I like to get a feel for the course when I register for a race. I normally search youtube.com to see if there are any videos. I'm not actually looking at the participants as much as I am getting a feel for the surroundings. Here's a few I found. Some of you might be in them.

Seeing those clips made me remember how much fun I had last year.  I can't wait to do it again this year.

I'm not sure about his background, but I see him several times/week at the local Y working out. In office, he's been a coalition builder who's surprisingly competent (surprisingly--Aug is known for choosing incompetent politicians). He was quoted in a local mag saying he liked to work out at the Y because it gave him a chance to get input from lots of different types of people. He takes all the interruptions to his workouts in stride. A nice guy!

kdlsch111 - 2010-05-22 4:20 PM I just saw where the mayor of Augusta will be participating in the event. I thought that was pretty cool. Does he have any kind of tri background? The website said he was being trained by Team in Training starting in May.

Hey folks, I'm signed up for this race as well. I'm at the Fairfield by Mariott. Anyone know how far this hotel actually is from the race festivities? Also, for those of you who did this race last year. I've been looking at last years results and obviously see the fast swim times, but I'm curious as to how much time you think the current actually saved you?

Just about all of the descent hotels in Augusta are no more than 15 - 20 minutes away.

For the swim, last year I swam 23:58 which comes out to 1:08/100 yards which is crazy fast for me.  In daily training I'm around 1:30/100 but couldn't hold that and come out of the water feeling like I did last year.

Anyone know if they are using Gatorade or Powerbar sports drink?  I looked on the website and could not find the answer.  Did they do special needs bags last year?

Last year it was Gatorade Endurance.  There aren't any special needs bags.

I start my second training build of the season on July 1. Coach says lots more long runs/intervals and longer rides, YEA!!
Last year when I was self trained, I loved my 50-70mi rides & 10-12mi runs.
Did a 40mi ride today, heat index was 104, glad the heat breaks around sept 1-15. Last year it was great for the race.
Booked @ the Marriott Downtown for 3 nights as its the place to be. Great Italian place in the lobby with a great pasta toss dinner the night before the race. Augustino's?
Hoping the city gets more into it this year as downtown has a great vibe and could be rockin on race day.
Safe training to all....

Being lucky enough to live in Augusta and train on the course frequently, I thought I'd do a favor for all of you who are coming in from out of town, especially if this is your first Augusta 70.3  I'm thinking about making a video of the bike course.  Someone did this for IMLOU, which I'll be doing in August, and it's been very helpful seeing the course ahead of time since I won't be able to train on it.

So, maybe this weekend I'll drive the course and video it with a narrative pointing out mileages, grades, road condtions, tricky turns, local flavor, etc.  Any requests?

cantucan, sounds like a great idea for out of staters like myself. especially since im coming from florida, i want to make sure that my hill rides in san ann are adequate for the augusta course. i've talked to a few people who have verified this fact for me, but i'd still like to see it in person (prior to driving the course sat afternoon race weekend). thanks in advance if you're going through with the video, i know i'll appreciate it.

Yes, please. I think everyone has a different idea of "rolling hills". I do plan on driving the course the day before, but I would like to make sure my training is adequate for the hills. Of course, living in TN pretty much every ride involves some hills. Still, it would be nice to see the course before I actually show on race weekend.

For anyone in the Augusta area that wants to swim and bike the course tomorrow some of us are meeting at 6:30 AM at the boat house to swim and then bike the course at a moderate pace.  See you there!

I am in.  Driving down from Ohio.  I have been to Augusta before but not sure about the weather that time of year.  I am now training in 80 - 90 degree heat to acclimate myself and get correct sweat rate/hydration needs for Tri.  Any other advice for the event would be appreciated.  It is my first HIM.
Thanks

Signed up this week, even though I'm a bunch of weeks into training for it.  First HIM so I'm pumped.  Like Scott H, also doing NYC Mary a few weeks later so hoping not to kill myself.

Wanting to know if most people that don't live in the area come in on Friday or Saturday and then check out Sunday or Monday?  I'm in Jax, FL so 5.5 hours home with the wife driving isn't out of the question on Sunday.  One day's the same as another for me in terms of work, so I'm just not sure if I should show up Friday and leave Sunday or Show up Saturday and leave Monday.  If I absolutely need to I could show up Friday and stay through Monday, but would rather not take that extra day off.  Thoughts???

Also Hotwire has some good deals on 3*'s in "North Augusta" is this close enough?
