Hows everyones weekend training gone.

I'm afraid I missed getting my best chance at a PB (by miles) and have not done any of the core workouts yet. I promise to make a start on them tomorrow. Apart from that I have had a great weekend. Clear dry day in Scotland so I was able to get outside on the bike today and have done half my bike distance already. 3 turbo sessions should take care of the remaining distance so the weather can do what it likes now.

Man, that's awesome about your biking. Nice to have such a big chunk of it already completed.

I had a rest day on Saturday and then a long (for me) trainer ride last night. Today is rest day and tomorrow I will try to ride but have a very long work day planned (0600-1800) so it might have to wait until Wednesday.

Go 5 for Fighting!!!

Subject: RE: 5 for Fighting

morning you all! sorry i join in this late - better later, eh.

my name is antti asu, i live in bahrain with my beautiful wife and two boys, 2,5 and 1. we've been here for three years. i work here as an air traffic controller in bahrain acc (area control). i got into tri'ing year ago when i did a sprint - without any training. didn't go so well. so, this year i decided to practice too. first sprint was just last weekend and now it is time to change up gear a knot. time to buy a real bike. if you go and check my tri results, you'll understand why. it is really annoying to finish swim among first ones and then during biking everybody just flies by. darn, may i say!

when i signed up for this challenge, i thought i won't be swimming that much this month, but i guess i will anyway. so, i think that i will have to add up some kilometers for that part. we'll see.

anyway, nice to get to know you all! go 5forFighting!!!!!

Nice workouts, David...Michigan has been delightful this weekend....gorgeous fall weather. I've got 3 workouts down, one to go. Unless I get distracted by a beer.  Or a hot chick. Or a hot chick bringing me a beer.... or...

I reckon a 45 minute swim equates to 3 pints of lager (each with a bag of crisps).

Subject: RE: 5 for Fighting

being in hc team and all, i need an opinion on bike issue. my biking has always been on/off road kind of leisure biking. now after last friday i got green light from my wife to buy a racing bike. now, i need your help.

i have two actual choices  -  either trek 1400/1500/2100 or eq7. price would be same regardless the bike (2100 maybe a bit more). i'm large frame person, meaning not skinny, but not fat either - anymore, at least. 181cm (5'11' and some) and 95ish kilos, what is that, 200+ lbs.

i will be biking here with awali road bikers like once a week and rest would be with mountain bike or road bike on my own.

i hope i can do like 3-5 triathlons a year. they are planning for olympic distance here next spring.

so, what should i buy?

Antti. welcome to the challenge.  Yes, this is a very international team.  I am assuming from your name that you are originally from Finland.  Go Suomi!!  Arrgh, my Finnish vocabulary is not so great any more!

Hope everyone's been having a good start to the challenge.  I've been posting a mini-spreadsheet in my blog each day, and here's a copy of yesterday's entry and my totals:

"5 For Fighting" November Challenge
 GoalTodayTotal
Weight170178.416.6
Trainer / Road / MTB Hours30 Hours2:155:15
Sit-ups / Crunches100040115
Walking / Running Mileage50 Miles2.510.0
KissingOnce Per Day111

I've been taken to task on the "kissing" part of it...haha!  I guess I have to pick up the pace there a bit.  But the biking, walking/running, and sit-ups have been going great.

The Trek 2100 is a nice bike!  It comes with 10 speed cassette and Shimano 105 STI shifting system and would be perfect for triathlon and general road riding as well.  That way you won't be into a tri-specific bike which is probably not necessary.  You can add a set of triathlon aero bars to it.  I'm not sure how the pricing is where you need to get delivery in Bahrain, but it seems to be priced around $1450 US Dollars.  It has nice Bontrager wheels too.  With your weight around 90-95 kg (200 lbs) you will have no problems with that either.

After 4 days of being sick, I am back to my workouts!  But it did leave me a little behind already in the challenge.  However, the weather here was gorgeous yesterday so I got in a 1 hour bike ride, which sits me at 9% to my bike goal and I ran 5.5 this morning putting me at 7% to my run goal.  Its gonna be a long month, but I am up for it!

- 2007-11-05 12:40 PM Can I join you guys on this challenge? I love the 5 for fighting, as I am a huge Hockey Fan. I also like to surround myself with over achievers. I was in a challenge last month for running, I struggled a lot because of a long trip I took and some backwards personal issues. However i have some specific goals for this month to get me back on track they are as follows assuming its ok to join: Yoga 2 per week or 8 total Strength 2 per week or 8 total 1 Swim per week 4 Total 1 Run per week or 4 total 1.5 rides per week or 6 total I would love to have # of kisses as a goal.. But... i'm single now and my co-workers just don't like me that way. So I'll go for 12 inspires a week. 48 total.

Whoa!!!  A Laura sighting...and of course, you can join. Anyone that can pull off a lime-green track bike is persona grata here, without question. And don't give up the kissing thing too quickly. Now's not the time to be hasty on such an important decision.

c'mon mate, couple of kisses to co-workers is not yet harassing, is it? and there is always fridays and bars, brilliant for singles!

Well, I am from Finnish ancestry, my great granparents lived there (I think in the city of Turkuu) before emigrating to the USA.  My dad could speak fluent Finnish, but I think all I ever learned was the "bad" words...hahaha!!!

Let us know when you get your new bike, you will be amazed at the difference and how much faster a road bike is!

OK, I took advantage of the fact that it's a glorious autumn day, and that I was too lazy to change out of my tri shorts after this morning's weight workout -- so I threw on my bike shoes and helmet, and took a nice ride this morning.  And I added another 15.75 miles towards my goal.

I figure I should go ahead and aim to get my bike miles in when I can, before the weather turns.  (No, I'm not competing for suckage points... not that we have any authentically sucky weather here anyway.)

Now I'm off for a short walk to the library to return a book.  I was relieve to discover that I'd mis-read my MIL's email saying she was coming on Monday... next Monday.  PHEW!

Sucky weather in Nor-Cal? Hmmm... reality or an oxymoron?

The weather has been gorgeous though, hasn't it? Almost like it's going to be co-operating for our challenge

Great job this weekend guys and gals! Way to get the workouts and beer drinking in- there's room for both in a balanced training plan - right Rick?

What? BEER was included? Why did I miss that memo? I've got to get started - I would hate to be the one to cause the team to fall behind on the brewed beverages goal.
