Totally awesome guys. You deserve medals. Gold for both. Congratulations doesn't seem like a big enough expression on what you have achieved.

Scared the heck out of myself this morning. I looked at my sprint coming up on Saturday and realized its longer than I though it was going to be. I though 750 swim 20k bike and 5k run. turns out its a 750 swim 30k bike and 7k run.
Oh well I have paid for the event so I will just have to go ahead and do it. I am so going to pay for not having trained properly for this.

I learned a few interesting pieces of trivia about the IMCanada race yesterday.....Robbie Ventura from the former Postal Team and current commentator for Versus on the Tour de France competed yesterday, and our boy Steve kicked his butt on the swim:

Steve - 1:08:57 with a 1:49/100m pace and T1 of 4:56

Robbie - 1:18:01 with a 2:04/100m pace and T1 of 5:51

However, Robbie did the bike couse in 4:51:40 averaging 23mph - can you imagine?  I guess after the Tour, a one day attack on the hills didn't seem so bad.

Also, there was a 78 year old woman, Sister Madonna, who finished in just over 17 hours.  I am officially humbled by every single racer yesterday.  First timers like Igo who set (and achieve) such incredible goals, Steve for setting a PR while sick, Robbie for being Robbie, Sister for being 78 and kicking my a** something fierce....you all rock!!!!

Igo, what was it like? Did your kids run accross the finish line with you?

Following the race online, I learned something too.  It's one thing to see the final times and think, hey - maybe I could do that.  It's another to check in just after the swim, go do a whole bunch of errands, watch the kiddo for a couple hours, go swim 2000 yards, come home have dinner, get the car ready for vacation and then check back in to see our guys still competing.

It was then that I realized that I am not an Ironman.  I could not maintain any physical activity, even simply walking, for the duration you guys did.  I'm so impressed, and definetly humbled, by your achievement yesterday.

I got to see Igo finish and he ran across the finish line w/ his boy, and right after they gave Igo the finisher's medal, he took it off his neck, and put it around his son's neck!  CLASS ACT!

There was also a guy who was the 1st EVER Heart Transplant Ironman Finisher!  Unbelievable!!!  It is nice to be home!

Yo all, I'll be off the grid for awhile.  Busy day at work tomorrow and then we're off to our cabin for a week of s/b/r/r&r and spending some quality time with the fam.

I busted my this morning and ran just shy of 5 miles at a sub-8 minute pace.  Six months ago, 5 miles seemed like a pipe-dream, now it's a fast/hard run.  I also registered for a 15k that fit nicely in my half-marathon training plan and actually overlaps a good portion of the HM course.

Take care all and have a fun/safe/relaxing long weekend.

Peace, Matt

Wow sub 8, that's great.  you have a great weekend also.

Tough week or so for me.

Last saturday, big party at my house for my brothers girlfriends birthday.

Last Night,  VAMDDCBTTC fantasy football draft at my house.

Thursday, my dad comes into town.

Friday, golf with dad, brother and son

Saturday, Start of college football season and big FF draft at my house.

Sunday, Party at my house for my brothers birthday.

Tough to make sure I get my training in and attempt to keep the drinking/eating bad food to a minimum.

Steveand Igo: not enough can be said of your accomplishments. Awesome move on your part Igo to give your son your medal right after the race.

Matt: have a great week. Enjoy your family time.

Tony: life is tough when you have to party too much. Enjoy .... Train early in the morning then you have all day to do whatever you want to do.

I am doing a tri this weekend. Not sure if it will be my last this year or not. There is another one in Sept that I haven't decided on. I'll wait until after this weekend to make that decision.

To ALL--- Thanks for all your KIND WORDS!  It is nice to be done with this!  I am the type of person that loves ALL types of activities, and it has been hard to focus on "3 SPECIFIC" sports for 8 straight months, but now I am looking for to getting back into the mountains, and other oddball stuff.... AND MORE IMPORTANTLY figuring out what the heck is wrong with my respitory system!

I remember the 1st time I went to watch an Ironman and thinking to myself MAN I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED alot today (while all the athlete's are out racing)... I had 3 GOOD meals, a Nap, a workout, etc... and people were still out racing!  OH MAN!

If racing the Ironman is a goal of yours, you CAN and WILL DO IT!!!  It is a natural progression in the sport of endurance!  Each and everyone of you since April has gone, either faster. and/or farther than you did 6 months ago.... You will get there (if that is what you want to do--- YOU Don't have to, but it can be done!)... 8 years ago (or so) I had ABSOLUTELY ZERO interest in ever doing a triathlon... I can't say that now.  I am hooked!  I love the sense of accomplishment!  I love when my friends, and family call me an idiot, or crazy, or when my parents say that I am not from their GENES!  I doesn't need to be the Ironman to have this same sense of feeling... It can be anything i in life... It is just your dreams!  It is what YOU want to accomplish!

I mean it when I say that I am proud of all of you and how far you have all come... A couple PR's, Kids born, distance accomplishments, 1st races, 1st open water swims, age group placements, etc... This is what this sight, and thread is created for! I can say that I have my some GOOD friends in this group!

Thanks to ALL OF YOU!

Well it seems that ragweed season has hit the area and everyone seems to be coughing, sneezing etc. All of us at work and home have been running (maybe driving) to the drug store for allergy medicine. Not very condusive to a triathlon this week end. However If Steve can do an Ironman with his respritory ailments I'm sure I can handle a little coughing and sneezing for a much shorter race.

Have you noticed that we don't refer to the Ironman as a race? As Steve once said you don't run an Ironman you survive it.

I am a happy man today (SORT OF!)!!! The doctor FINALLY FIGURED OUT WHAT WAS WRONG W/ ME!!!!!

I have a cyst (sp?) on my vocal chord!  It is going to require surgery but I think that I am going to have to wait a few months to get back into the swing at work!

Alright stop poking fun... This is a huge deal for me... I have been trying to figure out for the past 7 months what the heck is wrong!  CONGRATS TO ME IS RIGHT!  Sadly, enough I feel like this is a bigger victory than the Ironman (not really, but a close second!)....

You're absolutely right. THis is much bigger than a zit on the inside of your nose. So come on gang lets have some sympathy for our fearless mentor and leader.
Really though I am glad you have found out what it is.
