24miles today, drenched on way in. Thunder storm, but is was warm so did not change, kept on going. Home trip was great, warm, setting sun. No ride tomorrow, although had planned one, children need to be shuttled to MA. so will have to skip the ride. Hopefully make up with an extended home trip on Sun.

Good start, guys!

Just to clarify - any combination of one-way, round trip, park & ride, public transit, etc. that works for you is welcome in the challenge - as long as it involves biking (or running, or swimming) some portion of the distance. I'll log 'em however you tell me to.

Here's my stats, I'm actually in for 12 and have completed 2 so far. Only 12 you ask? It's a 50 mile round trip, and the return starts at 10:30PM in the dark.

This week, I biked into work 4 days and home 3 days (I was tired of changing flats on the road and hopped a bus home one day).

So far, I've biked in everyday I've had to be there. I'll break that string tomorrow since I'm going in for a dental appointment. It's just not worth taking a shower when I get there for an hour appointment, so I'll take the bus.

I've only done 2 rides toward my 40 ride goal and did a few in April. Just had a bad week last week. Next week I want to try for 3 times (the most I'll probably ever be able to do in one week because of two after-work commitments). I have noticed that commuting has made a HUGE difference in my fitness.

As to the bike question, I'm riding a hybrid I picked up for pretty cheap at a used bike show. I ride it with sneakers and my laptop in a backpack. I might upgrade commuter bikes next year, but for now I'm loving that I can ride a gravel bike path along a stream for a portion of my trip. And I like the more upright position during the rush hour ride home. And it's a triple while my road bike is a compact double. I do 23-24 miles roundtrip.

Anyhow, here's a little chart anyone can put on their logs to keep track of your rides. Just add in your goal and adjust the position of the end strike code accordingly.

Finally, I'm on the board. Rode in today and as a bonus, I was able to ride with another commuter for about 10-15 minutes. It was cool, but we mostly had to stay single file so we only chatted for a short while.

I also left my mini-tool and tire levers on my other bike. I usually keep them in my camelbak, but I haven't put them back in there since my race a week ago. If I do have a flat, I'll be sure to video the "Norman" moment I have on the side of the road trying to get my tire on/off without levers.

Way to go TJ - don't feel like you have to justify your goal. Your twelve rides add up to almost as much mileage as my 50 - and I'm doing mine in daylight!

Count me in - I know I'm a late comer, but with this week being ride your bike to work week, I commuted twice already.  Legs are tired, but the ride is a reward in itself.  I especially enjoy the ride home.  Helps unwind and clear the mind from work.  It's just a number, but I'll go for 50 (seems like a big number)

Can I play too, even if my commute is only just over a mile each way? (it all adds up I did 330 miles commuting last year with it)

So far this month, 10 round trip days cycling, 1 one way trip walking

A little late in coming, but I'd like to join too. I'm only going to try for 40 though with a late start and a uber-heavy old, but free mountain bike (I don't want to have to lock up my tri bike outside) that makes my legs way more tired than they should be for how short the ride is. Hoping to buy a cheap lighter one soon though.

Two down for this week.

Probably the easiest way would be to hit the "quote" button of the reply with the chart. Now, you should be able to cut and paste the chart into your blog page.

Add 1 more commute to me, and that will likely be my last ride for a little bit, as I got hit and runned by a car and totaled my bike this AM at 5:30AM.

That would now be 3/12 of the rides I have planned.

TJ... are YOU ok??!!!... That's not something I like to hear from one of my fellow riders. Bike's can be replaced... but you are more important. Everything ok?

Yeah, I'll live, little sore, but that is about it at this point, bruised ego...

Try some slick tires first.  That should add 1-2mph at same effort.  Make sure the drivetrain is clean and lubed, too.

I've commuted twice so far this week and one planned for tomorrow. I didn't cut through the park on Wednesday and regretted being on 16th street during morning rush hour. The cut through the park doubles my trek, but in the mornings after a night of work, my sanity is worth it.
