I've had 2 knee surgeries while I was a swimmer in college so I'm just here to slowly get into running. Also wanting to lose a few pounds along the way. coolness! being a former swimmer (Me too!) will give you a great advantage in tri's! Welcome! John |

Member 64 | Subject: RE: Aggressive Couch-to-5k Training Group Well, this being a week 4 it was not easy nor pleasant. It felt like I got to the limit of my energy reserves and had to sleep extra and eat extra. (that I didn't count on) I wonder how the week 5 will go since it's all more minutes from this week... Anyhow, I kept it up, so I am happy about that. PS: NEED MORE FOOD! |

Keep a food log and post it up, and we can help with any glaring problems. But yes, rest becomes king. :D John |

You will adapt over time, and every few weeks you should have a break where your volume goes down to allow your body to absorb all your hard training and recover. |

Member 106 | Subject: RE: Aggressive Couch-to-5k Training Group So I'm about 2 weeks into training... woke up to a swollen knee this morning, most likely due to the weather. I can tell when it's going to rain thanks to my knees LOL. I did get a little frustrated with not being able to go to spin class this morning, but decided to take today off so I can put 100% into tomorrow's workout. |

As you get used to the training, it's best to err on the side of caution while you learn what your body can handle. When in doubt, REST! |

New user 43 Valencia, CA | Subject: RE: Aggressive Couch-to-5k Training Group I totally agree with the idea that races are the best motivation. My first 5k race is in 10 days and there is no way I don't skip training days in the last 4 months without the hammer of the race hanging over my head. Never would of completed the program without the hammer/carrot of a race out there. |

One of the first things I learned on BT (early last year) was if I thought I was going to do a race - pay for it now and take advantage of early registration...unless things go REALLY bad...you'll be sure to do the race! |

Member 64 | Subject: RE: Aggressive Couch-to-5k Training Group I actually watched what I ate for couple of days and I think my main problem was skipping the meals alltogether... So, I now try to eat more times a day... It helps with the training part too... I did some carbs prior and right after excercise (before my main meal deal) and I didn't feel at all like I was going to fall over and not get up etc. I also discovered (finally) what time of the day Master Swimmer people come to our pool. I understand that there is a coach who can teach me freestyle. YAY! (Oh, they meet at 5:30a.m. - in an outside pool, that should be fuuuuun!) |

Kind of spotty running the past couple of weeks due to illness, but i feel good. i have noticed that at this point, i need to ignore heart rate. I totally don't mind starting the thread, but you probably won't see much activity there. I would love to have you chime in here, though! |

29 | Subject: RE: Aggressive Couch-to-5k Training Group Hello all My name is Mike and I stumbled on this site about 2 months ago. I just got back into working out regularly and want to get into sprint tri shape for next spring. So far i have just been lifting and cycling but am starting the run program this week since distance running has always been a weekness of mine so any suggestions would be great. Once i get through this I will start swimming. Wish me luck!!! |

Once i get through this I will start swimming. Wish me luck!!! Welcome to BT! Congrats on taking on the challenge of triathlon training! You are on the right track. You have all winter to improve your fitness and you will be amazed at how much better you can get in all three disciplines with some consistency. Consistent training is the most important thing you can do...follow the plan and you will succeed! As you get more comfortable with this plan, maybe a month into it, you can try adding in some swimming. Go look at the beginner sprint plans and pick a few swim workouts or bike workouts from there to try out. That way you will know what to expect when you start your triathlon plan. |

Member 106 | Subject: RE: Aggressive Couch-to-5k Training Group Okay so complicated question. I've been doing the program where I build up the running time throughout the week. So Day 1 will be 8min walk 2min run three times. Day 2 is 12min walk 3min run two times. For day 3 should I save the running for the beginning, middle, or end? I'm leaning towards the end and then having a good warm down - but I wanted to know what you all thought or have done? ~Melinda |
