Hi BTexans! I am going to ride tomorrow morning but want to get a little outside of the Woodlands (preferrably still on the course) to avoid traffic, etc. Was thinking of driving up to the area around Mile 15 of the course near the golf course. Would this be a good place to go? Was trying to stay within like a 10 mi radius or so of the Woodlands. Thanks!

I think you mean the Woodforest Gold Club on Fish Creek Throughfare. This would be an excellent spot to start from, depending on how long you'd like to ride. You should be able to park there, especially mid-week. Turn right and ride down Fish Creek to the overpass, then head West on FM 2854. It should be fairly low traffic during the day and shoulders are pretty good.

I'm here!

Checked in this morning, got my swag bag (not much) and chillin in the hotel. Will probably go for a treadmill run in a bit or maybe ride the bike around but I'm not familiar with the area and am at the Holiday Inn Express which is a few miles from the course start. I'd rather not risk riding in this afternoon traffic...

Anyways, I've got my basic tools, degreaser, wax, etc if anyone needs anything.

PROTIP: Use the ironing board in your room as a makeshift bike stand. Just put the top tube over the board like you were going to iron it and BAM a hotel bike stand.

On a separate note.... anyone have any tips for putting on a swim cap? I've never worn one and didn't think it would be so awkward. Why am I so awkward? haha Good luck everyone!

I'm getting nervous.

Getting your head/cap wet before makes a 100% difference. Good luck out there on Saturday and be prepared to sweat like you've never sweated before. Cool

90 degrees forecasted with afternoon sun. Winds out of the south 16 mph

I rode the back bit of the road heading back towards town, down Jackson rd.

You guys weren't kidding about that wind.  That's going to suck, hitting it later in the day.

How are you guys applying your number to the bike? Just anywhere on the frame visible from both sides? Hmm... I'm thinking the top tube up front somewhere...

Put both hands (completely open like you're about to give a high-5) inside the swim cap and pull the cap open by seperating your hands.  That will create an opening large enough to fit your head in.  You can adjust everything from there.  Go to the 2-minute mark of this video for a better description -

Tip - Put your goggles on first, then swimcap.  That will prevent your goggles from getting completely knocked off your head during the OWS washing machine.

Thanks for the tips! Just practiced and did a little dance in my room. Hahaha. I look like a space monkey or something. I can't decide which is worse this or the aero helmet...

Were any plans ever made for people meeting up?  Maybe I missed it.  I get a little behind on the new posts sometimes.  My fiance is here with me, but I'm not planning to drag him to the dinner and meeting, but I'd rather not be alone.  It would be great to meet some of you!

No one has officially came up with a meeting spot or some other way to meet up. I'll be there in about an hour. Should I carry around a sign saying "BT"?? Just kidding...kinda.

I'm not even sure how to go about setting up a meeting place or time. I'm just having a bike cleaning party in my room. Bring your bike and your ironing board!

Let's all just wear our swim caps. That should help us stand out.

Grey crossfit shirt, black shorts, black shoes, green TYR swim cap (joking)...

See u guys there. What's up with people being unfriendly?

I've been saying hi to every person I see that might look like a triathlete and most avoid eye contact or try to shy away. I must look like a mean person or something. Anyways.... I'm HUNGRY! The food better be good or I'm goin to Taco Cabana!

If it were socially acceptable, I would eat there everyday.

Hey all,

All checked in and sorting the bags out now.

Just to clarify, we have access to our bikes on Saturday morning. Does this mean that I can bring extra gear / food / drinks on Saturday morning? I'd prefer to have cold drinks and not melted bars on the bike / run.

last year after the race I went to TC before driving to Dallas. I was going to be my first trip back in 10 years, they were out of everything! I got nothing. I'm holding out until Saturday night. And I'm signing up for next year just in case.

enjoy dinner, I'm gonna stay in and watch some hockey/basketball

. Up early for the practice swim.
