Well all y'all are doing steller. Unfortunately my week was suppose to end with the La Porte run but the bay HM but my back saw otherwise. I took it easy this week prepping for the HM however I picked up my daughter just right (or wrong)way yesterday and now I'm walking like an old man. hopefully some good R&R today will get me moving again tomorrow. So how was everyones weekly total? Up until the back thing I had a light 13 mi of running and 24 mi of cycling.

well, I think I had a running breakthrough... I dont know if it was the Gu with caffiene... the weather... re introducing the iPod, rest day yesterday, or all the above, but I neg split each mile of my 5 mile run today!    I had to reel myself in and end it at just over 5 miles as 1.  I didnt want to push to long too soon, and 2.  I had another workout right after that to do!

10:50

9:49

8:54

8:50

8:37

I did this at 7am, then I went to my martial arts gym and did "combat cardio" for an hour.  3x3:00 jump rope, with 1 min rest.  then 8 stations of kettle bell, pushups, round kicks, ab work, medicine ball, squats etc with one min rest after each cycle 4x, finished it up with 2 more hours of Krav Maga (striking, kicks and self defense, heavy bag, focus mitts etc).

All in all THIS is what my Sundays need to be like!  Completely gassed but feel great (other than the knee I took to ribs working a burnout/self defense drill at the end)

Weekly totals?  no cycling (only have a MTB right now and its been too wet), 5800yds in the pool, and 13 miles running (mon-sun)

I am hopeing the the weather holds for my run tomorrow morning after work. Great job everyone and keep it up!

Thanks ok Blanda. On my first OWS the light glinting off my goggles as they rested on top of my head scared the sh***out of me!!! It took me a few minutes to realize that I was just seeing the light from my goggles and not some thin silver "fish" comming to get  me.

I would love to join group. I am new to the tri world and new to the site. I am a runner and use to be a swimmer a long time ago. Just ran Savannah marathon and qualified for Boston. My passion is running. I would love any tips you have to share especially in the bike portion. I am 37 and have three boys all 6 and under. I would like to work up to half ironman in October. My schedule so far for 2012 is a sprint in March a sprint in April and an international in June plus a half marathon in March. I am very excited to start doing tri's. everyone tells me I will love them and I won't go back to just marathons.

Finished my HM -1:54:05.  Since I was just hoping to hold on to a sub 2hr time, this was a pleasant surprise.  Because of my lack of recent long running, I was afraid I'd blow up at mile 8.  This result makes me think I could have pushed the pace a bit more and still have been ok.  Still, I am happy with this result.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

Ann-Marie

Great job!!!

Ended up with 63 1/2 running miles last week, but that was because I moved my long run to Sunday last week.

Wow... I should be running a little over that in a MONTH! You did it in a week! Good for you! I knocked out 2400 in the pool this afternoon, main set was 10x100 on 1:45's, kept my splits around 1:20-125, previously 1:25-1:30. Coach's tips helped A LOT! worked drills before the main set and just focused on form. Wish the afternoon lap session was a little longer

Great job on the training, guys! Swim lessons start up this month again. I've joined the "swim team" so I'll be "training" and doing drills 3x a week, and my friends and I plan on OWSs and MTB rides for weekends.

Yesterday putzed around in the pool while kids had lessons. Finally got hang of the 3 strokes breathing, sorta.

That's crazy

I got in a 1700 yd swim this am.  I normally take Monday as a rest day, but after what I ate and drank yesterday I felt the need to burn a few calories!

Ok so I think I should have rested the back another day or two. Did a 10 min warmup on the bike then swam 1200 and then a 10 min cool down back on the bike. Gona just walk my two mi loop around the house after dinner. Hopefully that will help stretch out the backI must say this thread seems to be a flgood idea; definitely pushes me to "lace up" when Im not feeling it.

Well, yesterday wasn't such a great workout day for me.  It was a step back week (training for my marathon) and I was 'only' supposed to run 12 miles.  Considering I ran 18 miles last week, I wasn't to worried about this run.  But, it kicked my butt.  Thankfully I don't think it had to do with my fitness or anything...

I left the house early (6:30 am) so that I could be done with working out for the day and spend time watching football and hanging with my family.  It was pitch black outside and hovering around 20 degrees.  I wore my sport boxer briefs, a thin pair of long-john leggings, and a loose pair of warm-up style pants.  On top I wore a short sleeved tech tee, a long sleeve tech tee, and a long sleeve outer-wear style top over everything.  Though I was utterly freezing for the first 8 or so miles, I felt fine.  But at mile 8 my right knee started to hurt (never hurt before) and my nipples (sorry!) were killing me.  I headed home thinking I'd just take off my short sleeve tech tee and keep going.  When I got home I removed my tee-shirt (which was completely soaked through) and tried to put my two long sleeve shirts back on.  But my second long sleeve shirt was soaked too... so now I am cold, my knee and nips are killing me, and I just don't feel like continuing.

