Expert 1010 Greer, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread So after today's workout, I am cautiously optimistic about my leg. I did the bike portion (2 hrs), then decided to try to run again. This time, I wore my calf compression sleeves - and my new shoes (which I love) and not only felt good, but felt great. I felt great until I realized I didn't pop any nutrition before I went out and died, but my calf felt amazing. If I had planned better for my nutrition, I definitely could have gone the distance in my plan (55 minutes). Also, I didn't check the temp when I went out, but went I got home at 7:25, it was 95. All may not be lost after all. |

Expert 1146 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Yup, IM Speedsuit. This fat boy can't even float. I am at 2:30 p/100 on a good day! I will be in that darn river 2 frigging hours! The current can outpace me! So yes, I will use everything to my advantage. |

Extreme Veteran 557 Woodland Hills, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I decided against a speedsuit since this would be the one and only use I got out of it. I've never used one, but I heard they don't really help (and aren't supposed to help) with flotation or body position, they are only for hydrodynamics. |

From what I've read, it would likely only save me two to three minutes max, if anything at all, and since I'm NOWHERE near qualifying for Kona or getting anywhere near a podium it's not worth it. Plus, the oil slicks on the Ohio river should help keep you sitting right on top of the water |

Expert 1010 Greer, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I'm using one because I got one last year. I'm not sure how many other WTC events I am going to do. We have some really good local one's through Setup Events down here and I will probably just stick with those. The only one I might do is Augusta 70.3, which was wetsuit legal last year and because the current is so strong, I can easily handle a 1.2 mile swim without one. I guess I think of things a little differently too. I am not as concerned about how much time it saves me, but (especially in the longer races), instead how much less taxing it is on my body. I can use less effort and get the same results (which ultimately means faster times). |

Elite 3683 Whispering Pines, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I'll be using the DeSoto Liftfoil Speedsuit I bought last year. Not a fast swimmer, so any advantage (even mental) will be used, even if it doesn't provide much benefit. Also, DeSoto replaced it after it came apart around the inseam, so it's brand new. Can't believe how fast time's flying... |

Elite 3658 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I picked up a used Xterra speedsuit off ebay for $50. I figured for that money it's probably worth it, and I can use it for USAT events for at least one more year. I've only used it twice, but it sure feels like it has some buoyancy. It's not nearly as much as a wetsuit, but I swear I can feel a little bit right after I get in the water. |

Is there a place to rent a speedsuit? That seems to be a bit more economical for me. Time is flying pretty fast. Did an 18 mile run this morning in 2:50, so I am feeling pretty fatigued right now, but good. I cant believe its almost here |

Expert 1164 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I propose that we all start our voodoo now for cooler weather come race day. Maybe our collective powers will be able to drive back the sun and bring in some cloud coverage by the time the main event comes around. Whos with me?? I'll be performing a rain dance in Atlanta if anyone cares to join. Seriously though, I hope we get a reprise from the heat like IMKY 2009 was blessed with. I cant imagine racing in a 103 deg heat index. |

Member 56 Little Rock, AR | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Speaking of suits, what's the official rule on wetsuits? I've heard we can wear them as long as we understand we're not eligible for age group awards, and I've heard that we'll be disqualified if we wear them. Under 84 degrees, of course. |

I am pretty sure they are not allowed. I believe the rule you are referring to are for USAT events but I think Ironman has their own rules. Chances are water will be warm enough (and then some) for them to not allow wetsuits at all. |

It was 10 days before for IMFL in 2009. The packets will be on site and you will get those when you register. |

Regular 118 Marietta, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Massive bummer!! It is official, the left knee is not happy and is demanding some time off. This weekends training is shot, I'm going to try some light running on Monday, but the long ride tomorrow is out. That will leave just one long ride before the race to make sure that nutrition is nailed down and ready. |
