Regular 53 The trail capital of Canada | Subject: RE: Muskoka Ironman 70.3 Just got back from Deerhurst. one thing that I found odd was the announcer kept saying this was the inaugural event. I'm 100% sure they ran this last year. I have it on recorded from TSN!!! Of is it that the venue changed to Deerhurst in its entirety for the first time??? Anyway we drove up saturday and stayed in Bracebridge (not a room to be found in Huntsville!!!) Had a great time watching the swim-bike transition. Must have been hard to run uphill all that way after the swim!!! Had a great breakfast in the Elipse restuarant (just got there before the breakfast rush!!) Note If you're spectating, get to the buffet by 10am to beat the rush!! We meet Craig Alexander's host family!! had a great chat with them about Craig, his family and that he really IS as nice as he seems in his interviews!!! Meet Craig's wife briefly before he came in! It was great that his daughter crossed the finish line with him. Unfortunately we didn't stay to meet him ( It was starting to pour rain by then! ) We're definitly going again next year (hopefully the weather is better) best of all there was room at the finish line for me to take this great shot! I really need to get started on my swim training...swimming like a stone isn't conducive to a 1.9km swim ;-) I'll have to aim for next fall! |

| Expert 634 Toronto | Subject: RE: Muskoka Ironman 70.3 Despite the rain (had enough of that at Lake Placid in July) I really enjoyed the race course yesterday. Yes, the hills on both the bike course were a torture. By the 60km bike I was REALLY lookin forward to the end. Within the last 10K I just wanted to rack my bike and not look at it again for a long time. Just when I thought the bike course shredded my legs enough, here comes the rolling hills of the run couse. But, it's all those hills and the challenge of the course that make me love this course. It was fantastic. Finish time 6:36. |

| Extreme Veteran 744 Ontario | Subject: RE: Muskoka Ironman 70.3 I just barely broke 7 hours, and my bike time was about 53 minutes longer than for Steelhead, but I still feel pretty good about my race given the conditions and how tough the course was. Other than the weather it was a great race. The community support was exceptional, the volunteers were great, and the organization was amazing given that this was the first year. The only thing that might stop me from signing up again is the weather. I'm afraid that you have to expect cold or wet conditions fairly often in September in that part of Ontario. |

The good thing about this year's race is that we all got a better understanding of the lay of the land. I also have a pretty good idea of what are the weaknesses/limiters I need to work on throughout the year: weight loss and strength training during the off season and more hill repeats on the run. Next year's time goal: 6:45:00 or better. |

I booked myself a junior 1 bedroom suite with kitchenette at the Sports Villa at the rate of $209/night for a 3 night stay minimum. That excludes the $8 fee and 10% tax. They will hold the equivalent of one night's stay which amounts to $238.70. I am displaying a higher level of enthusiasm for next year's race. I'm wondering why... Cheers! (I had some cramping on the bike and walked way too much on the run, partly because everyone around me was walking ...need to develop some mental toughness for next years race).
