. I have to go somewhere for it, and a 30min workout actually takes over an hour. to where run/bike I leave from the house. That's it for me, but once going, I actually do enjoy it some, but love it when its done!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! we're off to Durango Colorado today for my daughters soccer tournament, so I don't think I'll have any workouts - a nice break - but maybe I can sneak in a run, as there's a great trail that runs along the river in Durango.

anyhow, enjoy the weekend and Jennifer - rock it out on the 1/2!!!! we'll all be there cheering you on at the finish!

My wife doesn't seem to be as excited as I am, so I can post here.  I finally signed up for the Redman 140.6.  They have my $400.00 so there is no backing out now.  I can't believe how nervous I was through the process.  But now I am excited once again.

Also, I ordered a new wheelset today.   Since I have a limited budget, it took a while to decide what I wanted.   There was a great thread here on BT about good wheelsets for us big guys.  In my opinion the Vuelta Corsa came out on top.  Hopefully, they'll be here within the week.  I feel like a kid waiting for Santa Claus.

Jennier, I will be awaiting your race report.  Notice I didn't say "I'll be waiting to see  how you did"  You are plenty prepared.  Have some fun!!!!!!1

Ray - That's awesome, you're committed now.  Post some pics when Santa comes.  I still haven't pulled the trigger on my 70.3, but will very soon.

I agree with you guys on the swimming, at least for now for me.  I think it's all the hassle involved in going somewhere to do the swimming.  Once we're at the cottage for weekends in the summer (and the water is over 55) I have no problem swimming because I jump off the dock and go.  Going to the pool, 20 minutes each way and dressing and showering and all that garbage makes it a tougher workout.

Go get it Jennifer, we'll be pacing you the whole way.

Ray - that is great news about the Redman! Now you've done it. I'd love to see pictures of the new wheels when they arrive (you can always track the package on-line for an up-to-the-minute locale).

For swimming...as you all know - that is not a favorite sport of mine...but I have signed up for lessons (hopefully starting next week)...can't wait until it is warm enough to OWS - my favorite lake is about 3 miles from our house, (not as close as Warren's-but it will do) I should be able to fit something in quite often.

We made it down to DC with no hassle. Race day looks to be cool (high of 68), a little windy but no rain (woot!). We are going to pick up the race packet today and then to a baseball game this afternoon. I'll get to glimpse start/end of the course during packet pickup. It's a two loop, so I'm thinking of taking it slow the first lap, getting the lay of the course and then hitting it hard for the second lap. (Okay - enough about the race...thanks for letting me babble)

Have a great weekend all. Ciao!

Jennifer - I'm sure the race is consuming your thoughts, so feel free to babble away.  Taking the first loop slow sounds like a great strategy.  There's plenty of time to pick it up if you feel good.  Try to get some sleep tonight.  We are all waiting to see that finisher's medal!

Just really quick before I get on the plane to go home...finished (whew!)...goal was under 2:30...chip time was 2:10:40...woot! Arlington is MUCH flatter than Camden, ME.

Will write a race report tomorrow. Had a great time. Thanks for all the encouragement.
