A bit late to the game, sorry...

Name:  Davide

Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Silicon Valley.  Yeah, I'm a computer geek)

First Ironman (if no, how many):  Nope, but not too far off being this my second IM (did IMCDA last year)

Why did you sign up?: I've done the Vineman 70.3 two years in a row and I was curious to see how it would feel like doing it twice in a row without a one year recovery in the middle Laughing

What questions do you have:  None, I'm kind of a "veteran" of  the half distance...

What is your goal?:  Hoping to go sub 12, which should be doable considering that I have done IMCDA in 12:17, but I had to spend 25 min in the warming tent due to severe hypothermia after the swim (but I could still have to spend 25 min in the cooling tent due to heatstroke Frown)

Regarding my training, I'm a bit late in that dept as well.  I started to do some serious training only in March and I'm behind especially with my run due to a sprained ankle (never play soccer with your kids while training for an IM Tongue out).  Here are my March stats:

Bike:31h 29m  - 547.24 Mi
Run:16h 26m  - 95.37 Mi
Swim:10h 40m  - 35550 M
Strength:4h 35m

 Happy training everyone!

Your March looks great!  If you build a bit more and train smart you shouldn't have any problem breaking 12 hours.

Thanks!  Unfortunately I'm not very smart when I'm not training... [see the ankle accident ]

Anybody looking for accommodations?  We've got a rental within walking distance to the start (just the other side of the river) and due to unforeseen circumstances some friends won't be joining us this year.  I can send more info/pics/cost/etc. if anybody is interested.  You can check our blog for our write up of Vineman 2011 if you want to get a sense of what we'd be like as housemates...  Vineman 2011   PM if interested! thanks, Kris and Mindy

Right before submitting this post, my wife told me she has pricing/dates/info on Facebook- Vineman Rental Event

Dang.  I'm the opposite.  I have three more weeks until the kids get out to bike my rear off.

April totals for me...a bit off from my target as I ended up doing an Olympic distance race, so I tapered for 6 days prior and was out sick a few days.

I'm doing the Auburn Triathlon on May 20 as a "prep race" for the Vineman. It's dubbed "World's Toughest Half." It's in the greater Sacramento, CA area. About 6000 feet of climbing on the bike and looks like the run has about 800 to 1000 feet of elevation gain and decent.

Anyone else doing it?

April:

Swim: 21,000 yards / 6:37

Bike: 376 miles / 19:45

Run: 109 miles / 13:44

Swim:28200 Yd

Missed a couple swims, but here are my numbers for April:

Swim: 7.1 hours/24200 yds

Bike: 21 hours/335.9 miles

Run: 15.6 hours/101.9 miles

Seeing all your hours always makes me a bit intimidated and nervous. I just have to remember this is my training plan and stick to that.

Hope everybody else is doing well!! 13 weeks to race day!

Next month I need:

Bike: 600+

Run:160

Swim: 15000

Well, here are the actual numbers:

April's totals:
Bike:28h 40m 22s  - 475.86 Mi
Run:26h 38m 25s  - 175.02 Mi
Swim:4h 15m 24s  - 12700 M

I forgot that I was taking the girls camping for spring break and that cost me one week of biking and swimming.  The rest of the month was pretty good.

Definitely behind schedule:

Swim: 9200 (OMG!  SOOO Bad!  Must get my azz to the pool!)

Bike: 332 (some good, hard riding in there)

Run: 70.2 (doing all right.  Just need to ramp up the volume)

I hosted a bachelorette party last weekend, so there was a weekend of zero training (unless you count penis ring toss, pin the macho on the man and drinking), so I'm okay with this.  Looking forward to a big May!

Great numbers everyone!  Keep going strong!

My numbers are the following:

Bike:40h 12m  - 661.6 Mi
Run:17h 39m  - 120.8 Mi
Swim:15h 41m  - 53900 M

Most of my "running" has been either on the elliptical or in the pool (deep water running) because of a lingering tendinitis on my left ankle, so the mileage has been extrapolated based on a 8:30 m/mi pace assumption.  The swim is a bit inflated because of the lack of real running.  Hope to rebalance next month...

@obohlman: I did Auburn a couple of years back.  It's a nice and challenging race, excellent as a prep race *IF* you don't hammer the hills.  There is plenty of them, and some are nasty steep.  The run is a bit boring (3 loops), but the scenery is very nice, especially the descent in the American River Canyon.  Have fun!

April...

Bike:  449.22 Mi - 28h 33m 45s

Run:  109.09 Mi - 15h 22m 40s

Swim:  23800 Yd - 6h 53m 27s

Goals were 440 bike, 110 run, 21500 swim...got in an extra swim tonight that swapped in for what would normally have been a 7.5 mile bike commute leg.

Run is strictly in maintenance mode after running LA Marathon in mid-March; I'll start ramping that up again in about 3 weeks, but I PR'ed at 10K this month (by a lot, actually), so run fitness is the least of my concerns right now.  Long sessions on swim and bike this month were 3600 SCY nonstop (2.05 mi) and 84 miles (just over 5 hrs).  Expect to get up to 100 on the bike three weeks from now and then back off a couple weeks while I start to seriously rebuild my long runs.

April's totals:
Bike:30h 02m 42s  - 478.63 Mi
Run:9h 55m 33s  - 58.04 Mi
Swim:9h 13m  - 28481.19 Yd

Well, as you can see, my run is still way behind, but I am running, so that is an improvement.  Biking is OK.  Doug moved my swim to maintenance mode (2 swims one week, 1 swim the next week), so I've had to up the distance on them.

Swim will pick up this month with joining a masters group.  Can't believe I missed hitting 100 miles running by .84 miles.  I like round numbers.  Oh well, I'll pay better attention next time.

Monthly totals:
S:  18055.68 Yd - 6h 09m 23s
B:  488.43 Mi - 26h 51m 30s
R:  99.16 Mi - 18h 05m 35s

@Davide - Thanks for the comments on the Auburn Tri...I also read your race report, hope that clean water that you drank at least tasted good! I've been working hills pretty hard on both my bike and run sessions, but I think doing 6k feet of climbing over the 56 miles will be insane nevertheless!

Speaking of insane...your April numbers are just that...I think all of my training hours combined equal just your bike hours! Well done!

If you are still doing Wildflower this weekend best of luck to you!

Thanks!  I'm just reusing the same training plan I used last year for IMCDA.  It served me quite well, so no reason to change...

Don't be so humble, you're putting out quite some volume as well.  Just like everybody else on this thread!

If you are still doing Wildflower this weekend best of luck to you!

Thanks!  Yep, I'm still doing it.  I'll start the run and switch to walking at the first sign of trouble on my left ankle.  Good luck to you as well in Auburn!  Remember: respect the hills
