So how close is this to our blue-green thing of beauty??

Mazo Beach, Mazomanie, Wisconsin

THE NAKED TRUTH: It may not be the mighty Mississippi, but you can almost picture Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer splashing about in the Wisconsin River by this surprisingly broad willow- and bluff-lined sandbank between Sauk City and Mazomanie. Despite several attempts, no measures banning nudity have passed the legislature, and hundreds of naturists of all ages cheerfully ignore the occasional peaceful protesters (the eastern half of the river, in Dane County, is legally designated clothing-optional). The lively locals organize fun events aplenty like Nude Olympics and "Christmas in July," and you'll find the expected beach-y amenities like volleyball pits and campfires (yep, cheese dogs and brewskis are popular) replete with acoustic guitar serenades.

TIP: Don't be deceived by the shallow water and surrounding sandbars. Though regulars joke that the only surf is caused by ripples of passing canoes, beware the occasionally strong swift currents.

I don't see my "hero" birky's bib number in the line up? Whats up with that?

My bike is enroute to Madison from California, so I am back on my road bike for the first time in 4 months...

Let's say the weather forecast stays what it says right now...68 and showers. What do you wear? I have been planning to wear my tri shorts and top. Would you just add arm warmers for the bike and possibly a jacket for the run...maybe a jacket for both? What about a long sleeved Under Armour under the tri top...would that be okay under the wetsuit? 68 really isn't that cool...but with rain...it is such a long time to be wet and cool.

I know the forecast can/will change but it is at least a possibility I need to prepare for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would bring all your cold and warm weather gear with you.  I for one got caught in 06 with only warm weather clothes and by the time I went to buy cold and wet weather gear everyone was sold out.  I used a garbage bag to stay dry.  Did not help.  But yes arm warmers are good and I like my foot warmers(shoe covers) and depending on how heavy the rain a rain coat that you can afford to throw away or tuck in your jersey. If it does stop raining.   But now we are thinking positive and when race day arrives it will be 70 and Partly cloudy. Wink

Birkie says "bad juju" to post his bib #.  Back up a couple of pages to read.

I would not consider wearing a long-sleeve Under Armour under a wetsuit.  Water still gets in and will soak the long-sleeve, and then when you get the wetsuit stripped, you'll have a wet long-sleeve, which won't keep you warm, and will be a challenge trying to take off in T1 if you were planning on switching out to a second, dry one.

Arm warmers put on in T1 would be good (that's what I'll be doing for sure).

I have a light windbreaker/rain jacket that I'll have in my T1 bag or T2 bag - haven't decided.

Wisconsin weather is so unpredictable.  I've rode on a Sat. one time where Verona had scary-looking clouds and threatening skies, but only when I got 5 miles outside of Mount Horeb was when the nasty rain started coming down (and lightening was all around).  The weather could be isolated, too, in certain areas.  Just an F.Y.I.

Keep in mind if it says 68 degrees for a high it will be a lot colder at the start of the ride.  I have rode the last two morning when the high was predicted to be 78 and 80.  Needed gloves and arm warmers both mornings to get through the 54 degree temps.  Pack everything you own.  Doesn't take up much space and you can always leave it at the hotel.

Well that really narrows it down.

He's right, though. The weather varies A LOT in the Midwest this time of year. It can change drastically from day to day and from hour to hour. Hot/cold. Rain/clear. Whatever. You name it. I don't think I've ever seen snow in the first part of September... but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Just like I wouldn't rule out a 95* humid heatwave.

Anything goes!

And welcome to Wisconsin! Don't like the weather? Wait an hour.

Edited to try to fix my HTML insanity.

Hi all,
I'm a volunteer for the sag wagon.
I'm wondering though, if anyone will be doing the bike loop this week. I'm a night shift worker, and am thinking about driving my truck around the loop once or twice a day, see if anyone needs help. I'd pack some water, a few tools, maybe even give transport to someplace within reason and time limits.
I could even do it the saturday after the volunteer briefing if anyone is going to be riding.

Thoughts?
