my .02 on texas city... if you're going to drive there why not just cross the causeway and stay on the island.

That sounds like a good time.  I was looking at a couple of the resort/hotels right on the water.  Might be fun to make a weekend out of it instead of having the hassle of the drive. 

 

I know this sounds ridiculous, but Texas City has a Marriott which will allow me to rack up more reward points!  Not really a big deal, but it was worth looking.

Let's hope the weather won't be anything like it was today.  I was in G-town and thought I'd go take a look.  This will be my first Oly and I was a bit nervous too. After seeing the severe chop in the bayou I'm really nervous.  And then riding into the kind of wind that was blowing today. YIKES!!!

Would suggest you learn to love the wind for this race.
It is rare for a wind free day in the big G.
Have lived there off and on for better part of 50 years and wind is always factor in the Spring.

I know the wind is always blowing in Galveston. I was born there and have always gone there on a regular basis over the years. I just hope its not HONKING like it was yesterday.(10-22mph with gusts up to 26)  Although riding and running with it could be helpful.

For those of you from Houston: 

Are you going to stay down in Galveston on Saturday night or just make the drive down that morning?

Where is everyone else staying?  I'm thinking about Texas City, but I don't want any problems getting onto the island that morning.

Thoughts?



It's my son's birthday that weekend so we're renting a house and making a weekend of it. Headed down Thursday and home on Sunday. My little sprint triathlon is a small part of the bigger festivities.

Thanks, but I made reservations at one of the resorts for the weekend.  My wife and I decided to make the most out of the weekend and really have a blast!

LOL, good to see you guys aren't getting an unfair advantage on us northerners by getting more outside training days.

hmm, wonder how my tri-spoke and disc will do outside now in the 40-50mph winds...

The days I actually train, good. It all those days I don't get to train that stink. At this point I have to hope I'll be ready, though only doing the Oly, instead of going in knowing I'm ready.

So cold and so much rain in Dallas it has been hard to get on the bike.
I have run quite a bit. Actually ran my first marathon at Cowtown.
Sure would be nice to get in an open water swim, but dang it's cold.

This is it. The next couple of days and then one more week to really get ready before starting to taper off. I've pretty much been a total slacker and I'm apparently trying to make up for it with this week and next. Hope everyone else has been more consistent than me!

I've only really been doing the bike and swim training since after the Austin Marathon; so we'll see how that goes. Hopefully some of last year's IM training is still hiding somewhere in the muscles.

smilford... is Stephen (or atleast that's what I (we) know him by)...  Outside of that, all I know is he's fast & polk-a-dotted!

I'm hoping it'll stay wetsuit legal. I haven't swam 1.5k in open water without it.
