New user 22 Saskatchewan | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - OPEN I would like to join your group too! My name is Karen. I have been running for quite a few years. I did my first supersprint tri about 4 years ago. Last year I moved up to sprint and did 2, this year I'm planning on 1 olympic and 1 that is a bit longer (it has a 60 km bike which scares me!). I'm not super fast at anypart of the triathlon, but I try to be consistent and keep improving. Biking is my weakest part! I live in Saskatchewan, and it is really cold in the winter. I still prefer running outside and I'm just in the process of getting a trainer for my bike. I'm 38 years old and am married with 2 young daughters (5 & 7). I'm a kindergarten teacher and work full time. I have a partner that I run with, and I usually compete with my sister who lives 2 hours away. I really want to work on my cycling this year, I think that is the area that I can most improve in. I'm heading to the pool right away and I'm going to check out the open finger thing! I used to lifeguard and teach swim lessons and I always taught people to keep their fingers together like a paddle because once you open them the water slides through. So, I'm going to experiment tonight! |

Expert 1128 Boston | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - OPEN mleech77 - 2013-01-21 4:55 PM Well I'm registered for my first Tri. It's a sprint distance one in April, the Chasing Turkey Sprint Tri outside Richmond, VA. Assuming I have no setbacks I'll have wrapped up the Couch to Sprint program a few weeks before it. I'm excited that I have a true goal/deadline set, it will make me push harder. Thats Awesome!!! Since its so early in the season, is it a pool swim? |

I was wondering whether you would know of any forums where I could find a group of people to train with in Miami or in Hollywood/Hallandale. Thank you, Beatrix
Hi Beatrix, If you look under forums, your state (Florida) should be there 3rd from the top. Theres bound to be someone training. the other way to find a training group is to find your race under the tab "Races" and add it to your planned race log (theres a button to do so) There is a group thread attached to it and whenever someone writes there, you will get a little red notification |

Expert 1128 Boston | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - OPEN jslacker - 2013-01-22 11:01 PM General question for the group. I went swimming today and a lady got in the single shower at the pool that you use to rinse off before getting in the pool. I was waiting for her to get done when she started to shave her legs. I really didn't want to wait so I jumped in the pool. I could have asked if I could jump in really quick but really didn't want to make any enemies at the pool. Question: Should I have waited or was it ok to jump in without showering? Always a good idea to shower before but if its not feasible to do so......Unless you worked up a sweat before hand, you should be fine. How rude of her to shave her legs though. SHe should have done that in the lockker room Edited by Seren 2013-01-24 4:13 AM |

I usually ride outside in the winter but right now we are in a deep freeze and I'm sticking with the trainer..... If you look around the forum there is a Winter CYcling Program that my coach puts on every year. Its based upon HR....if you have a heart rate monitor. THere are also cycling videos that are great...Cyclo-core, spinervals to name a few.

754 | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - CLOSED! I entered this week's workouts, but my swims were entered in yards instead of meters, and I can't figure out how to retroactively change it without deleting them. Anyway, I have a swimming question. I have registered for a sprint tri, and want to do 2 Oly distances in the area this summer. I am up to 2000m of continuous swimming. It takes 1:06, and about every 10th lap, I still need to do the backstroke. I do feel like I have a decent base. So here is my question. Is it better to work on swimming the entire distance using the crawl stroke, or should I start doing speed work? |

New user 22 Saskatchewan | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - CLOSED! So, I did my first swim since probably August last night. It used to be so easy to just pick up and start swimming again, but I was really feeling it last night! I did 1 km and the second half was easier than the first. I'm heading out for a 3 km run tomorrow. We are starting to train for a half marathon at the end of May. It has been around -40 C here all week, so lots of layers! |

I would continue to swim 2000-2200 meters but swim some Easy some at a Moderate speed and some at a Hard speed. This is just an example: WU: 300E, 6x50 swim/drill (25 drill - 25 swim incorporating the drill) |

754 | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - CLOSED! I was going to try intervals this morning, but for some reason the swim was tough. The last ten laps especially were an exercise in willpower. It took 1:15, but I swam 2k. I also did 1 hr 25 min on the trainer this afternoon. |

New user 22 Saskatchewan | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - CLOSED! Good for you! I went skiing this afternoon. Tomorrow morning I'm going for a 7km run. It is the longest that I've done in a couple of months. I think the weather is supposed to be a bit warmer though! I think we are done with -40! |

Great job getting out in that weather. I have gone out in cold temps but that is really cold. Good job. |

Nice job. I don't know how you breathe in those temps.
Light yoga, upper body weights, and a sprint training video for me today. |

New user 11 Alexandria, VA | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - CLOSED! I believe it's better to train how you will fight, so to speak. Other strokes, drills may improve your overall fitness/swimming ability... But since you're probably not training 8-12000 yards a day, you're not likely to meet the diminishing returns that comes with focusing on front crawl....RE: "Anyway, I have a swimming question. I am going to practice tonight. I have been biking before my lessons on Wednesday. I have been running mostly because my husband and I are doing 2 5k in March. I will try to get my workouts logged from last week!!

Which trainer did you pick up? I bought a cycleops fluid trainer three months ago. It works well but sometimes it makes a whining noise. It's pretty quiet otherwise. |

I set it up last night, but not sure how to get my bike on with the quick release. So, it is still sitting there. I'll have to see if there is a video. I am not very handy! I headed out skiing again tonight. It is a beautiful night. We went 5km. Edited by mrscanmore 2013-01-28 9:44 PM |

Member 15 Rockville, MD | Subject: RE: Tri with Seren - CLOSED! Question for the group: Say that you're following a training plan, and you fall behind. You miss a workout, maybe two. Do you: a) Skip the missed workout, continue on with the next day of your plan like nothing happened; b) Do the missed workout, push everything back by a day; c) Cram the missed workout in, even if that means working out twice in a day or more consecutive training days without a rest day, than you would like; d) Lump the missed workout in with the next workout of that exercise (e.g. if you missed a swim, then next time you swim do the scheduled swim plus the missed swim). And does it make a difference if you have missed two workouts? |
