Good morning All. Didn't meet my water goal yesterday (I think about 40-44 oz only). Did today's workout yesterday as well. Too much to do to get ready for christmas today. Plus there is a snow storm again today.

Yesterday - Ran 2.1 miles, Biked 5.4 miles.

I also measured myself today. My body fat is up, I am very sad about that Cry (26.2%). Pathetic.

Today's goal - try for low fat food, and meet the water goal. No workout today.

Happy Sunday all.

Cold day here in North Texas.  That's OK since today is a bike interval day.

Hope to finish shopping.  Just a few little things for mom and some stocking stuffers.

I am really looking forward to getting back to the bike interval plan.  I need to be faster.

Will meet my water goal today too.  Later kids!!

Nice run Zilla.

Ride/Run/Lift yesterday. Got them all in. Hope to do a 60 min ride today. Lots to do though with the hiloday coming up. Will do some shopping this afternoon after I clean the house a bit.

Yesterdays calories: 2610. Before the 6 beers I had at the bar last night. So with the beer it was 3400. Um, totally undid the B/R/L calories I burned. Oh well, I'm giving up alcohol Jan 2 to August 30 (except race days), so I need to get my drinking in now.

Won't be able to post anymore today and maybe not tomorrow either. Happy Sunday.

Bike intervals done for the day!

These hurt more than I hoped they would.  I have no excuses.  I have a plan for the week and I am going to stick to it!

Have to bake cookies now.  I wll allow myself a few but promise not to overindulge!

I just put my marathon registration form in the outgoing mail...guess I'm really going to do it!

HOORAY!

So now, I just have to train.

On deck for today - home with my kids for the start of a 2-week holiday...grocery store, library, the mall to see Santa, and some baking. (With not too much bowl licking!)

And drinking water! I never drink enough water when I'm at home.

Congrats on signing up!!  I still do not have that itch to do a full.  I like all the half distances.  Half marathon, half Ironman.

Start of a nice 3-day week for me.  2 day rally since Wednesday is really just a half day with lunch in the middle!

This weekend was not the best nutrition and hydration wise.  But I too am not good drinking at home. Already filled my water bottle and as soon as my coffee is done, it's water time.

Today is a run day.  It's freezing here so I will either deal with the dreadmill (unlikely) or run the track at the gym.  It is so boring for an hout to go round and round in little circles but it still beats the dreadmill.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Good morning all.

Goal for today - drink 48 oz of water. Would like to go to the gym and get today's workout done (swim 150 yds and run 20 mins.) but with the christmas craziness going on, don't know if I will actually be able to make it. Have to go grocery shopping for christmas dinner and then buy a last minute gift that I forgot all about until I started wrapping up presents last night. Yikes...

Good morning everyone; I consulted with the teachers last night and got permission to join the class.    I look forward to encouraging each other!

A little intro.  I am a couch-to-Ironman-to-couch story, so it is a little depressing.  I started this lifestyle in 2005 at 306 pounds, and completely sedentary.  During 2005 I lost 90 pounds, did several sprints and an oly, and signed up for IMCDA 2006.  I did my first (and only) half mary in January of 2006, then IMCDA in June.  It was one of the happiest days of my life, but also the beginning of a HUGE tailspin that I am still in, 2.5 years later.  I think it was a case of too much too soon because after IMCDA I basically quit exercising.

I tried to make a comeback in 2008, raced 2 sprints, and signed up for Longhorn 70.3, which I withdrew from.  I have now "found" 40 of those 90 pounds, and am in a bit of a funk.  I'm hoping this group will be the right springboard for me to get back into shape and a part of the tri community again.  Steve & Marcy are two of the absolute best people I know, so I couldn't have found a better group!

Goals for now are simple; get some consistency going, lose a couple pounds a week, and have fun in the process.

Good morning everyone. Well I'd like to say my weekend went well training wise. But alas it didn't work out that way. I dont know what it is but sometimes I just cant get the urge to do anything. So i made a big decision this morning. I canceled my cable. No TV for me for the next 4 months. Hopefully that will get me off the freaken couch.

I will be taking the water chalenge today and tonight I will get to the gym and do my swim work-out. I Promise.

Good to have you Brandt!

Goals for the day are to drink 120oz+ water today.  48 is really just the AM quantity for me.

Run tonight, either on the track indoors, or outdoors.  Its only a hour.

Hi! All, Sorry for posting back to back, but I seem to have woken up with too many questions today. I am trying to follow one of the plans I found on this website and have a question regarding the regimen.

When it says x yards of freestyle and x yards of cool down - is it supposed to be back to back, i.e., can I take a break in between or just keep going? What constitutes as a cool down? Any help/advise I can get from anyone would be great appreciated.

Thank you,

Lina.

Hi Lina,

All questions welcome!  Intervals are when you work at a higher intensity for a pre-determined number of minutes or distance. For example, our bike workout yesterday was a 10 minute warm up.  2x5 minute intervals at 90-100%.  (We do ours based on % of max watts because our trainers give that data, but you can also use heart rate as a good indicator).

For your swim, your cool down is usually freestyle, just at a slower pace than you swam your main set.  Yes, it is OK to rest.  The more you swim, the less rest you will have to take.

Oh goodie, two of my best tri friends are mentoring this go round.

2008 was my first tri season, where I completed 4 sprints, including the first time I ever took part in an OWS. I also completed my first marathon and added several half-mary's to my portfolio. I also saw a total drop in weight this year of almost 60 pounds. I have about 40 more to go.

2009 promises to be a busy and fun year.

I live only about four miles from Steve and Marcy, but up till now have only seen them at local races. That has changed this week as Marcy has become my coach and I am looking forward to working with her alot.

Welcome to the group Scott.  Like you I am so looking forward to the 09 season.  Ours is starting on the 3rd with a 10K.  It's at White Rock Lake which is a great place to run for 2 main reasons.  One is that it's flat and two is that our favorite place to eat breakfast is up in that area.

Still working on the water today.   A headache and some reflux keeping me grounded tonight but goal for tomorrow is an early aerobics class and then another round of intervals on the bike tomorrow night.

Now that I put it here, I have to do it.  Can't let my peeps down!

Hi all,

I'm enjoying this group. I like being responsible to other people, it helps me get to where I want to be. That said, I need to take a break for a few days.

My grandfather died today after a long battle with alzheimer's. This horrible disease took him from us 6-8 years ago. He has not been the man I loved in almost a decade, his body betrayed by his mind that gave out. Today was the day of his death, but not the day we lost him. His passing was a blessing. He died with his wife and several of his children and grandchildren with him.

Sorry, I'm rambling, I'm still a bit shaken up. Even though his death was not unexpected it still stings.

With the holidays coming up and my grandfather's funeral after I will not be posting, but please don't think I've abandoned you. I hope to be back soon, but need a few days to mourn and think about other things. If you have a grandparent you have not spoken with in a few weeks, give them a call and wish them a Merry Christmas or other appropriate salutation.

Wishing all of you Happy Holidays.

David, so sorry to hear about the loss of your Grandfather.  Both Steve and I have had to deal with losing a parent and it is a terrible thing.

I am sure you have so many great memories of your Grandfather before the horrible disease took him.  In time, the bad memories begin to fade and it becomes easier to remember the good times.

We are all thinking of you and your family.
