blujay65 - 2009-09-04 7:35 AM Got in a nice little 4.2 mile run today! Yea. Maybe a swim at lunch, that would be nice.

Anyone have any special plans for the weekend?

nice job on the run! We will be headin up north for the weekend..I can't wait! Love it up there. Great trails to run through with the dog...she/we love it, although after the "shuffle" from yesterday not sure how the running will go! But I will enjoy the views.

skrtrnr - 2009-09-03 9:33 AM speaking of swimming....

has anyone read/watched/use the TOTAL IMMERSION materials to work on their swim.

i just started.

im wondered what worked, what didnt, how you liked it, what you didnt like, what you learned?

id love to hear any feedback, positive or negative.

im not 100% sold, but what they suggest makes a lot of sense.

anything to improve.

stacieb

Hi Stacie.  I used TI to completely rework my stroke.  When I started, I swam with my head above the water (that's what I learned in a lifesaving class 40 years ago) and would be out of breath after 25 meters.   My progress was slow, but I will also admit that I did not spend much time doing the drills.   I'm now able to do 1500 meters continuous and am starting to feel much more relaxed in the water.  (I only wish I felt this way on Aug 23 when I did my first triathlon).

I suggest you get the "Feestyle Made Easy" DVD.  If you can work it out, it is probably best to take the TI class and/or find a TI instructor to work with.

Dan

DAN.  thanks so much for the feedback....of the three tri sports, ive found swimming to be the most minute in incremental progress, so i hear ya on the slow progress.

but to go from an out of breath 25 meters to continuous 1500 thats INCREDIBLE progress.

relaxation in the water from everything i read is super duper key.....

thanks for the recommend on the DVD, especially the title of a specific one to choose.  theres just so many swim videos out there, i didnt want to waste my money...

and id love love love to take a TI class or find an instructor...unfortunately neither are in my area.....yet.

again, thanks for the feedback, i really appreciate it!

Keep up the training!

Hi everyone,

I just signed up for the challenge.  Proud to be a Fighting Okra!  But sure hope I don't have to eat any.

This is actually just my first month of training.  I am still walking mostly but have started some intervals of running (probably more jogging!  LOL).  In November & December there are three 5k  in our town.  I would like to do at least one of them and run the whole way.

I am following the "couch to 5k" plan so I should make it.  I am also adding in bike rides, either stationary or my old trusty bike, on some of the "off" days.  When it comes time to really start riding for the tri training, I will have to something about a better bike.

I also work at the YMCA so I will be able to use the pool when I add in the swimming laps -- probably next month.

Love this site!

Woke up to sound of rain this morning! Blahhh.

Had a long ride planned (any length would be good!) I am eating my breakfast right now and then will see what's up in a bit.

Don't mind riding in the rain too much, but don't like hard rain.

Welcome Dee!

Good morning Jen!   It's Sat. evening for me.   We had some nice weather for a change - sunny instead of cloudy/rainy.   I got out for a bike ride late morning and then made it to the pool in the afternoon.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Yea! The rain ended just as I got on the bike. A good ride, albeit quite humid, just over 31 miles.

Hope everyone else is able to get out and enjoy the day!

I got a session done on my bike this morning!  It sprinkled a little on me but not bad enough to curse forgetting my jacket.  I did, however, curse forgetting my shades.  I took a bug to the eyeball.  That'll teach me.

Lazy start to my day.  But this afternoon got in a good  30 session around the lake.  Walk/run - 25/5
2.2 miles - 31 minutes

That is pretty good for me!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend!

Got in a little run, 3.5 miles, in the local Hood. It was nice, if not very humid. Rain is forecast for the whole day so I am happy to have it done.

Hope everyone else is has a great day!

It was raining and blowing here, but I did an interval session on the bike.  Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be a little better.  But it is a holiday so all is good!

Monday is over here.  I got to the pool and had a decent workout.  Always nicer when I can have a lane to myself.
