I made it once to the gym on time and one time late.  so it is a 50% improvement.

Glad to see everyone sticking to their goals.  Keep it up.

One training sick,  I will swim some at very low intensity and it seems to help clear me out. but i typically dont bike especially if it settled in my chest.  Train smart a few days off will not hurt but if you relapse into more sickness and take a week or more it will be noticed.

Made it outside for a ride Monday, planning on riding the course of my first tri of the season (3 wks) with tri group Sat., and it sounds like the tri group is doing an OWS Sunday which I said I would go to.  Might take MTB along and ride trails before we swim because there is some great singletrack near the lake.  So hopefully getting 3 days of biking in!

Still have not got that outdoor ride in - did swim today though which was good!  Tomorrow is a 5 or so mile run (morning) and maybe, if nice, the bike ride in the evening.  Pretty happy with the week so far!

Hope everyone is having a good one!

Man, crazy week! I promise I'll get back on here after this weekend... Why do teachers assign problems that take five hours just to get it half done??? (breathe in, breathe out, ok rant over Laughing)

And I'm going to have to go back to the orthopedic surgeon; turns out I might need surgery again :P

Erica - I hope you have a full and speedy recovery. Let us know what the doc says!

Melanie - glad you had a blast training this weekend!

Dave - good job making it to the gym on time. Hopefully you get to use your runs to explore a bit. A change of scenery can be pretty refreshing!

Melanie - did you make it out for the OWS?

Elena - those runs are looking good! Planning on mixing any longer ones in there?

I had a GREAT weekend at St. Anthony's Tri. My knee held up just fine I'm working on a race report.

So, this week, what is your favorite athletic activity outside of swim/bike/run?

I'm finally back to working out, still a little weak from being sick and I still have a some pressure/stuffy nose.

As for athletic activities my favorites are Football and basketball. I had to cut back on basketball quite a bit as I am scared to hurt my knee while I am in training.

So, this week, what is your favorite athletic activity outside of swim/bike/run?

Ice hockey (I am a goalie) and Tae Kwon Do (I am a red belt, gradually working toward my black belt) are my favorite non-triathlon athletic activities.  And kayaking, too.

I didn't make the OWS this weekend because somehow I got the schedule mixed up.  I thought the swim was Sunday when in fact it was Saturday. Cry  DUH!!

Glad to hear your knee cooperated for your tri, Elaine!  Did you do a race report?

melbel1038 - 2011-05-01 11:11 AM Hey I hope everyone is having a good weekend.  I still have to add you all as friends on my thingy so I can inspire you.  Just have not had time to go back through the names.  How was everyone's training this weekend?  Mine was the best it's been in a week.  Really feeling lots better. Yesterday ran 6 miles, today ran through the official course on my upcoming sprint. It's a backwards race so we did it backwards.  A fun exercise.  Now I'm home being lazy.

How do you add friends and inspire?  I was wondering how to do it.

Thanks!

Go to your training log and scroll down, on the left you will see your friends and a plus mark in top right. Click the plus and then add the names to the list. Once y'all are friends you can go to their log and see the workouts which will provide you with the option to inspire.

Hey, everyone.  I hope your last week/weekend was better than mine.  Being sick and inches of rain everyday=little training. Hopefully this week will be better.

Outside of triathlon, I'll play anything. I'm playing on an over 30 soccer team. I like to golf and play tennis, but I don't get to do it very often. I think I would love to surf, but there isn't much opportunity to do so in Western PA. Smile

back from my trip,  I just thought I was running somewhere else.  put in 39 hours in 2 1/2 days building a new challenge course for a kids camp.  I hurt in muscles I did not know existed.

Have our first open Water Swim tomarrow at 5:30.  have a great finish to the week.

How has everyone's week been? Anyone racing this weekend?

My week has been good. Got to the root of the IT Band problem - weak outer leg muscles means my right knee bends inside when I run! This weekend, I'm doing an ocean mile race right here in Ft. Lauderdale.

Looks like everyone is getting in some good training time.  I think my allergies knocked me down more than I thought.  I am back at the gym ontime and feeling good again in the morning.  ready to take off.

Does anyone have a race coming up soon?

4 weeks for me.

Elaine - wow, glad you got to the bottom of the IT band issue.  Are you getting PT to work on strengthening the outer leg muscles?

Ken - Mexico...sounds fun!!

Dave - my first race of the season is in a little less than 2 weeks (May 21).

Hope our members who haven't posted much lately aren't posting because they are busy getting in some quality training time!

OK, I have a running training question:  I haven't done any running of any significant duration since January because of knee issues.  I have a sprint tri in 2 weeks (need to run 5K) and an Olympic distance tri in 4 weeks (10K run).  Any suggestions how to safely try to get some running in prior to the races?  I'm considering doing the Galloway Method for the 10K especially.  What might be a 'safe' distance to re-start at?  Note:  Before my injury I generally didn't run > 5K at a time.
