as far as i know so far we are just doing total minutes and everything counts. strength, yoaga, walking, aerobics...i sent mary a PM tonight, just can't seem to time our phone calls right these days, to seal the deal. i did get a nod here from everyone correct. if anyone is not in to it, let me know and we will see about subs. they have 6 people (5 mentees and mary) so it would give them an advantage if anyone didn't participate. |

so happy that you were able to take advantage, let us all know when it arrives and how the first try on goes. you may still need a sports bra underneath. |

Carol - the other option is we could divide # of minutes by # of people (so if we have less people it won't hurt us)? Then the winning team would be best avg. minute/person score? (Only if we don't have the same # of people, otherwise straight up minutes works.) |

I don't know, I'd rather see white than yellow! Yellow squares are days where something was written but no activity. And I will have a few white (or yellow) squares during the month, it's the nature of off days! (not a lot, should only be one a week ) |

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!! Today in swim class, I swam a lap without stopping at the far wall!!! And then I did it again, and again (with and without flippers)! I have no doubt that I will be ready for my triathlon in March! My tri-suit hasn't come yet, but my new swimsuit did yesterday! (Very boring, very functional solid color swimteam swimsuit - but I was sooooo excited to have new gear.) Have a great weekend, all! |

Seriously, if I logged all the walking I did while taking care of my kids it would be ridiculous but I'll do my best. And great job with the swimming! Keep it up and you'll be able to swim several hundred yards in no time! |

great news about you swimming progress! I'm so pathetic, when I rest - I rest ...and yoga doesn't agree with my type-A personality. But, in the interest of defending Carol's honor, I will try to get all pink boxes. |

Veteran 155 Decatur, GA | Subject: RE: mosc11's Group - FULL So, I went for a long ride on Saturday - 35 miles. And I had some issues. First, my toes were numb by the end. I think this was partly due ot the temperature and my riding in running shoes that are designed to be well ventilated. But, even in warm weather I sometimes get numb toes. Second, I was very uncomfortable in my saddle and very sore in that area the day after and still a little today. By the end, I almost couldn't bear staying seated. I wear padded shorts and my saddle is fairly cushy and grooved, so I'm wondering what more I could do to prevent this from happening. Third, my back and my neck are so stiff and achey from the ride. I know this has some to do with my flexibility, which impacts my ability to hold a good riding position. But I ride a women's specific bike and I had it properly fitted. So, anybody have any of these problems or have an idea how to alleviate some of the pain? I've got a 39 mile ride on tap for this weekend, and I don't want to be hurting so much afterward again. By the way, I rented the movie "2 seconds" from Netflix over the weekend. It was a very good movie about a woman mountain biker who is forced to retire and takes a job as a bike courier. It's in French, so you have to read subtitles, but it was a very fun and inspiring movie. If anything, it'll make you want to take very good care of your bike. |

First, awesome job on your 35 mile ride! The farthest I've gone is 30 miles. And second I'll tell you what I know about numb toes (which isn't alot) but it happens to me too. I'm guessing you have platform pedals with cages? I had those on my bike too and numb toes happen to me everytime I rode for more than 30 minutes. I read that it is from "mashing" the pedals. When riding with shoes that aren't clipless, your pedal stroke is only from pushing down on the pedal to bring the other foot up. (does that make sense?) When using clipless pedals, you can get the full range of motion in that you can pull up and push down. I know when I was mashing too much my toes were completely numb even when it was 90 degrees outside. As far as the cold goes, wear better socks. I also know what you mean about the seat. I thought my previous seat was invented to be a women's torture device, seriously. I've read that sometimes a harder or stiffer seat might be what you need. Sometimes a seat that's too cushy can cause pain. Even though my seat is better, I'm still sore after long rides. For me, I think I'm still getting used to riding aero for long periods of time so my pelvic bone and the surrounding area is sore. I don't know what to tell you about your neck and back. Maybe it's just not being used to holding that position for that length of time? Are you riding on the hoods by the brakes? I know when I'd ride like that it made my shoulders and wrists sore for days. Hope that helps! (a little anyway! ) Edited by autigers_1998 2007-01-22 2:22 PM |

Veteran 155 Decatur, GA | Subject: RE: mosc11's Group - FULL Thanks. Those are helpful suggestions. I've been thinking about getting cycling shoes and eventually changing to clip pedals. I just don't have the money right now. So, I'll tighten up my cages and try to work on not mashing so much on the pedals. I was also reading a thread on seat comfort and saw some suggestions for better saddles for women. Again, when I have some money, I'll look into trying out a new saddle. |

Champion 6107 Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red... | Subject: RE: mosc11's Group - FULL Thanks also for the info re: numb feet! I wear the toe cages, but haven't ridden far enough yet to get numb tootsies...but my gadget-gear brother sent me some of his castoff pedals, so now I just need to buy some shoes...(trying to spread out those expenses - can't wait for my new trisuit to show up in the mail, but first I need to join USAT and sign up for my races). Have a great weekend all! I leave Thursday to go out of town, so I won't have much e-mail access but I should have access to the hotel fitness center so I hope to atleast run or cycle while I'm gone. I'll be sending mental inspire vibes in lieu of regular ones. Can't wait for the challenge.... Kristen |

Master 1888 Winder, GA | Subject: RE: mosc11's Group - FULL Also, you could check out ebay for some deals. I got my pedals that are Look compatible for $45 whereas other places they were at least $60. Bike Nashbar also has sales all the time and often you can find killer deals. On their website there is a section with returned stuff on it and it's often "like new" but at a deep discount. It takes some patience to sort through because they usually only have one size of something but if it's your size it's a great deal. I got my cycling shoes that way, I happened to find some Adidas shoes on there for $33. They're not perfect but worth every bit of $33. Money is tight for me as well since I stay at home; I didn't get clipless pedals until I had sold some stuff and built up my paypal account. |

My new tri-suit was in my mailbox when I got home today, and if I may say so, I look FAST in it. OK, so I put it on and stood in front of the bathroom mirror, but I still think I look speedy. I'm sooooo ready for March. (Oh, well, I guess I have to keep training, but at least I'll look good.) Thanks for passing on the info from Mary's thread!
