TriMoTri - 2012-01-17 3:07 AM The first week of training on this plan went fairly well...the run is still the big challenge. I wasn't able to do the 20min. long run yesterday, only made it to about 12 min and had to walk. While I do feel my legs and knees are getting stronger, I'm struggling to keep up with this plan because the long run minutes are increasing. I guess I have to modify the long runs to include walking when I need to? Hopefully this next week I'll do a little better.
Give it time on the run - going to fast to soon is a big mistake and will cause injury and then no more running.  Walking is fine...just try splitting it up more.  Run 6min walk 2min.  back in forth and you'll be there in no time.  Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I needed those encouraging words today..

The last time I rode a bike there were no helmet laws and if you were real safe you had one of those 5' fiberglass sticks with a florescent flag on it. A couple of weeks ago when I put on helmet I felt like the Mayor of Dork-ville....Ughhh.

Pool?

I found what had to be the worlds smallest pool this evening...laps in under 3 seconds, Life's good.

LOL!!! love this!

Felt that way after trying TRX training.  Every muscle was quivering and weak.  AWESOME!!!!!!

I built a TRX a year or so ago and after years of lifting I was amazed at how much body weight exercises could put a hurting on you.

What does trx stand for?  What excercises is it covering?

Long run this morning, slow and steady as normal, I'm noticing a pain on my left heel right in the center....  I'm a heel runner, have new shoes, well 4 weeks old, think i should try a insert?  Or any streches I could look up?

Keep on posting - i look forward to reading them every morning.

Thanks

Bill

You can do a bunch of bodyweight exercises with it. It's light weight and you can travel with it.

Here is a link to their YouTube page - LINK

What are the best strength training exercises for the legs? (safe for knees) lunges and squats? My time is limited so I really need to focus on the most effective. Thanks for any advice.

Plyometrics works the legs good.  Gives you cardio while building that explosiveness in your legs.Smile

I rocked it this morning!

run 19 min, bike 53min, swim 30min off to real job before 7am, just before snow got bad on highway.  I'm feeling the high!

So excited that I made it to the swim, jumped off bike, jumped into car and in the water at 6am.  Only if it worked out that way another 4 days a week!  I'm sitcking to my training plan pretty well now that I've been swimming.

Big problem if food!  I've been eating great at work, but when i get home at 4:15pm look out.  I eat everything.  What is a good snack i could eat at work say 3pm that would make me feel full till dinner time 5;30ish???

Trimo- squats and lunges are great exercises. Plyometrics are great too BUT you have to have a foundation or build a base to safely do them without getting injured. Paperboy- almonds, fruit, honey stinger waffle, yogurt are all options. I'm a big boy and they keep me satisfied before a workout and dinner

Good snack, greek yogurt, rice cakes w/ almond butter,  powerbar. Doing of all of the cardio that we do, you can eat a wide variety of foods and not have to worry about it.

TriMoTri - Like bad91 stated squats and lunges can't be beat, even just using your body weight, also look at step-ups LINK . If you're concerned about your knees be careful with exercises like leg extensions which can put a bunch of strain on your knees.

Paper Boy - Congrats on the early morning session, my plane landed at 1:00am and I had an early morning meeting so nothing this morning. I probably eat more protein than most but it seems to hold me better than most anything - often on Sunday I'll grill up a bunch of chicken, slice it and then stick in a bowl, since it's cooked and sliced it's very easy to grab in a hurry....if you don't worry that much about salt beef jerky is another alternative....and if you don't care about calories you can mix protein powder, raw oatmeal, peanut butter and apple sauce together and freeze or put in the fridge....there's a ton of protein powder ideas out on the net.

uggg!  papers came late and threw everything off this morning....

ran 19 min biked 53min, then back to car to get more papers and bam....reality of 5 degrees F and only 45 min to get in shower...i crashed...thinking i can't do this, i can't bike 30 + mins and then get to work on time....i'm cold...my feet are wet....the papers came late....I'm a big BABY

So at work on time and feel like defeated and i need a smoke!  Oh how the little things can throw your day off.  Yesterday was so good - It's Friday, i should be happy and all i can do is think what happen!

Give me a few hours and things will be better I'm sure...but golly my mood swings are pittiful (and my spelling for that matter).  Hope you all have a super Friday.

My run was so much better yesterday! 17 minutes and 1.5 miles. I walked the rest of the minutes to cool down cause my toe was hurting a little (bunion) But, I'm so happy cause my legs and breathing were much stronger this week! I got to use my new Garmin Forerunner 110 too..uploaded the workout to my log easily. Very simple starter training watch for me and I love it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good luck Jac! wow, 3,000 metersLaughing

Glad to hear that about your run and look you are getting stronger. I suffer from very tight hamstrings and calves and one of the best things that I've ever purchased was a Foam Roller. Rolling several times a week make a huge difference

Signed up for the "Indoor Ironman" at the Y today.  This is my 3rd year participating.  Hadn't seriously swam until Jan 2010.  My attempts at Tris started then.  My goal is to actually complete it twice in the Month of February.  The Biking is the easy part.  I can get the 224 in by the 3rd week of the month.  The swimming 4.8 and running 52.4 takes a little motivation and dedication to complete.

Bonus......This year February has 29 days!!!!

Never heard of an event like that but it sounds like an awesome way to set some aggressive training goals. Good luck!

Is there a percentage you should follow when it comes to running on treadmill versus running outside? I live in Florida so it's not like I really have a reason as to why I don't run outside I think I prefer the treadmill because I know at what pace I'm running at.
