JRowe81 - 2009-10-27 7:08 PM Ugh it is barely getting below 35 here right now. Looks Like I am going to have to go running at 4am to get some points early.

It's still warm here in Boston too and I get up at 4:30AM!  This is the first year I am actually looking forward to crappy weather.  Maybe I should have my head examined...lol  4 days to go!!!!

I'm in even tho I'm a wimp.  I already got in a long run in 20* weather this fall and survived.  The last 2 winters were mild so I'm sure we'll get slammed this year.  Glad the challenge doesn't start til 11/1, tho, cuz the snow's 2 feet deep out there right now.

eta: Do only biking/running count or can I count walking to work?  I walked today in a blizzard cuz there's no way I was getting on the roads.

fifthcircle - 2009-10-28 9:55 AM I'm joining in on the "fun". I live in Nebraska, and we have plenty of cold, windy days during the winter. Should be interesting

Welcome in just so you know that if you are a Cornhusker fan you lose 15% of your points just because

If not, carry on

Well, I'm trying not to be a Husker Hater like I have been for the past 10 or so years. I just can't get into the whole "Go Big Red" stuff. I guess it's the years of being a Notre Dame fan..... hopefully that won't get me banned

I just wear the $.99 gloves Target sells -- I have lots of them so they can get washed after every run.  On really cold days I wear my windblocker mittens, but that's pretty rare.

Oh brother......

LOL!

So how about working outside?
My job (main line telecomm tech) takes me outside everyday. I was thinking that I would ONLY allow myself to get points from work if all of these are met:
1) It's a really terrible day.
2) I was carrying my ladder a lot.
3) I would allow myself a MAX of 2hrs for any given day (I work 10hr days).
4) I was unable to get any other workout in that day, including the dog walking.

Sound good?

Nope any activity outside - skiing, snowshoeing, hiking - if the weather is crappy and you are outside it is on!

Did you add your name or do I need to?

BTW - good thing it starts Sunday for us - your little storm you are in the midst of would be worth a few good points!

I  added myself alphabetically.  Yeah, I was hiking around in the snow for 2 hrs yesterday   Don't worry, Sunday we're riding if the snow is gone, otherwise snowshoeing,  but it's supposed to be warm again by then.

Our forecast for Sunday is ...  warm.  That's no good.  I guess I didn't move far enough north.  I wonder if Canada will have me....

well, I"ll have to start next week sometime. Will be in NC on Sunday/Monday - actually running a 5k on Sunday but it will be a balmy mid 70's degrees ... I'll use that memory to carry me thru those sub freezing snowy runs in January

Count me in,  but one question,   Do I get extra points for dragging my fat a** around,  or do I lose points because of the insulation factor?

Having just gotten back into running it'll be nice to one day be able to post a picture of myself running past the finish line instead of the salad bar at Old Country Buffet.

Also, this was a great idea!

I think you're net zero, but by the end of the winter you may need to wear more layers   That's my goal for sure!

Did 4 miles this morning, but it was 42*F with no wind.  Beautiful, sunny morning, but I couldn't help wishing it was colder.  This is what BT has done to me.

Looking at the 10-day forecast, the lowest it's supposed to get is 35 degrees here in Jersey.  It might be a while before I start racking up any points.

Will be a slow start for me on this one.  Am limited to Aqua Jogging due to knee problems.  Hey Bill, one of the pools at the Y is colder than the other.....can I log points if I "jog" in the "cool" pool? Undecided  Hee Hee.  Hopefully will be back outside in another few weeks.
