Just got in. Looks like there is still plenty of room. Wonder if it will sell out?

I am sure it will sell out. It has gone from 800 to 500 available spots in two weeks. I think some people are wavering due to the problems incurred last year, waiting to make sure they are solved which it sounds like they have been. Plus, the economy is probably affecting things as well.

Due to weather, 90% of my bike training has been on the trainer. I'm starting to remember why I said I would never do a 70.3 this early again last Feb !!!!

I am in the same boat, not a lot of cold weather gear, hate riding at night, etc.  Still have 2 months until the race so hopefully some outdoor rides are on the horizon!  Bike needs to go into the shop soon, 1400miles+ on the chain, etc.

I blogged about this subject a while back.  I believe you need to decide if you're going to BE a runner or BE a triathlete.  I choose to BE a triathlete.  Because I'm a triathlete, all of the running races I enter fit into my triathlon training plan.  This means I don't run marathons.  It's difficult to fit  a marathon into a triathlon training plan and perform well at both the marathon and the triathlon.  The longest running race I'll enter is a half marathon.  I have 2 half marathons planned for my build up to NO 70.3.

I am running the marathon and the 70.3. I feel the same, all the running time has cut into my bike time. This is my first marathon. Since, I like triathlons so much this may be a one and done for the marathons.

Nope, not doing it.  I have enough to keep me going with the Mardi Gras Mambo 10k this weekend and T-Gator spring April 11th.

Hi all,
Im planning on doing this as my first ever triathlon and really looking forward to it. Is the water in new orleans warm enough to not wear a wetsuit. I have been teaching myself front crawl however it hasnt been going to well so i am going to do breastroke. From what i have read swimming wetsuits arent really designed with bs and would actually be a hinderance. Would people just recommend doing it in a tri suit then? Also what are the cheapest accomodation option, hoping to come for a week and make a holiday out of it.
many thanks

I agree 100% just signed up for the mary last year for the $50 special rate and made the leap to run again. I plan to take it easy on the mary to allow time for recovery but your right you really have to choose. For me Tri is the ticket, I've hated all the run training this winter (of course it does beat riding the trainer)

I don't do the bstroke but I would think a sleeveless would work well for t.  Get the benefits of a wetsuit but wouldn't interfere with your stroke.  I believe you could do it without a wetsuit but I go by the rule "if it's wetsuit legal I am wearing a wetsuit."

You may also want to post this over on the Iron Distance Training forum.

There is a place just south of Baton Rouge on the way to NO.  Cajun village (or something like that).  A bunch of small shops and a couple of alligators in the back you can watch get fed (one time they let the kids throw the chicken parts over which the kids loved!).  There is a small restaurant there that serves beignets which are pretty good.  Sandwiches there are pretty good also.  Not the same atmosphere as Cafe but good enough.

I was in one of the last waves last year (M45-49).  Yep, it sucked.  Lots of congestion on the bike course.  On the other hand I had lots of cyclist to leagally draft and pass.  The M30-34 and M35-39 are going to be pissed too.  Those fast guys are going to be passing lots of people.

Zia, same group as you (m45-49) and was happy with this years placement.  I can see how the young speedsters are going to be a bit miffed.  Will have to put a "Sorry you had to pass this" on my tail for them ;>

Training is going well and a couple of more long rides and I will be set.
