Keith said it was a national qualifier long ago. Qualifying for nationals isn't big news lol.

Basically every USAT race is a Qualifier for Nationals. The only difference is special qualifiers like Lonestar Olympic this year and your Regional Championship races the top 33% in your AG qualifies for nationals. If you place top 10% in your AG at any USAT certified race you also qualify for nationals.

Also if you get All American or an honourable mention in the rankings you're qualified already.

That would be an incredible "comeback" race for me!!  BTW, just for grins I went and checked the registration for the domain name ironmangalveston.com, and it was reserved in July 2009, but the identity of the owner is listed as "privacy protected"

hmmmmmm

If it is true this race will probably be later in the year as it's highly unlikely that Ironman would make Galveston a 70.3 this year and then turnaround and change it into a Full Ironman just a year later. They have never done that that I know of. Might be a late season race though in addition to the April 70.3? Who knows. Wonder if he'll announce it at next month's Houston Racing Meeting. Hmmm.....

That doesn't necessarily mean anything, a lot of registrars will go through & buy up domain names that are even searched for(like you did). If somebody did the same search back in June/July last year, an automated service could have gone through and snagged it just in case that person came back. It's a seedy practice, but not unheard of.

Not saying you're wrong, just presenting an alternative explanation.

you all are awesome
This is good reading
It'll all become clear in short order.
Rest assured, we never sit back. Always looking to push the envelope with the events.

And, no, Lone Star is not becoming an IM. I've mentioned this before, and I'm sticking to it

I think Lonestar won't be an IM but a new race - IM distance - at the Lonestar venue will be created!

EXACTLY it's setup better for one and it's at a good time of year : ) Although if that turns into a full it would be cool if he had a Saturday Half and Sunday Full. Ironman hasn't done that to my knowledge. I could be completely wrong there though. Anyone? I'm a Half guy, like pushing hard for a shorter distance but it'd be fun to do the half and hangout for the full. I know our athletes would enjoy it.

Well, the info I got was that it was pretty much settled in regards to an Ironman. A major Hospital has signed on to be the title sponsor. The last this person had heard they were looking at Galveston and Conroe, believe it or not. I don't know how much truth there is to all of this(conroe) , but it seemed pretty legit.

Oh, and until I hear the announcement, I'm not buying Keith's comments anymore. He reminds me of the college football coach that says he has no interest in the other coaching job and he just wants to focus on his current team. Then right after the bowl game, whamo! he's gone.

I have a hard time imagining there being an Ironman that close to the time of Kona, at least in the States.

No way. I love Austin, but we just don't have decent venue for an IM. It's pushing it just to get a 1/2 in out at Decker Lake and it would be a logistical nightmare to try and get the permits necessary to do one downtown.

I don't think the announcement is going to be about an IM. The announcement Keith is talking about seems to definitely be about Lonestar and it's definitely not becoming an IM. It's still entirely possible that Keith or someone else is working on a IM in Texas, but it doesn't seem to be what this announcement is about.

If Keith would just spill it already, we could stop the speculation!

I would agree. Even if all this TX gossip is a bust, the only open time in this country is spring. I would think a spring Ironman in a southern state would round out the calendar well.

Nasty.....something like shrimp or crab meat would make more sense being next to the bay and all. Good source of protein going into the run especially if it's a nice hot day. (choke, gang, barf)
