Tip #4

T1 and T2

After I watched this video I learned something new to try...never though of keeping the googles and swim cap in the sleeve of the wet suit. Thats why I love this sport always learning...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brHcsqKM_mo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH6Bc3kiVGM

I also will practice these at least once a month ( I also do a "clinic" for our tri club on transitions for new people in the spring time ( so if you live in ontario and feel like making a road trip I`II let you know when).
Go to a school near by and you can use there bike rack or have your kid hold your bike.
Running while mounting your bike is easier then you think as well, after 6 tries in practice you will get it. I almost always pass 5 to 6 people who have stopped to mount during a race. Not stopping while dismounting you will pass people as well so practice swinging your leg over the back like he shows.
If your new to wet suits make sure you practice removing it quickly. This is something you can practice at home. When I bought my 1st wetsuit I would put it on upstairs in my room then run around the house for a few minutes then take it off, repeating this a few time a week all the while getting funny looks from my kids.
Have Fun

Thanks Mike, I just looked one up online and it looks interesting.  My mountain bike has the seat post backwards to help put my seat as forwards as possible, which is kinda the same as a forward seat post I guess   I will probably have a profession fit done in a week or two and hope that will help.

I ran with the Garmin 305 today and came back and downloaded to computer. I like it. I ran slow due to the pulled muscle but I didn't care, it felt great to be out there and with my new doodad on I felt like a kid with a  toy.

Come on Ken go for the 9.0 series    they have one of 9.0 down at our bike store...awsome....7.0 IMO you can never go wrong with any trek, all will depend on what you want to spend dollar wise. Mine is the Look 496 and my road bike a 2002 trek.

Weekend was good, wrestling season is winding down, regionals was this weekend, state is coming up in 4 days.  When that is over, will be able to get on the bike again.  Sort of beat up from wrestling for the last 2 months, but it has been good for strength training and conditioning.  Getting over that thigh injury, it took much more time than I though it would.

I pulled the trigger on the Trek Speed Concept 7.0.  Can't wait to give the bike a go once the weather breaks.  I am waiting for my friend to fit the bike for me.

Now I am training for the Boston Marathon so I am mostly following my training program for the Marathon.  I am registered for a sprint distance May 15th and the Rev 3 Half Distance on 9/11.  Should be a fun year.

My week has suffered a setback- I caught the flu. Initially, I thought it was from the 35km recon ride that I made last Saturday and maybe smelt some funny things via cows and farms etc, then, the chills came last Sunday evening... I had a feelin something was up but then it disappeared. I did manage to go to school but by Tuesday - I just couldn't take it anymore. With my head/ body temp burning at C39degrees, I knew I had to stop. My doc confirmed that it was flu and she gave me 3 days rest and recovery. Now, my temp is back to normal, however, my throat is still 'croaky'. I think come Sunday, I'll be back to normal both in the body temp and in the functionality of my muscles. The body and bone aches - it's so different to the colds that I have experienced in the past and being mostly health last year... it's a relief now to get through this. At least I can now look forward to riding my new Pinarello Naked FP2 this coming week! My motivation to continue hasn't stopped.

I don't take much vitamins as of yet, however... is it recommended? I do eat a lot of fruit though - oranges and apples etc.  Nate... sorry to change the topic a bit ....

What I do want to know is, mentally, what goes through in a triathlete's mind? I remember my first Enticer last year and all I remember was ".... must keep going... what am I doing swimming this length? How can I catch my breath?...What chants should I be saying? Oh yeah... I start to thinki of the little red caboose - I think I can, I think I can, I think I can... "

I wonder what other fellow triathletes think about during the race?

as for vitamins, its highly recommend to at least take a mulity vitamin once a day, even if you eat perfectly everyday you cant get everything your body needs. Heres the list of mine:
- 1000mg D in the winter months
- milti vitamin daily
- extrem endurance daily - helps reduce the lactic acid buildup
- Asta FX daily - helps cardio funtion - jury is still out on this one though.

What has gone though my mind during a race...everything from..."GET OUT OF WATER NOW YOUR GONA DROWN" lol (my first tri swim didnt go so well...I stayed the water though) to " this is awsome your flying on this bike".
Over the 3 years Ive been racing every thought you can think both good and bad have gone in and out of my mind. But I have learned to let those "bad" thoughs to leave quickly and replace them with a possitive one asap. I believe thats the real trick as even the pros will have the "bad" kind of thoughs. It`s how you deal with them when they pop in.
While swimming I just think about getting to the next boey...not a great swimmer so I have always kept this as my swim mantra, "wheres the next one, get to it" and I repeat this at each boey.

Good morning everyone, it's a beautiful day in Houston and I have 40mi bike ride scheduled as per my training plan. I just got aerobars and a forward design seatpost on my road bike so I'm excited to see how it feels. My groin pull is getting better slowly... I have been using my new heart monitor and running in my target zone instead of just going out and running fast and hoping to get better. I feel like there is a method to the madness now and the running feels good, not like punishment. Well, time to get going and good luck to all.

Got my Trek 7.0 fitted today.  Took close to 3 hours.  I was amazed at all of the detail that goes into a fitting.  So much to learn.

Have been scraping together some cash for a road bike, just can't afford a tri bike this year - next year I have my eye on a  Jamis Xenith or Comet (I love their mountain bikes).  Anyway, I am not a road bike guy and want some valid opinions on a good solid bike for around 650 to 700 bucks.  I am looking at the Motobecane Vent Noir.  I just have not found anything that specs out to what this bike has for what I can afford right now.  I want something to ride hard for a year that I can learn to ride on the road.  Wrestling season is finally over so nNext week - SWIMMING finally

Wow. I am so jealous. Another 3 or 4 inches of snow today. Still on a spinning bike but spring is right around the corner, I hope. Enjoy your rides Mike! I too bought a HR monitor a few weeks ago and try to keep my runs at 80%, its going really well.  The running group I joined do a tempo run and he said after a couple months of monitoring my HR I will have to run faster to get my HR up to 80%, good to know. Take care, Kevin

Hello Nate. I was wondering what you thinkl of the Cervelo P2, Im thinking of upgrading. I have a Trek 7.5 FX, added 700x23 tires and drop down handlebars. I`ve put about 10000 km. on this bike in three years. I love Trek , maybe the speed concept 7.0 would be a better choice. Thanks, Kevin

Hey Kevin, I prefer Trek, when I was bike shopping last I looked at the P2 and P3 but wasn`t really impressed. Still waiting for Ken to post some pics of his new 7.0.

How was everyones weekend, I spent almost 3 hours on the bike on saturday, followed by a run...Sunday was long as well, 2 hr run with 38min on the bike....legs were toast
