feel free to vent on me if you need to as you embark on this crazy journey - INWI will be my 5th IM and each time I reach the 100 mile point in the bike I ask myself 'what were you thinking' - it would be cool race week to have a BT rally!

BadgerIronMan - 2005-11-25 6:30 PM Steve....IMAZ???? I thought you were doing an "unstructured" race season...

LOL.  Can you say "addict"?

Actually I picked IMAZ because I won a free entry into any IMNA race and I didn't want to deal with another long build-up for a late 06 or 07 race so I figured, I'll just come off my large base from IMWI, train up for 3-4 months, do another IM and call it a day.  Plus, it'll be the beginning of the season and I'll be ready to rock and roll with an Ironman fitness.

I did have to negotiate with my wife on this and also promised her I wouldn't go crazy on the training like I did for IMWI.  I'm doing a very quick 3 month build-up then taper then race.  So it'll be over before she (and I too I suppose) even knows it started.

My trng schedule is basic, consistent, and just something to get me across the finish line.

I'll be going into IMAZ with no expectations but to enjoy being treated like a Rock Star yet once again!

I've ran serveral marathons, competed in more triathlons that I can count, and 1 half IM, but this will be first attempt at the Big Daddy (Canada Ironman) in August. I'm motivated, but I have couple questions for you veterans. What are the rookie mistakes that I should avoid in training for the race? Where do you find the time to train? What is the most important thing to focus on? Thanks

For the 1/2 IMs I do, I take Perpetum by Hammer Gel. It's a powder and you mix it with water. It lasted me throughout the whole race. Plus I ate a protein bar on the bike & some power bites on the run. Everything worked great for me.
