Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nats - 2009-12-18 10:53 AM Good morning and nice to meet you all! This will be a fantastic group lead by two wonderful mentors (from what I've read and been told). I hope to be able to stick around and keep up with our group this time around. The one thing that keeps standing in my way of sticking around is the incredible and ridiculous amount of time I spend writing decent posts and that is because French is my mother tongue, LOL! It certainly makes things a bit challenging on the written English front. This mentoring group will without a doubt be an excellent complement to my coach, my soon to be "real life" mentor (as opposed to virtual) and the triathlon club I belong to. It took over 7 minutes to write that post and two edits... sigh... Hey no sweat!! I would say that you could go ahead and post in French but i think perhaps I might be the only one who could read it! Why not write in French and then just use an online translator? Helen |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK everyone.....I know we all posted "bios" but how about we all write down one short term goal we would like to accomplish in the next 3 weeks or so? I figure we will be generous with a time allowance because the crazy season is soon to be upon us. Baby steps are often the way to get motivated. The goal can be something as simple as drink more water or get to the pool x number of times or some such thing. My short term goal is to try and perfect the art of the flip turn . I really really want to incorporate them . Also....so we can get to know one another better why not get into the habit of signing your posts with your real name? I know lots of you are already doing this. Sound like a plan? |

Remember cold for Texas is 40 something I screw it up.. I can never seem to get my legs warm enough, How many layers do you cold weather people use for outdoor biking, Hey Garrryy... hmmmm... cold weather cycling. That's a good question. At 40*F (about 5*C) it's a good idea to layer up. For me, a pair of long johns, my cycling shorts, my knee warmers (cuts the wind), then a pair of long thermal tights (I think they are running tights but work well on the bike), is what I wear for any temperature under freezing. Above freezing I'd lose the long johns... and lose layers as the temp goes up. Now... this can be different for everyone. If you have a good pair of winter riding pants, it could be different. This is just what works for me. I do notice that my knees are cold sometimes, but that just forces me to work harder to stay warm. I think the most important part of the layering system is the wind barrier. If you can keep the wind from penetrating to the skin, you'll stay much warmer. I wish I could ride with you ... it's too slippery to ride here at the moment... specially on the narrow tires I have. (I don't have a winter beater bike... yet). Hope you have fun riding in the cool temps (40 is NOT that cold). Know what I do? I have a pair of silk long johns that I put under winter weight tights. They add a lot of warmth and almost no bulk at all. And no....I will not tease you about calling 40F cold.........I really WANNA tease you but i will refrain!! ![]() |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() next three weeks? Drink LOTS more water. Get more sleep- at least 7 hours. Hit the weights regularly. And get to the pool at least 2x a week. I haven't been going at all lately - missing masters and everything ![]() Edited by bluwatersoul 2009-12-18 4:15 PM |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lisa O's short term goal (in prgress): I have to think a bit but probably something to do with running. I've got 9 run sessions to do for my December challenge and 13 days so I need to come up with a plan to do that. I'll think about it this evening. aquagirl - 2009-12-18 4:40 PM OK everyone.....I know we all posted "bios" but how about we all write down one short term goal we would like to accomplish in the next 3 weeks or so? Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() One goal before the New Year is to rest my leg and be able to run 1-2 slow miles by Jan 15th. Its starting to feel much better in the last 5-6 days, but I can still tell there is a problem. Would also like to work on my swimming over the next 2-3 weeks while I cant run or bike - I'm thinking 4 days a week with 2-3 days of strength training and a little yoga mixed in for stretching. Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() MRI is Tuesday and the appt with the Dr to review results is next Monday. After that I should have a better idea of how to proceed. I dont think its a situation that will require any rehab - just a naggin injury that needs rest and then a good program to build things back up |

I am Canadian. There is no such thing as timely care here. My friend waited 13 months for her MRI. I only got mine quickly because i sweet talked my buddy at the hospital into getting me in on a cancellation. I work at the hospital. You have lots of time to take care of you injury and build back up. |

Member![]() | ![]() My goal over the next few weeks is to get into an exercise routine. I would like to get four run workouts done every week. Anytime I manage to get in the pool would be great .My time management sucks, and I'm having difficulty convincing myself to work out after the kids are finally in bed. My husband has been working late, so earlier workouts haven't been possible. Angie |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() my goal the next couple of weeks is to do some things that I don't get to do as often as I like during the middle of the year. Most of the courts are shut down around the holidays. So, my plans are to mountain bike, hike, and trail run a lot in the next couple of weeks. After new year, start back with road bike and running. One thing I need to work really hard at is drinking fluids during the day. I pretty much don't do that at all. I really wanted to trail run today because the weather is beautiful. I didn't because I thought it was too soon after the half marathon. How soon is too soon? Let's just say that the farthest run I did before the half was 7 miles and I ran the whole race without walking. Because the race was slightly downhill, my quads were screaming until yesterday. They feel normal today. Thanks. Rebecca |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My goals over the next 3 weeks are to return to activity starting Monday. I am out of any intense exercise for another week but I can get out an plod along a little bit. I look to workout 4 times next week fro approx. 20 minutes with walks on the other days. The following 2 weeks will hopefully see that move to 5 days still at approx. 20 each. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You guys are animals!! I did the sprint in 2007 and drove the 70.3 bike course with my brother. There are some nasty hills!! I'm hoping to do the 70.3 in 2011. I think it would be a bit much to conquer this year. I am planning on being there Sunday to cheer you guys on. I went to watch the 70.3 in 2207 and was blown away at the fitness levels of the racers!! You ring the cowbells for me and I'll be there for you guys on Sunday!! My legs are sore after the walk today, but it's a good kinda sore!! See ya all tomorrow. Chris |

Chris I would love to find out if the hills are as nasty as the ones in Muskoka... That 70.3 bike course is 94 km (over 58.4 miles instead of 56). The first 64 are hilly but the last 30 is just pure torture! Gotta find cowbells... Good night, Nats out! Nathalie Edited by Nats 2009-12-18 10:42 PM |
