Expert 771 Farmington, MI | Subject: RE: MotorCity Triathlon - Sprint Distance : Official Thread So my husband and kiddo are hopefully coming down to cheer (depending on the weather). A few questions: 1) are they going to be able to get onto the island and parked if they arrive after we start? 2) can they access the garden/zoo area that is somehow related to the detroit zoo during the race (i.e. by car)? (we have detroit zoo membership and it apparently includes free admission to this belle isle park but we've never been there nor have any idea where it might be). 3) what are the ramifications of the red bull air race on traffic home from the race? see you all out there! I'll be the hound looking really really confused.

Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: MotorCity Triathlon - Sprint Distance : Official Thread Red Bull was last weekend. I know it showed it on the 3D site as being this weekend but there was an article on the air races and the results last Monday. The rest of the questions I don't have a clue. |

Extreme Veteran 594 Grosse Pointe Woods | Subject: RE: MotorCity Triathlon - Sprint Distance : Official Thread Sushi, they'll be able to get on the island, but parking will be tough once the bike starts at about 8:20 as they won't be able to cross to get to the big lot. There is some roadway sports as you make your way right around the island, but all the lots are on on the interior and blocked by the bike route (unless you know a member of the DAC and they could park there). Tessie has a great race (SuperKids Tri)! She went slow on the swim versus those who ran in the water as was one of the last kids out. She hammered the bike and by the time they bike was over she'd passed all but one girl. She held her own on the run and ended up 2nd in her AG and, I think, was the 3rd girl overall! I am exhausted after watching her and the rushing to watch my son's LL game (not the best pre-race routine). |

Extreme Veteran 730 Milford, MI | Subject: RE: MotorCity Triathlon - Sprint Distance : Official Thread Does anyone know if they shorted the oly swim? The timing company puts it at about 1490yds and it should have been 1640. If the distance really was short, then I'm really not happy with my swim. Even with getting caught up in all the walkers I don't think my pace should have been as off as what's being reported. |

It looks to me like it was timed for 1500 meters like it should have been (based on the pace per 100 meters). I wore the Garmin 310XT and just upgraded the firmware for improved swim tracking by GPS. It had me at 1.02 miles swam (but that included about 10 yards past the timing mat). |

That makes me feel much better then! When I saw that time I was thinking that all of the effort I've made during the off-season to improve my swim was wasted....but this is actually the best swim pace I've ever had even with the issues I had. |

LOL I think all of the swim times were slower than last year because I am 99.99% sure last year was a water start and not a beach start and since the course was pulled more in shore to eliminate the current, everyone last that added bonus. |

That makes sense, Jon. In viewing my times from last year, though, it appears that I took about 3 minutes off my swim time. That combined with the lack of current and the beach start means I am getting FAST!!! :D |
