Race tires?  IMO, Vittoria evo corsa cx 320tpi

I got these today! Very excited.

:hifive:

You'll like them.  They are fast tires, no doubt.
Expensive $$

The wife had our 3 child last night.  It would be a better write up than most my race reports.

Anyways both are doing great and should be home tomorrow.

Mark congratulations.  What a great time in your life.  I raised two girls who are both successful and I wouldn't trade my relationship with them for all the triathlons in the world.  It brings back memories seeing this picture!

Way to go Mark. Both your newborn and your wife look great! That's awesome!!

about the metro bham part: I'm just outside of Birmingham on I20, in St. Clair County. ~2mi West and I'd be in Jefferson Co.

Drive time for me from home to work is 17mi @ 15-20mins.

And training:
So, I have my PE (Professional Engineering) exam Fri. After that, it's time to get back to training.

Awesome Mark!

BTW, that baby looks mighty ticked off.  Did you just introduce yourself?  Wink

-------

Just to make this tri related - set a new mark for myself to beat.  Good workout - swim 10x100 with 10 seconds rest in between.  Record final time.  Mine - 15:10 (after you remove the 90 seconds rest in here that comes to a 1:22/100 average).  Not too shabby.  And holy crap that set sucks.

Seconded - kick a$$, man.

There are some good rides going off on the weekends once you're back to normal.

Guys, I'm freakin out a little! Listen to this crap. I bought a HED 3 in August. It has maybe 350 miles on in. A few training rides, and oly, and HIM. This week I bought the new Vittoria evo tires and put them on. Went out for a 30 mile ride on the new tires on Tuesday and noticed a bump a low speeds, and pretty bad vibration at high speeds. I was riding with a buddy who works ar Performance Bike. I didn't buy the wheel their, but the store is closer to my house than the place i bought the wheel, so i took it in to let their mechanic look at it. Went to pick it up today, the guy tells me the wheel is out of round. He put it on the rack, and spins the wheel and you can see that the wheel has a flat spot in it. SUCKS!!
I call the LBS where I bought the wheel, and they sort of acted like they didn't give a . Told me to bring it in tomorrow, but they said the problem was probably not the wheel, but that I screwed up the tire when I put it on. BS! I can see the problem with the wheel. It obvious? I'm gonna call HED today, and take the wheel in tomorrow, but hell, my A race is in 2 weeks! Yell

Its normal.  I've had two HED 3 wheels.  My first had some serious hop in it, like yours.

Very few HED 3s come out of the molds very true.  Most have a small amount of roll out or hop.

Do this when you get home.  Take the tire off the wheel and somewhere on the aluminum surface will be a set of numbers like .16/.22 or something.  This tells your the amount of hop and run out the wheel has.

Yep. Just talked to Vince at HED. He told me the same thing. Said to send it in, and they would either true it up as best they could, or send me a new one. Whew! Very relieved. This thing was vibrating like crazy. Rattle your teeth at 20 MPH.

Todd,
Glad you got that worked out.   The additional stresses with your first IM can really mess with your focus! Sounds like you can work it out well ahead of the race.

On a side note.  I will be coming in on Wednesday night in Wilmington.  My wife is flying in on Thursday and kids and grandkid coming in on Friday morning.  You plan on doing any light training on Thursday.  I going to go down and swim for sure Thursday morning.  Let me know your plans.  I still have your cell phone from Augusta.  I will call you.  I think I saw where you are there early in the week.

I get in Wednesday afternoon. Definitely up for a swim on Thursday. Maybe an easy spin around Wrightsville Beach. I lived there for a couple of years while in college. There is a park in the middle of wrightsville island, the path around it is about 3 miles. There used to be some amazing eye candy jogging around that loop when I was a youger dude. We called it the meat market conveyor belt!
I'm staying at the blockaade runner at the beach. Where are you, Hilton?

Good luck guys!  I really want to hear some reports after.  If I every do a full iron (doubtful) it will likely be B2B.

On my end I have been trying to get back to running after my calf fell apart.  It is doing pretty good.  In the meantime I have been hitting the pool hard.  Not in volume, but in speed.  Couple of my latest sets:

10x100 with :10 seconds rest.  Current watermark: 15:09 (90 seconds rest in there).
5x200 on 3:00.  Oof.  This one suuuccks.

Trying to get faster on small yardage now and then extend to longer in the spring.  Now is mostly running (30mpw once I am fully back) and Jorge's cycling plan.

Todd staying at the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Eastwood Road.  I will call you on my drive down on Wednesday and we can meet.  I took your advice and ordered a Disc Cover for my Reyonold's wheel.   This has been an expensive two weeks.  I also bought a new road bike - Fugi SST 1.0.  http://reviews.roadbikereview.com/interbike/2010-fuji-bicycles-sst-10/   I pick it up today.  The wife and I are driving up to Atlanta this afternoon to see my daughter race a half marathon. I am going to bring the road bike and do a ride with it on Sunday before we leave to driver home.  I took off today and slept in - no 3AM bike ride this morning!  I doing a 1.5 hour ride, 3000 yard swim, and a 6 mile run for training today at sun up (7:30).  It is my last 3 plus hour day before the event.  Look foward to meeting up.

I didn't think I would ever attempt one.  You never know.  I think B2B is a great first one for several reasons - swim advantage with the tide, flat road course, flat run course, and good temps.  It also has a great reputation.  I know Todd is familar with Set up events.  I did several when we lived in Charlotte, NC before moving down here to Florida.

Yeah - you never know.  My first olympic was an epic sufferfest and I really don't want to go through that again (120 degrees on the road, 75% of the 10k times over an hour.  I walked a good bit, etc.).  I am evaluating whether I like longer races at this point.

The one thing I can confidently say about an IM is that I would rock the swim.  The other two, not so much.
