carrie639 - 2010-07-25 3:57 PM Hey guys,

Finally coming up for air with work.  My sister and I decided to do a sprint relay race this weekend. She has never done a race.  I did the swim and bike, she did the run. We placed 2nd overall which was awesome . . . 8 second behind first, arrrggghhh!!!

I still don't know that I am totally recovered from the half aquabike a few weeks ago, but it went well today. Swim was long, bike went better than I expected.

Wauconda Sprint Triathlon

Sweet job!!  Congratulations!

Hey guys, been out a week.  After my century ride (which went very well by the way) we left for a camping trip.  Had limited access to internet while gone.  Will get caught up later, but hope everyone is doing well.

Just a really quick note here to let you all know how I did:

I placed first in my age group out 6 and 10th overall out of about 300. The swim was about 300-350 yards longer than expected based on my time and I know my sighting wasn't that bad. I feel with my bike un-clipping before coming in to T2 and laughed it off. My final time was 1:21:22 which was 3 minutes off of my watch time. So I really think I was 3 minutes faster. Overall it was a great race for me and a good effort from me. Here is the race link to read more:

Well, I was 4/4 in my AG   Considering the 105 degree heat I'm okay with it.  Seriously, my swim was about 4 minutes slower than my PB for the distance last year which isn't a surprise since the PB was in 70 degree water in a wetsuit with a straight out and back along the bouy line--no navigation skills necessary!

The swim to bike transition sucked but the course layout was the pits anyway.

My bike was a lot slower than I thought  it was.  Most of the time my computer said 17-18 mph, with several harder efforts.  I know the hills took a lot from me and I know there were areas on the back part of the course where my legs were toasted.

T2  ehh, shoes and socks....

I didn't run hard, not in that heat.  I walked probably half that course.  When it's 105 out the name of the game is safety, not speed.

Congrats on your race Scott.  Even with the 'pedal incident' your times were really good.  Congrats again!

It was 105 frickin' degrees!  And considering your recent asthma issues, you rocked this race no matter what the times say or your ranking in your age group.  Congratulations again!

QueenZipp - 2010-07-25 1:22 PM Waiting for splits but the race wasn't as bad as I thought.  Finished the swim without getting fished out of the river, that was a positive.  Long and NASTY transition to the bike.  (lay out of the course has it over a pebble path, up a flight of stairs then 2 blocks to the bike area). LOVED the ride today, kicked serious booty.  T2 wasn't that bad.....Run course SUCKS!  City running is the pits!  No shade, Several flights of stairs......however, they passed out wet sponges around mile 2 and those were wonderful things.  Walked a lot of the run to keep the HR controled and from overheating....

Congrats on your race finish!! Hopefully your are starting to feel more confident after all the problems you were having before!

Hey congrats on the finish for the relay race with your sister! That is awesome that you placed 2nd and a little rought to find out it was only by 8 seconds. If you are doing anymore local triathlons or races, we should see if we can set up a meet. Congrats again on the hardware!!!

Compeleting a triathlon in 105 degrees is an acomplishment in its self. All I could of expected to do was just finish the race and not pass out!!

Hi, checking in. Sorry I haven't been on here at all.
Sorry to hear about Bryan.
Had a good race the other week. 3rd/12 in my age group. Only a TAT as I had only been back training for almost 4 weeks.
Full sprint in a week and a half.
Enjoying being back.
Got new googles and race suit last night. Googles had become a disaster although I was used to swimming with them half full. Had to keep telling myself I was a competitive swimmer for 12 yrs and never trained or raced with them. Not bad considering I spent a lot of time swimming in the harbour (salt water of course).
Hope everyone's week is going well.

Great job finishing.  I heard it was brutal.  I rode Sat in that heat and I lost 8 pounds over a 3 hour ride and I drank over a gallon of fluid.

I keep telling myself I wish I could have raced but my achilles isn't ready, but deep down inside I really didn't miss that sweat feast.

Sorry I've been out of the loop for three weeks, but I was too depressed to even look at a website.  My achilles injury flared up again, and would not go away this time.  After taking two weeks off from running it still hurt.  Broke down and saw a doctor and getting treatments.

So far its not a season ender since I can still ride, but I'm really behind on my running.  Considering I'm signed up for a OLY in two weeks, a HIM in Sept, and my first Marathon in Nov. its killing me not running.  I go back today and see if I get release to run.

Hope the rest of  you are doing well.  I got to meet Judy in person a couple of weeks ago, and she is great.  We both volunteered at a local race.

Great to hear!  Good luck starting easy.  I find distractions like playing wit speed and the ipod help if I am stuck on a treadmill.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  I have a little bit of a back down weekend - only a 3 hour bike ride Saturday and a 1:15 run on Sunday.  Ha!

Good luck to anyone racing.

Hi group!  I'm back!

First off congrats to all of the recent racers: Carrie on the relay, Scotty on the AG win, and Judi racing in brutal conditions.  You guys all did great!

Jack and Judi, I hope your respective injuries clear themselves up quick.  Fi, glad to hear you are hanging in there and have a race coming up.  Everyone else, I hope the training continues to go well!

Ragbrai was an incredible experience.  Its basically just a giant party on your bike and I had a blast up until my accident.  Day 6 I hit a rut in the median and was tossed over my handlebars.  Suffered a concussion and had to get stitches in my head and finger.  I'm bruised and have quite a bit of road rash, but fortunately nothing was broken so IMWI is still in the cards for me.  I'm hoping for a quick recovery.

Yikes!  Scary Frown  Glad you had fun besides the accident, though!  Good thing you're mostly ok - heal quickly!!

I was actually thinking of doing Ragbrai as well, but ended up not signing up since it was the week after my HIM.  I'd love to do it maybe next year if I can take the time off work!

Neal,

Hope you are feeling better, any pics (assume your sense of humor is back)

Hopefully you recover quickly and don't lose to much training time.  What exactly happened?  Did you not see the barrier? Blocked by others?
