The swim certainly will - only a 300m snake swim. The race is an odd distance though - 300m swim/17.8 bike/2m run. The bike looks flat but it's a false flat out and back course w/ wind always in your face. So you turn around and say I thought I just rode slightly uphill and the wind was in my face on the way out. But it will be fun - my husband and friend are doing it too. So we will have a good time. |

And for those in warm sunny vacation spots - I hope you are having a drink for me. I have recovered mentally from my race on Sat. I just hate not meeting my goals. LOL Anyway - I've had 2 good swims this week and a great bike this morning on the trainer. I have a sprint tri on Sunday - it's going to 80 degrees. Luckily we start very early in the AM. I start OWS lessons next Weds. and will relax a bit with another recovery week before hitting my big 10 day stretch that will include a century and 2 half marathons. Then I think I start the downhill slide to my taper week then the BIG ONE!!!!!! I'm jealous of all the racing you're getting to do Those OWS lessons ought to be a big help. I've been in the same situation you had last Saturday. Bad swim and it all goes to hell because you can't get it out of your head. But hey, that race wasn't your ultimate goal this year, and you learned a lot, so I'd call it a success. |

Champion 5117![]() ![]() Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: Sesh's Group - FULL!serendipity - 2009-04-22 10:06 AM I swam 500 yds in 9:35 this morning, which is the first time I've ever gotten below 2 min/100 yds. Look out, Bill! I'm creeping up on your slow, relaxed, taper week pace. And I passed the guy I was sharing the lane with. It counts even though he was old and paddling along on his back (and not kicking) at the time, right? Sweet! In looking back through your logs, it is amazing how far you've come in such a short time with your swim.

When I got finished and looked at my tire, I asked my husband is that normal to have a big bubble in the tire. I'm so lucky it didn't blow. Fall 2007 1:49:15 This year 1:26:12 I also rode a mountain bike in my last race so my bike time should be much better. :-)
Yikes on that tire! Down to the second with those goals. I like it |

In looking back through your logs, it is amazing how far you've come in such a short time with your swim. Years and years of swimming lessons when I was a kid must be coming back to me. I grew up with the bay in my backyard, so, while it was more goofing around than really swimming, I spent alot of time in the water and I'm comfortable there. It's really just been a fitness thing. After the first few weeks in the pool when my heart was pounding after 2 laps, I thought it would take me much longer to build up any endurance, especially only swimming 2x per week. I don't know why it's happening faster, but I'm not going to analyze to much. I don't want to jinx it. |

Champion 5117![]() ![]() Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: Sesh's Group - FULL!Ok everybody, have a great weekend of training! I'll be heading back up to Memphis for more engagement parties. This time for my room mate from college. I'm hoping to get a run in on Sunday morning, but my hip has been acting like a ***** lately. Feels fine riding the bike or swimming, but running has become torturous. We'll see how that goes. |

Who continues to make me jealous of how many races she's been doing lately. Thanks - I went on an awesome 2 1/2 hr bike ride this morning that had some hills that kicked my butt. So we'll see how my legs are tomorrow. Normally I won't do that kind of ride before a race but this ride was more important for Mooseman than my race tomorrow. :-) I need more of these types of rides. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. It is hot, hot, hot here. High 80s in April. |

After the shin splints and then the rib injury, I was upset, angry and extremely disappointed that my year was starting out like this. I took some time off the let both injuries heal and started again over the weekend. Nice slow run on Saturday was very uneventful (except for my 6 year old son running into me with his bike). No shin pain or anything unusual (except some tight and sore muscles afterwards from lack of use). I also went for a 15 mile bike rid on Sunday with a friend of mine who just got his firt road bike (trek TCT 5000). We wanted to take it slow but the wind really kicked in (25 mph gusts) and made it a real workout. It felt real good to have back to back days with workout. |

It was a small tri and not many people in each age group but I finished 2nd. My friend won her age group and my husband was 3rd. So we were all quite happy. My race report will be up shortly. Have a great week! Nice Race! It is always nice to get some BLING for the shelf. I had a nice easy run this morning and amazingly, with the last 5 days of working out, I lost 4 lbs. I don't think that is a trend that will keep up, but it is nice to drop some weight (it helps with my speed). Bike ride this afternoon and swim tomorrow. Have a great day. |

I've had a very relaxed workout week (good) and eating everything in sight (not good)! I also had my first OWS lesson last night. It went well and I think the practice of getting int he water will be as valuable as anything else. I think I've decided on a sleeveless wetsuit. I just hate the restricted arm movement. Now I just have to come up w/ the funds. :-) |

Expert 684![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Portland, Oregon | Subject: RE: Sesh's Group - FULL!Hey all, Hope training is going well for everyone. I'm gearing up for my first tri on Sunday morning! Wheee. Thought I would post early as I scramble last minute to get everything ready - I am spending the night at a friends who lives closer to the venue, so will have to have it all packed up and ready to rock on Saturday morn. It's a point to point race, which is kinda a pain (don't have a car), so I will be warming up for the day with a 2-3 mile ride between T2 and T1. The goals: 1. Finish 2. Do it in under 2 hrs. Conservatively I think I can easily do: Swim - 9-10 minutes Never swam in my tri suit, so don't know how that is going to affect things. Maybe I should try that today. Bike - 45-55 minutes I'm going to ride the course tomorrow so will have a better idea of time range, i've heard it's a pretty typical oregon roller kind of route with a hill thrown in for good measure. Hills = yuck. So we'll see. Run - 42-45 minutes This is the first unknown. The running is going to be my weakness - I still don't feel strong running at all. So I'm gonna rock it out in jog / walk fashion as needed. The second unknown is transitions... I've decided not to worry about it and just take my time for them. Weather is currently calling for 60% chance of rain and mid-50s, so it could be a cold one (makes me run faster tho Getting excited - and a little bit nervous. Kiri |

We got into a home improvement project that, like all home improvement projects, took longer than we anticipated. But it's done now. Add work craziness and a kid with an ear infection and it's just been one of those weeks. I haven't missed any workouts, although I did have to rearrange some. They haven't been as good as last week, but I haven't been getting enough sleep so that is probably why. |

Champion 5117![]() ![]() Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: Sesh's Group - FULL!So, I went back to Masters Swim this morning. Turns out, they've got a coach now. Much better than just five of us meeting up and figuring out a workout as we go. Although, maybe I should have waited until Thursday. She likes to do a mile swim time trial on the first Tuesday of the month. Not to go too soft, she backed that up with 5x100 kick drills. Sprint the first 50, normal pace the last 50 of each 100. It was the first time I've cramped in my hamstrings while swimming. Hard to believe I'm worried about having recovered legs for my run tomorrow because of a swim I did this morning. |
