My snowshoeing weekend got washed out. It's almost 50 here. Went for a nice walk/jog 45 minutes. Got caught in a downpour, but had a great time.
I guess it's time to start thinking diet. Years ago I tried South Beach lost weight. Anyone have thoughts on this diet? I know carbs play a huge part in endurance sports, but at my level I would think dropping weight would be more important. The first carb to go I guess should be the beer....

I don't know much about this diet, however, I am a true believer of eating almost anything but in moderation. For me it's about portion control to drop weight....eating lean foods, tons of healthy snacks to make me feel full which helps me from over eating later in the day....at least that's how I lost my previous 20lbs.....I'm kind of stuck now....the last 10-15lbs....
Oh, and don't look at it as a diet....people tend to view diets as temporary and they never last....I call it my Lifestyle Change. And you're right....eliminate or reduce the alcohol and you'll see how quickly you drop weight.

Hello everyone!  Thought I would stop in after logging in swim.  Wow, I have let myself slide the last month or two.  Oh, well, I know I what I have in front of me now...

Anyway, couple more days to 09, so we can hit it hard then...

Sounds like eveyone got some tri toys for Christmas.  The wife bought me a waterproof MP3 player.  It's a nice toy, but I haven't needed one for the last couple years.  However, it's nice on some of the longer swims.  Just enough of a distraction to help pass the time.

BTW, I'm out of the office till 1/5, so I won't be around much, but still check in to log in my workouts.  If you have any questions, feel free to post or PM me.  I'll get to them.

My advice about trainers?  Put them in front of a TV and DVD player.  That's the only way I can stand them.  I can ride outside year round here, so I try to avoid them unless it gets too dark.

That says it all.  I have a wind trainer (read: LOUD), so I crank up the stereo and go at it for however long.  I wonder what my neighbors think...

i had the same problem, i lost the initial 20lbs, then my weight plateaued between 235 and 240, but my waist went from a tight 40 to a comfy 36. I will take inches over pounds anyday!!! But hopefully with a full season ahead of me i will lose another 20lbs.

Ahhhh yes, starting the New Year off right.  Tennis mixed doubles season starts Sunday, tuning up with a round robin get-together Saturday afternoon.

I've managed to keep my weight down this winter.  I weighed in at 204 this morning, up 3-4 lbs, but nothing a week back running won't dissolve.

Woot.

Another snowstorm here in WNY. About a foot plus drifts. Rented some snowshoes for the family to try tomorrow. I went today. First time. Fun workout. Looks like I found a winter activity.

Happy New Year everyone! We get serious tomorrow, right?

All this snow talk makes me glad I'm in the desert.  I can bike and run outside all year long.  Only 60 degrees today and sunny with no wind (I should really try to get on the bike).  HOWEVER, the heat is pretty bad in the summer.

Happy New Year eveyone!

Second page wtf?!?

Happy New Year everyone!  I'm back on the wagon starting tomorrow.  Cycling time trial race on Valentine's Day so training has to start soon...

I'm hoping the new LA Fitness they're building in town will have good rates, and maybe a discount for City employees.  It's about 20 minutes closer to the house than the county aquatic center, and a better facility, from the looks of things.

I joined the LA Fitness here in CT when they first opened up, the rates were fantastic, and the pool is well maintained so far.

I don't think the heat will be nearly as bad in NV as it is in Tampa.  We have the humidity too.  It's so bad it fogs your glasses over and takes your breath away, and the rain...it just steams up like a sauna the minute it hits the asphalt.  I'm definitely looking forward to the dry heat.  (Now ask me in August if I still feel the same way.)

Time trial is just over a month away...

Happy New Year to all of you.

I have had the entire holiday period away from s,b,r and am starting training again today. I feel about 7-8 pounds heavier (haven't checked) and have ate and drank like a pig for nearly two weeks.

I am planning on a long run today which should be fun. Weather is really cold and windy, but I don't mind running in it. Hopefully it will warm up later in the week so I can get out on the bike. I got a few winter tri items of clothing I want to try for Xmas.

Good weekend for me, i met with another BT mentor Bob Stocks, who was in my area and we did a little swim clinic with a few other BT'ers, the experience was well worth the time and travel and meeting other BT'ers is always a bonus!!

OK!  Happy New year everyone!  But lazy time is over......

Let's get this party started...

My goals this year are to finally get to race weight and get FASTER.  The last two years were to get a good base and go long.  Now it's time for speed.

Looking at an Oly or HIM in April.

So, that being said, what is everyone working for this spring/summer.  Do you have a plan yet?

A couple of questions...

1.  What is a time trial?

2. Does everyone use aerobars?  If not, how do you keep your hands from hurting and falling asleep?

I never have done one, but a Bike time trial is a bike race, eveyone leaves about a minute or two apart, and whoever finishes the course fastest, wins.  Done on TT/triathlon bikes (no difference).

Most use earobars, but they are not needed for sure.  Cycling gloves helps me the most with numb hands AND learning to relax them.  I would almost have a white nuckle power grip at first.  No good.  Just relax them and let them rest on the bar.  If it still persists, there is gel bar tape AND you may want to make fit adjustments to take some of you weight off your arms/hands (raise the bars, perhaps)

I read the other day in tri mag, if you ask a triathlete what area they were weakest, what area they they disliked the most, and what area they train the least in, most likely, you would get the same answer for all three... (biking for me).

I had to think about that a little.  I follow a plan almost 24/365, so my time is about 50%/25%/25% (b/r/s).  But I could afford to spend a little more time in the saddle this early season...
