deehtz - 2009-12-18 10:29 AM QUESTION:   Can ANY type of bike go on a trainer?

I want to do a tri in February.  The bike portion is indoors on a trainer.  They say that they provide the trainer and set up each bike & rider by weight.  My bike is just an old regular old-fashioned bike.  In fact it is a youth bike.  Will there be any problem putting it on a trainer?

I think so.  Trainers hook onto the rear skewer and the flywheel can be adjusted until it hits the tire.  There may be an issue if your tire has a much smaller diameter.  It would probably be a good idea to contact the RD to make sure.

Welcom home Bill. Your rant is very similar to the ones I have. Deep breath. Don't let the idiots get you down!
I love the pictures, especially the bear family picture.

Cool news.  I just got picked in the lottery for the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon to be held in May.  I just need to take a look at funds now to see if I can afford it.

Neal, Escape from Alcatraz????? You can't afford NOT to do it!!!! Coolest non IM race ever! Lots of time to find the least expensive way to get out there. Don't assume you have to fly into San Fran.  When I lived in AZ and had to get SF, I used to fly into Oakland for a lot less $$$.  San Jose might also be an option, but you'd have to add in rental car expenses. I also bet you can find inexpensive lodging, or at least a roomie to share costs, via BT.  Lots of time to figure it out.  Congrats!!!

Well it didn't take me long to make up my mind.  I am definitely doing it next may.  My sister and her family live near palo alto so the lodging aspect is definitely taken care.  Just have to pay for the plane ticket, race fee and bike transport.  I'll just pretend to not know how much I've spent for races next year (IMWI, IM Kansas 70.3 etc. etc.) Still might have to look up Jules while I'm out there.

Snowed in and just got power badk on. It went out at about 6:00 last night. It will go again today when the temp gets below freezing and the ice forms again. We got 12 inches and no one plows our roads so there will be no escape until Monday.

Off to help cut trees and branches that fell. Fun and games. I did have a nice snow ball fight and I need to make a snow angel before all this goes away. Have fun Ghoulies.

wgraves7582 - 2009-12-19 10:51 AM Quiet bunch lately - everyone out Christmas Shopping lately?

You guys have a great weekend.  Snuck an easy 1.5 mile run in earlier and might get on the bike later.

Hi Bill.  I've been under the weather with cold.  Tried to get a swim in this morning but cut it short, came home, and dove back under the covers.  Now to get out and pick up a few last minute things before we get snowed in for a day or two.

If the fever breaks, I will be snow shoeing tomorrow. Flurries just starting.  Hope we get lots!

How is your hip feeling?

I attempted my first run since dec 1 today.  Just 1.75 miles of run/walking combo but my hip was pain free so that was good sign!