So I called it at mile 10.3.

I know I need new shoes and I think that's the culprit for the knee pain.  I have almost 900 miles on my shoes!!  I know its bad, but I just have a really hard time justifying spending $100 on shoes every three months.  Also, I am thinking my nip issue likely stems from having cheap, winter running clothes.  I usually buy all my training clothes for Target (again, I have a hard time going into a dedicated running store and dropping $$$$ on workout clothes).  But in this case I probably got what I paid for.

Anyways, I had a nice trainer ride this morning and I'm looking forward to hitting my planned 19 miler next Sunday with a vengance.  We all have bad workout days sometimes, right?!?  Doesn't mean my whole training regiment was for nothing!

OK, post over, sorry for the novel.

And here I was about to brag about my run this morning but after your "only" 10 something miles my 3 does not seem so special to me. Have you thought about putting bandaids on your nips? Just a thought. And I also have a hard time spending money on expensive running cloths. All of the tops that I run and train in now are ones that I got from previous run events and I don't seem to have to many problems.

Anyway my run today was simply amazing. I just seemed to glide along for my 3 miles. It seemed like power was surging through my body giving my legs seemingly enless energy. I was hitting every stride with absolute perfection. I loved the feeling of my body moving with almost no effort and glancing at the stares of other people. I know it was not a long run but I loved every second that it lasted.

Haha.... And here I am hoping my 4 miles this cold dark morning go as smooth as your 3! Supposed to be upper 40's later but I've got meetings and appts all day and I'm just not sure I'll be able to squeeze in my run if I don't do it now :-(

Man, I don't think I've ever had a run like that^   I know this mornings 4 miler didn't come anywhere near perfection, but I was happy with how little i hurt relative to how I felt Sunday.

Wow, that is a lot of miles on a pair of shoes. I usually don't change mine till they have around 600 miles which is a lot.

I use body glide on nipples.

If you are having a bad day running it is better to listen to your body and cut it short. If you try and push through it you could risk an injury.

although I dont have nearly the miles logged as lumberdad, that just screams of great advice!

I'm definately diggin this VTP thing!  Thanks Nole for throwing this together!  Quite frankly it's one of the big reasons I forced myself to run this morning instead of "hoping" I could squeeze it in this afternoon.

4 miles, SLOOOOOOOOOOOW pace. (11-12 m/m) I kept checking to see if I had lead balls attached to my feet, they felt SO heavy! but Im glad I grinded it out early!  its 32deg here and snow is on its way.  In the past I would have pushed off the run til later then talked myself out of having enough time.

thanks gang!

Thanks for the responses and encouragements.  I am putting Sunday's run in the rear view and just moving forward.  To give my knee (and nips) a rest, I took one more day off from running and got in a nice 2200 meter swim this morning.  The swim felt great and helped refocus me on my training.  I also got about 10 mins in the hot tub after, which was REALLY nice!

I am glad we have to group to help push and encourage each other.  Keep up the great work everyone!

Great job getting your training in! I think you can get away with a good pair of running shoes under a $100, but you'd feel most comfy if you changed them regularly. You want to be comfy running! As for clothes, whatever works. I have tshirts and shorts I've used till the armpits have opened up, and the elastic has worn out on the waists. I will spend the money on shoes, but won't go all out on the clothes!

Keep up the good work!

Lumber Dad - 2011-12-03 7:41 PM Have to do some more whining. Got up this morning for my long run to find the sidewalks and roads covered in a layer of sleet. Got the 18+ miles in, what doesn't kill us just makes us stronger.

Awesome job. You deal with the hard stuff ahead time, you're not fazed by it race day!

So, yesterday my friend and I got some OWS in. I was fine until I lost my hairband. My hair kept flopping into my face, blinding me, and it made me freak the heck out. I froze on this one rock that held me above water. My friend didn't know I'd stopped, and I didn't want her to keep going and then think I drowned, so I got out of the water, ran through the beach area to holler at her, let her know I was OK.

I finally steeled myself to get back in and swim through a patch of water where I couldn't reach the bottom. I forced myself to be calm and to tread when I felt the panic coming on. Made it through, but I was so angry that I freaked out. Still angry about it. I'm going to continue to try though and wear a dang swim cap.

way to get back out there and like nike says: JUST DO IT! proud of you!!!
