No..probably not; the computer will probably fit between the bars.  The advantage to this little mount is that you can mount it out farther so you don't have to bend your head down to look at the computer.  You're welcome to try it out....if it doesn't work, I just ask that you pay it forward to someone else.  It doesn't require any special adapter or tooling.

Gotcha.  I'll probably just leave it on the bars for now.  Might as well pass it on to somebody that is sure to use it.  I appreciate the offer though.

4k is a long way to go in the pool when your goggles break in the first 100 and you end up wearing little kids goggles for the remainder of the set.i feel like my eyes are that of a pug now but a good set in the water this morning.

Hah.  That's no fun.  My swim would be canceled for the day in that event.  I have a pumpkin head to start with and a big nose on top of it.  If I tried to wear my sons goggles, assuming I didn't break the strap trying to put them on, I would have a half inch gap between my face and the lenses from my nose holding them out.  That's why I gotta pack 2 pair in my bag.  On the flip, if my son tried wearing mine, he would probably have one lense on his left eye and one on his right ear.

I feel awful.  Must have a wicked head cold setting in.  Just feel all around fatigued.  Fell asleep after dinner on tuesday and totally slept through my workout time.  Yesterday I made it in but felt like I was going to pass out on the treadmill.  I guess it was a combination of guilt for missing tuesday and stupidity that kept me on until the finish but now I feel twice as bad.  I think I'll be missing again today and try to get the run again tomorrow.  I think I would rather throw up than have those sinus headaches with the chills.

I'm going to have to start getting creative to get some of these workouts in.  I guess if I don't get the swim, it means I ride my bike after the kids are in bed.  I did get a 5am run in this morning at least.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble juggling everything.  You've done a great job arranging your schedule to get your workouts in!

_Deb_ - 2011-02-02 8:07 PM The math in this thread is making my head hurt.  I did extremely well in high school math, but then went on to get a theatre degree.  Now just reading this is making smoke come out of my ears.  Suffice it to say that I am slow enough that it doesn't matter at all whether I have an aero helmet.  Or perhaps I need one more then anyone?

I'm currently sitting at home wondering whether I will get my swim in tonight.  Lane swim starts in 55 minutes and lasts for an hour.  My husband isn't home yet and I can't go unless he gets here in time (somebody has made it illegal to leave a 2 and 3 year old without supervision).  A recent promotion has given us some more money in the pocket, but at the cost of him working more overtime...

I'm going to have to start getting creative to get some of these workouts in.  I guess if I don't get the swim, it means I ride my bike after the kids are in bed.  I did get a 5am run in this morning at least.

Triathlon, especially the longer distances you go is all about improvisation, this holds true in trainnig all the time. Your on the right track here Deb, good mindset to not just pass and find an alternative instead of swimming!

Yeah this was my longest set since swimming IM last September, but it is also the power of masters that pushes you. If I were alone in the pool myself I probably would not have finished and would have used the kid goggles as my escape out of the water without feeling guilty.

No blue trucks on the goggles but the arm floaties in the lost and found were a bit appealing on those last couple sets...lol

Weighed in at 223 today on the scale I have been using regularly, so that was nice to see this morning.  Sadly I have to work during the super bowl.  I feel that this should some how be against the rules. I would love to be back in Green Bay with all my friends and fam, GB is where I was born and raised until I was 21.  On the plus side I will be saving myself from a lot of empty calories and a wicked hangover from celebrating until the wee hours of the morning after the Pack becomes super bowl champs.

I know what you mean about the masters class.  I haven't been able to make my last 6 classes and can't believe how much harder it is to put in the same distances and times when I swim alone.

jgerbodegrant - 2011-02-02 8:27 PM Hey I figured I would put this up on our forum before I gave it away in the pay-it-forward thread.

I have a profile designs aero bar computer mount.  it's about 1" long by 1/2" diameter.  It won't fit my giant computer.  If anyone needs it, shoot me your address and it's yours.

Do you need a special mount for aero bars?  I got a set of profile designs off ebay but I figured they would mount far enough apart to leave my computer on the handle bars.  Is this wrong?

No..probably not; the computer will probably fit between the bars.  The advantage to this little mount is that you can mount it out farther so you don't have to bend your head down to look at the computer.  You're welcome to try it out....if it doesn't work, I just ask that you pay it forward to someone else.  It doesn't require any special adapter or tooling.

I have the same mount...and honestly...I don't know how anyone riding aero can live without it.  Well...especially if you want power numbers right in front of your face telling you to ride harder...LOL

good run in the AM today.  Not too fast, but it wasn't supposed to be.  On the trainer/drainer tonight for 1.5 hours.  I am having alot of frusterations with my cycling lately.  For one, even when I feel like my legs are killing me and I am peddling like crazy, I can't get my heart rate up.  The best I can manage is ~140 to 145 bpm.  I feel like either I am being too easy on myself of something is wrong, I am doing something wrong, etc..?!?! Conversely when I run, I can easily get my hr up over 170 and keep it there for 4 or 5 minutes without any problem.  Any thoughts on this and how I might remedy it??  Thanks!.....

Subject: RE: Newbz' Spring Fling Mentor Group is FULL!

Because cycling is not weight bearing, it's naturally harder to get your HR as high as your run.  In an all out sprint (running) effort, I've been able to get my HR up in near 200 for just a short while.  For the bike, I think 182 is the highest I've managed sprinting up a hill.

