Very very flat run and bike, expect a slight incline on the swim...Good Luck! |

Champion 5117 Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: Ochsner Ironman New Orleans 70.3 : Official Thread ransick - 2011-03-08 7:28 AM We are staying at the Intercontinental on St. Charles Ave. Any restaurant recommendations would be appreciated. Also anything for the family to go see while I'm checking out the course Friday and Saturday would be appreciated. My favorite lunch's are Deanies in the Quarter (fried seafood and cold Abita) and Cafe Maspero (poboys and a dang good muffaletta). The oyster bar at Felix's is awesome. Stand up only and they shuck them right in front of you. You can also do lunch at some of the finer dining places (Commander's Palace for example), for a heck of a lot cheaper than dinner. Most of them do price fixe thing and have really, really cheap cocktail specials. Note: I mention Commander's for a reason. Some might say it's a touristy and whatever, but any place that boasts Emeril and Paul Prudhome as past executive chefs is going to be amazing. My parents just took me down there for my birthday and it was honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. There's usually around a $20 appetizer and entree' lunch with 25 cent martinis. Dinner is pricey, pricey, pricey, but it was a dining experience I won't ever forget. As for the family, I love the aquarium. I feel like I've watched the white alligator grow up. Haven't been to the zoo in ages, but it was always fun as a kid. They've opened a new Insectarium on Canal, but I haven't made it in yet. A Katrina exhibit just opened next to the Cathedral in Jackson Square. Went through it a few weeks ago and found it really interesting. They can always hop the St. Charles street car and just ride. Veteran 867 Vicksburg | Subject: RE: Ochsner Ironman New Orleans 70.3 : Official Thread My daughter loves the Insectarium. NO has a very good zoo and the Imax is right next to the aquarium. There are so many places to eat that are good it will make your head spin. I have always wanted to visit the WWII museum but I have young kids and I don't think they would enjoy it very much. |

Master 2484 St. Louis | Subject: RE: Ochsner Ironman New Orleans 70.3 : Official Thread 5 weeks from tomorrow! Everyone have their nutrition dialed in? I'm working on mine, this will be my first HIM. I'm trying to decide about adding some salt. I'm a heavy sweater, about 24 ounces per hour in cool weather, and have salt caked on my face and clothes after long workouts. I did a long brick today and my calories seemed fine and didn't have major cramping but had salt caked on my face and jacket (as usual). |

Have an Olympic in 2 weeks then i can focus on NO. I sweat pretty good too and take S Caps. Usually 2 per hour. There are many brands on the market, I just like these. http://www.succeedscaps.com/main_scaps.html enjoy, Duane |

Veteran 867 Vicksburg | Subject: RE: Ochsner Ironman New Orleans 70.3 : Official Thread New Orleans will be my third half to do and I am using it as a B race to get prepared for IMUSA in July. I found taking in b/w 250-300 calories per hour works well for me. I keep it simple and use GE or what the will be serving (Perform) and shot blocks. My main goal for this course is the PR the run course. |

On another note... hopped in Pontchartrain the other day. Conditions were good, temp around 64 degrees and decent visibility... hopefully we'll have good conditions for the swim this year. |

Regular 298 | Subject: RE: Ochsner Ironman New Orleans 70.3 : Official Thread The weather is warming up down here. I ran today and it was pretty hot. The crazy thing is the humidity has not kicked in yet. Make sure you have extra electrolyte tablets/pills with you. GaryRm you know where I am coming from. Make sure you are ready for a non wetsuit legal swim. The lake temps have come up two degrees in two days. At this rate I will be surprised if the swim is wetsuit legal. USAT's new ruling is 76 degrees or below.
If anyone needs help with bike transport let me know. I will be in New Orleans starting Friday afternoon. Shoot me a pm for contact info. Enjoy The race and embrace the pain! Jason |

You would be surprised if the swim is wetsuit legal? I don't see that lake hitting 76 degrees by race time. |

You would be surprised if the swim is wetsuit legal? I don't see that lake hitting 76 degrees by race time. I am not sure where you were going with you comment but you appear to be located in Dallas, Tx? Correct me if I am wrong, please do. We have had consistent high temps. in the 80s. I have been watching the Lake P water temps daily. I have seen them rise pretty quickly. Not to mention I was stationed on Lake P for three years with the U.S. Coast Guard. I have Lake do some pretty sporadic things. I hope the swim is wetsuit legal. Sounds to me like you are not prepared for a 1.2 mile swim minus a wetsuit. If the race is wetsuit legal, I will buy you beer after the race. NOAA is reporting a water temp of 73.2 Lumncon is reporting a water temp of 76.4 Wow look at that the water temp is over 76.1 degrees, INTERESTING! I have attached two links associated with the water temps in Lake P as of today. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=nwcl1 http://weather.lumcon.edu/stationdata.asp?stationid=103
