Subject: RE: Have I lost my mind to consider a HIM?
My focus (fitness wise) for the new year is:

1) I WILL meet my weight goal (150) or get as close as my body allows. This is the year. Pigs are flying and hell is sub-zero baby. Seriously though... 40lbs needs to be gone to improve my power to weight ratio.

2) Follow workout plan given by IM coach as closely as I possibly can try not to 2nd guess or deviate too much... not skip days, and supplement it with additional walking and strength workouts.

3) Get 2010 miles done, and to try and keep up with you girls who are training for an earlier HalfIM.

4) Work on my nutrition. Not only what I eat but the timing of different types of foods for recovery. Improve over-all quality. Phase out more of the empty calories.

5) NAIL nutritional needs and practice during training. I really really REALLY don't want to get sick during my races. IM is tough enough w/o the tossing of cookies.

6) When all is said and done no matter WHAT happens. NO backsliding. NOT gaining weight back. Will keep within 5lbs or so of where I level off. I'm done with this yo-yo game. I'm a new person now and I won't settle for anything less then I'm worth.

That's about it. Time to settle in for the long haul!

For those of you who log their food online what do you use? I am considering livestrong my plate, spark people something like that.

Pre-bodybugg I used Myfooddiary.com. More user friendly but has a monthly charge. ($9.00 I think?)

As far as the free ones I liked dailyplate vesus fitday or sparkpeople.

Now I just log mine on the bodybugg site so it can give me my deficit.

Also there is "Lose-it" on the ipod/itouch if you have one of those. My husband was using that for awhile which he liked.

Hey eneryone.  Doing better but still out of it.  tried not to take pain meds today but I think I need some now.  Hoping tomorrow is better.  Hubby has been helping me get dressed and do my hair.  Embarrassing.  Supposed to go hear a comedian tonight.  Should be interesting.  Still thinking about goals for 2010.

When I was doing it before, I just used the one here on BT.  It probably isn't the best, but it was here and convenient and adequate.  When I needed to look up something not on BT, I think I went to Daily Plate.

My coach uses Training Peaks to give me my workouts and so I also post my training there.  TP also has a nutrition component, which I have never used or looked at much, and I might use that one so my coach can look at it.  Logging workouts in two places is not too bad, but I don't see myself logging my food twice.

Another one of the big reasons for wanting to log my food is that I also want to nail the raceday nutrition.  I know I have not planned that as wisely as possible in the past so I plan to practice and I need to know what I have done to know what to do.  For some reason, I don't get "hungry" during races and so I don't eat.  You should have seen the look of horror on the face of one of my Crossfit trainers when I told him what I had consumed during my last oly.  (The short answer is - not much.)

Thanks for the info. So far I like the daily plate since there is an iphone version as well as web.

While you could get through an Oly and I got through my nearly 5 hour marathon on nothing but a piece of toast 4 hours before it started (it was the olden days). You have to get it somewhat right in a HIM and at least 75% correct in a IM or you will bonk. Best is to practice in training to see what works. Drinks, Gels, chews, there are all kinds, you can even make your own but you should have a schedule for your HIM by miles or time of when to eat and drink because by the time you feel either it's often too late.

I was hoping Santa would bring me an iphone, but Santa was annoyed at ATT and didn't like the cozy arrangement between Apple and ATT.  So, I don't have one - YET.  Anyway, do the iphone app and the web version connect or are they separate?

And I didn't get through my oly as well as I had expected to, not even counting the swim start (or non-start).  And I believe that part of it has to do with nutrition.  And if I didn't have oly nutrition nailed, I sure as heck won't for the HIM without some work.  I also tried to do the oly nutrition "Paleo" and even my Crossfit trainers say that for endurance events, some compromises must be made.  But I know they will work with me to be as "pure" as possible.

I went and reread the first few pages of this thread.  Quite useful.  There was interesting stuff about you guys that I had forgotten.  Like that Kiri used to be a competitive swimmer.  I recommend it.  We are a nice group here.  Thank you all for being here.  Have a great New Year's Eve.  Stay safe.  And let's raise a virtual glass to having a wonderful and successful 2010!

Happy New Year!!  Wow..I forgot how hard it is to workout with the cold weather and visiting family.  I have gotten some workouts in but not much.  I have kept the ingestion of cheese curds to a minimum..although it is Friday today and thus a fish fry is mandatory.

I got a waterproof case and ear buds for my Ipod but am debating about returning them and getting the swimp3 - any comments?

Also got yak trax, snow shoes and new volleyball shoes. My sister in law said I was by far the easiest person to buy for..especially if she did not have a budget.  I ahd to laugh while I was opening my toys and eveyone else was opeingin tools and cooking utensils.

So - what have we all decided on for new year's resolutions. I am going to write mine out on the plane flight back late tomorrow night.

I miss you guys and reading your posts regularly ( I can't beleive I wrote that).  I also can't beleive the decade went so fast..10 years ago I was in PAdedena with my brother and brother in law for the Rose bowl game..after spending new years eve playing with monkeys, shutting down bars, getting beat by the pasedena police, hanging out with 1000 other badger fans, watching the governor and Henry Winkler get smashed  and praying for a porta potty. Last ight I was laying on the couch watcihng ESPN...what the heck happened?

Which Ipod do you have? I have H2O audio for the 2nd Gen ipod shuffle. I like it but I wouldn't want to put a more expensive ipod than that in kind of a case in the water. One of the pluses of having an apple ipod is it works seamlessly with itunes and music you purchase from itunes if you go with another brand like swimp3 you may have to convert AAC files to MP3 to get them on that device.

I have the swimp3 and like it quite a bit. I like not having something in my ears while I swim. Sound is more then fine... makes swims go by A LOT faster. I would personally be worried dunking my ipod (I have an older nano) in the pool even with a waterproof case. If you look around you can get one of the older swimp3s (holds about 2 hours of music) for around $100 now that they have one with more storage. Anyway I don't regret spending that money.

I got the Trio Surf 2gb mp3 player for Xmas.  For around $50, it works very well.

So, today was my first day of logging my food in a while and now I remember why this is a pain.  I did fine for breakfast and snack, but then I went over to my sister's house to watch the Rose Bowl game and had some Chicken Tortilla Casserole.  It is quite tasty and I didn't overeat, but I also know that it isn't Zone OR Paleo and I have no idea how many calories it was.  I also brought a very tasty bean soup that I could laboriously figure out the data on.  What a nuisance.

So, how did everyone else do food-wise on this first day of the new year???

What a great idea - the food year starting on Monday.  There is more eating out in my future today and tomorrow and that's just tough to figure out.

Good deal. I'll try and behave regardless, but I think Monday I'm cracking the whip big time.

I'm reading that book about race weight and it's really got me thinking about my overall nutrition... It's not so great and the fact that I restrict calories to a degree I need to make sure what I do eat is more healthy if I'm going to have the energy for all of this.

Do you guys have some creative ways to eat vegetables other then salads and steaming them? I'm not a big fan. I'm better then I used to be but it's always an effort to get enough in.