But I do think that a lot of people have a hard putting in equal effort on the bike as they do the run.  IMO...if you're really pushing hard on the bike...say in a 4-5 minute hard effort...you should be able to get your HR above 150...if not 160.  Embrace the pain and push outside your comfort level.

Honestly...when I first started riding...my RPE scale was totally off.  What I thought was a 9 or 10...is really more like a 6-7.  Try hanging on to a group of guys hammering 23-24 mph into a stiff 20-25 mph wind and you'll realize that you do indeed have higher limits than you originally thought.

I understand, though thankfully I don't feel THAT bad. Today was a rest day (that I'd originally intended to do yesterday, 'cause I woke-up feeling like I'd been partying all night. Almost a hung-over feeling, and I've not had alcohol in almost a year. So, pancakes and internet before work.

Had a pretty good group ride today after work.  First time I rode with these guys in about 4 months and I forgot just how strong they are.

I had an all right run last night.  Only 30 mins, but kept a comfortable sub 10 min pace in z1-z2.

Also tried to go to the pool.  We pay a pretty cheap 6 month membership of 110 to use the pool.  The problem is that open swim is only during a one hour period of time in the evening.  This is the only time I can make it to the pool.  The problem is that it's a 6 lane pool.  3 of the lanes are high school swim team and 3 lanes are open swim.  This used to be manageable because at most there would be like 10 people there and circle swimming was good enough to keep everyone on their workout.
This week someone has decided that doing private lessons in one of the 3 open swim lanes.  This private lesson is with 2 people, who are doing kick drills the whole time...so you guessed it...there were 11 people at the pool trying to swim in 2 lanes.  Nobody had any concept of the fact that there should be a slow and a fast lane.  What a mess...left after 15 minutes.  I know everyone deserves pool time and everyone has to learn, but it's frustrating when you pay to use a pool and can't use it.

My favorite is when everyone is sharing a lane except the aqua jogger and the lady who can't swim (we have a few doggie paddlers who use the lap pool).  Please do those over in the rec pool.  Please!

Yikes.  We have problems at our pool sometimes too.  It's only a 4 lane pool.  The regulars all know which lanes are supposed to be fast, med, and slow, but the lifeguards don't always put the signs out.  Then the newbies jump in any of the lanes and royally mess up the speed.  Fortunately, I usually manage to be there when there's only 2 per lane, but I've had to swim with as much as 6 - all going different speeds with no concept of letting people pass.  It's frustrating when that happens.

As for me, I got a swim and a bike yesterday.  I've got a cold, but it isn't hitting me too hard (knock on wood).  Today I'm planning on biking and running at the track.  The weather isn't actually that cold, but I just got new running shoes.  I want to run inside a few times to make sure I like them.  I can return them if I don't, but not if I take them outside.  I think my old shoes still have some miles in them, but they'll be done sometime soon, so I need to make sure I've got new ones good to go.

Got my swin in before work and did my run as soon as I got here.  This recovery week almost feels like I'm cheating.  I think I am going to throw in an extra little run tomorrow.  I wasn't watching the weather to see the heat wave we have coming       (32°F tomorrow).  Feel bad not getting any runs with the dog so I'll take her out for a short jog tomorrow.  Besides, she is getting a little chunky over the winter.

You can generally find lanes at the Y I swim at.  But our master's class is getting really crowded lately.  Lots of new faces.  We were swimming about 5 to a lane on Wednesday...where normally it's 3-4.

I should just bite the bullet and jump into the master's class.  Probably solve a lot of my problems and get my workouts done earlier.  The extra expense is tough to swallow though.

a touch over an hour on the trainer today. I picked up a trainer-specific tire, but have not mounted it yet 'cause I still only have one wheelset.

when I win the lottery and get to run away, I'll go somewhere with Masters Classes. The small pool here in town won't open until April or May, and the next closest one is about an hour away and has horrible hours and constantly closes.

Anyone ever use SRAM S60 or Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL wheels? I'm perfectly willing to go with something else, but right now those are the wheels I'm looking at the most. SRAMs are 60mm and I believe they're all-carbon (w/ alloy brake channel); Mavics are 50mm and just have a carbon hull. I don't know that I'd notice much of a difference, but maybe I would. Mostly I'll be riding relatively flat, straight roads, but the group rides go through some twisty mountain roads. Would one corner worse than the other? Also, winds here get pretty bad. A 20mph wind is pretty normal, and the Tour of the Gila last year had 80mph winds on the 1st amature stage (I didn't race, but my GF did and it was very hard on her). I don't expect to encounter winds THAT strong, let alone ride in them, but it illustrates how windy it can get in this region. Would the 50mm profile be better in 20-30mph winds, or would the 1cm difference really make a noticeable difference?

I have used the carbones, but not for any extended period of time.  I really liked them and have heard almost 100% positive reviews from friends who also ride them.  The SRAM wheels are good, but heavy.  Maybe you won't have such a problem because you won't be hitting the hills every day, but they when you are talking momentum, they are a significantly heavier wheel at 2030 a set...versus the 1740 for the carbones.  I think you can get the srams for around 1100 and the carbones for less than a grand.  And to answer your question about the rim depth, yes, you will I would jump to say that you would ABSOLUTELY feel a difference in the wind.  If you think about it, you basically have two wheels with roughly 40 additional square inches of surface area for the wind to hit (assuming cross wind).  At 50 mph that's a pretty good additional force.
