Subject: RE: Mark your calendars!sungirl919 - 2010-05-12 3:24 PM As a newbie, I'll ask the professionals---
how on earth will you stay warm on the bike after being in that water? I want to practice with the wetsuit and my transitions, but I do believe I will have to change into a snowsuit, wool hat, mittens, and long underwear (not in that order) for the bike in order to keep my body warm!!! What are your tricks? Being experienced in doing it the WRONG way - i'll offer up what I learned from my mistakes. Non vented soles in the shoes are in order (if you have an option ) Wear socks - water wicking. If you have shoe covers you could wear them. I don't have any and wouldn't in a tri so I don't. If it is really cold some gloves would be good. - I actually go for loose fitting disposable biodegradeble cloth gardening/work gloves. - that way it is easy to get them on and off and if need be you can jettison them. I do not cover my legs ever in a race but if i enter another cold race i would have a shirt ready. The energy saved from freezing is well worth the time to put it on. because this is a training ride I may slip tights on over my tri shorts. I will most assuredly wear a biking shirt - short sleeve, half zipper, rear pockets. i may wear a more substantial shirt. i will stick cotton in my ears. if you are riding hard - you don't notice the cold other than ears, toes and fingers I have found. |
