| Expert 1146 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: Bob Stocks Group - Closed Bob, thanks man!  Here's the low down: NAME: hrliles / Harold Liles STORY: I am from Raleigh NC. After being in great shape all my life in 2001 I fell prey to plantar fasciitis in BOTH feet, put on 60 pounds over 6-7 years of struggling through it and finally went to another doctor (after doing all procedures including the cut!) One visit and new doc changes my orthotics and August 08 Im off and running. Prior to that, I was a basketball guy. I did track in HS but no real sports other than BB. so I set my sights on a 1/2 Mary in November 08, and have 90 days to train. Opps, feet still ache and doc says light running to start, then 2 weeks before race I break a rib on a motorcycle, and day of race I have a cold....I do the race anyway and finish in 2:45, suc ks huh, but I did it! Then I set my sights on doing IRONMAN and nothing short off it! 09 did several sprints, 2 Oly's, and 2 HIM! IM HOOKED. FAMILY STATUS: Married to Sharon. 3 babies. Colby 6, Morgan 5, and Caroline 3. I absolutely can not get enough of them! 1 Lab, and 1 Yorkie, my house never closes! CURRENT TRAINING: After Beach 2 Battleship November 7th, I relaxed till a few days ago and started winter Maintenance, then I'll start the 20 Week Ironman Plan. THIS YEARS RACES: White Lake 1/2 on 5/1, Ironman Louisville 8/29, and Ironman Augusta 70.3 9/26. A couple of Sprints in between. A full Marathon on 3/21, not even close to ready but I will be! WEIGHT LOSS: I was at 238 when I started in August 08 and now Im down to 214..put on 8 lbs since November doing nothing. Plan is to drop to 185 by August for Ironman Louisville. I love RIBS, I love cheesburgers, I love PIZZA, and I love RIBS! Did I say I love ribs! Oh, I lost my job working for a Community Bank a few months back. After 16 years in banking I was canned (along with several other folks) by a bank that put 40MM in Fannie Mae stock and lost 100% of it, 36% of our Capital, and we almost failed. Oh yea, the guys that suggested we buy the stock, they still have a job! So, trying to get a job in the worst industry, in the worst ever recession is , well, not fun, BUT, I HAVE TRIATHLON TRANING and that releases the negative energy. My wife is a stay at home mom and she kicks me out of the house at 9 so no excuses for not training! so say a prayer for us. | |

| Bob 2194 Binghamton, NY | Subject: RE: Bob Stocks Group - Closed Welcome Harold! You have a pretty busy year planned and it's going to be fun to have you as part of the group. We have a little weight loss contest going until March 31st if you are interested. Just post your weight in your logs and I'll try to remember to update the weights on my blog. BTW - Did you love the swim at B2B? Stay healthy and welcome to the group! |

| Expert 1146 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: Bob Stocks Group - Closed My weight as of today is 214.  By March 31 I plan to be at 204.  By IMKY the plan is be at 185. It looks like a darn great group and I'm honored to be a part of it, again thanks for taking in a straggler! The swim portion (BTW, my weakest leg) was golden. I also did Augusta which was actually a faster current. So basically my 2 HIM's last year were easy swims, thankfully. Next week I start back attacking my weakness, swimming! I had gotten down to 1:58/100 but my goal by IMKY is 1:45/100. Goals and rules are meant to be broken and if Im faster I will not complain, if Im slower I have only this group to blame. What I have to pay close attention to is managing the plantar fasciitis. Stretch 2-3x a day, ice every day, both feet, it's a religion now. H |

| New user 30 | Subject: RE: Bob Stocks Group - Closed Hi there, been busy working the last couple days, double shifts so not much time to get in a walk except by parking my car further from the entrance to the hospital and wandering the halls when not busy to stay walking instead of just sitting around. Dis try a couple of new recipes this week to try to eat healthier as I am a junk food junky, Am off Sun and will walk twice to try and at least make up for a couple I missed. Will get back on the horse as again |

Do you wear anything on your shoes to help keep traction - or have trail shoes? I got some stabilicers from a friend for Christmas I can't wait to try out - but haven't had a chance - we've had so much snow it takes up a good portion of most roads (there is barely room for cars - it isn't safe to run on them) and sidewalks/paths weren't cleared - now that some are it is below zero with -20 windchills . . . schools have been closed the last couple days due to temps alone. Hoping it warms up some so I can do my long run outside tomorrow and try them out! Training day here - and indoors - thanks to our balmy weather! I'm packing up FOOD and clothes to go to masters swim, spin & yoga. I'll add bootcamp if I'm not wiped! Better run or I won't make it! Make it a great day all! P.S. WELCOME HAROLD!! |

I just wear my regular running shoes and go slower. There were some peeps out last week that had some rubber thingy they stretched ocer their soles. They said they worked well. I like running in the snow but the cold wind does nothing for me. After seeing your temps though I might run in shorts and a t-shirt today! Brrrrr! Stay warm and have a great training day! |

I am down to 242 including crappy eating at the hospital, we all come home tommorrow so that should help as the food in my house is much better than what i am eating on the fly. For those interested i have posted new pics to my album of the baby, she is changing everyday and the photos are of the first day. She is down a little in weight, but they say that is normal. |

I took my mother in law out to East Coast Park, rented some moutain bikes, and took a very casual 2hr ride along the beachfront. It was 90 degrees here. Sorry you guys are freezing over there. Also did a moderate 8K run this evening and will do a ~12K run tmr morning followed by some swimming. Enjoy! |

| Bob 2194 Binghamton, NY | Subject: RE: Bob Stocks Group - Closed Don't take this personally Tuffli but I think a good 1/3 of the group hates you AND your 90 degree weather!! 10K is done and the wind wasn't nearly as bad as last week. Knocked 3 minutes off the time from last week and felt great the entire race. I'll get a race report written up today sometime. I tried to run this race going out the first 2 mi lap at a "comfortably hard" pace, back off a little on the effort on the second lap and push a little harder on the last 2 miles. I met up with a guy around the 3 mile mark and just ran at a hard "conversation" pace the last 3 miles. So much for the plan. Here are the splits:

Could it be because I am using a Mac? I'v tried several different images. Thanks in advance. |

They're about 6 hours away . . . Sorry for going missing - I've been trying to fit my training in, mostly between Monday and Friday (morning) so I can leave after work. Just have my long run Sunday to somehow fit in beyond that . . . Bob - this is way late - but WOW!!! You rocked your race - and weren't even "racing" it - I wish I could be so speedy!! I'm really happy I joined master's swim. I found out I was slacking on my own! It is kicking my butt, but Bob, I can see why you say swimming with faster people will help. I'm doing all I can just to keep up with the slow lane. Any thoughts on HOW to improve stroke count? So far the only thing the coach has me focusing on is extending my neck and looking straight down . . . I'll take any swim tips you can throw my way! Ok - off to update my logs - I've been slacking at that (better than slacking at training I suppose) Happy Training All! |

I hope all is well with mom and baby and you got out of there with all of your fingers!! Renee, you will see the most improvement by just continuing to practice with the masters team. Count your strokes, it's a great habit to get into and will definitely help you lower your stroke count. Strengthening the "swimming muscles" by swimming more is also where you are going to see faster times. Are there any specific things you are working on? Sorry I have been a little slow on the posting. It's been a bit busy around here lately. I will be better though. I hope everyone is still hanging in there! | |
