I just think that there is now way there are more 'bullies' or 'bad drivers' in SUV's than any other kind of car. I beleive that perception starts with the individual's preconceived notion. If you hate SUV's you are going to say 'look, here comes one of those SUV idiots', then scrutinze EVERYTHING they do. Whereas the 'idiot' in the Subaru Outback gets a pass, because you like their car.
On the contrary, I normally don't see SUV drivers prior to being nearly run off the road by them.
There was an article in the New Yorker a year or so ago about the marketing analysis for catering to an SUV driver, something about how to communicate with the "primal mind" of the consumer. What I remember about the SUV drivers profile was "very concerned about how others view them" and "insecure". Not that all SUV drivers fit this profile, but they're successfully selling SUVs by playing to image concerns and insecurities. |
