Great news!!!!

No MS!!! YAY!!! I guess I just need more rest and I probably had competely overtrained. No more peach month attempts for me.

Starting tonight I am getting back in the groove. A short spin on the bike on the trainer, too wet and nasty here for a good ride. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I could feel the vibes. You all rock.

16 minutes on the bike, it was nice to go again.

Hey people, what do you think - my rear tire is worn smooth as a baby's butt from the trainer. Is it OK to ride on the road with it? I really haven't put in that much time on the trainer that it is worn thin ... but I don't really know. Whaddya think?

I've found that if I ride the trainer with hugely a over-inflated back tire, it sheds less rubber (at one point there was a small black pile developing next to the fly-wheel!) That said, I'd get a new tire and keep the old one for next winter.

It'll blow out somewhere and I'd rather have that when the wheel is off the ground!

(Listen to us talk as if there's not going to be anymore snow/frost - optimistic aren't we!!Cool

What a run today! I was going to go and plod in zone 2 round the wee loch and just work my way to 5 miles and go back to work, I reckoned it was just short of a mile round so 5-6 laps would do the job - the first lap was done in 5 min dead (I can't run 5 min miles - so I knew the map work had been rubbish!)

The revised on the job plan, was to try to maintain my steady pace and  just do the 9 laps it would take to complete the distance (based on my rubbish calculations of 9 min miles)

Needless to say my sums were pants and I was actually trying to give myself a coronary! (I assumed my high heart rate was because of a cold I'm trying not to get - actually it's cos I was runing my a$$ off and ended up doing 6 miles!) See below and criticise freely!!

I assume the climbing average is because my body can't cope at that pace and doesn't have endurance (yet!)?

Yep, it's called cardiac drift.

If I remember the protocol correctly, you need to reduce your pace so that HR remains in Z2. Otherwise you are doing a much harder workout. But HR can be complicated by, as you mention, illness, or medication, or caffeine or whatever.

After boring myself to tears running in Z2 early in my training, I had to shift to a perceived exertion method. I was much happier. Also, determining HR zones can be tricky (there is a good article somewhere here on BT by Mike Ricci on the subject). Come to think of it, a poorly derived HR zone chart was probably the issue in my case.

Good luck, and Tammy I hope you do not mind my chiming in on the subject, but this question of keefmac's was one I had during my HIM training last season.

Some tires come bald to begin with.  I know I had some that were like that and I was fine.  If you are worried get a new one..... there is a lot of gravel out on the roads right now- so be careful

does it look entirely different from the front?

do we have HR zones for you?

I dont think there is anything wrong woth pushing the pace sometimes.... teach your body how it feels. I wouldnt do it for every run (unless you recover like a god. )

Do you ever do tempos??... For example warm up...9 minm iles for 2 miles then push that pace- suppose to be close to 10k pace... but maybe accordong to this run 7:20s would work- for maybe 3-5 miles then 1-2 miles cool down.

do we have HR zones for you?  I did them a while back from a (possibly dodgy!) LT test on tready in Jan - I just plugged the numbers into the BT calculator and have been using them since. I know I need to re-do it, for one thing I'm now running in the big outdoors and for another I'm able to run three times the distance at a goodish pace. Maybe I should re-do it the middle of next week once I've recovered from the MTB race...?

You crack me up Tammy - even the short version of the tempo described is a mile further than I've ever run in my life!!!

No, I've never done tempos - what do they do for you? Are they just intervals on a larger scale? (How have I survived uninjured this far? - I know nothing!!! - learning lots though!!)Smile

I'll go'n hunt down thingy Ricci as well - Thanks BabsVa

Congrats Terri on a long - long - confidence builder - of a run!! i ran a bit Saturday and it was gorgeous. unlike our mentally-challenged husbands who biked this morning. i'm doing my long run in a bit - wish we could've done together!

headed to Emrys tomorrow for my aeros, fitting, and overall check-up. haven't had it looked at since i fell at spirit of racine. For some reason i feel that wasn't my last wipe-out. The conditions were slick that day sure - but i feel i have to fly sooo fast sometimes and not always in control. kind of a freaky realization. now add the aeros and i'm really in trouble. need to get outside and get comfortable i guess.

hope the weekends were great! Pink-eye has visited out home...lovely.

I put in 10,000 yards of swimming last week. Swimming has been a big struggle for me. I had been easing up on bike and run due to nagging hamstring tendonitis that I would really like to go away before the season begins - so that has left me time to focus on swimming. When I can run, I much prefer it and find I have little energy left for working on swimming. So, anyway, the opportunity has presented itself and I can't say I've gotten fast in the pool, that's for sure - but maybe a little less slow ;-)

How are y'all? The group's been quiet ...
